  • A walk around of my 89' Honda NX250 and the upgrades I have done to it.
    I forgot to mention in the video but I have also replaced the turn signals and lic plate light with LEDs and electronic flasher relay. I also added some extra tail lights for added visibility at night.

      +Albert Tran Thanks I really appreciate the complement. I have a couple more NX riding vids I really need to finish and get up. Unfortunately I had to sell it back in Oct for money. Just have the CB500x now.

    I love the improvements you have done to it!! Mine is 100% original still, but I want to upgrade some stuff and you just gave me a lot of great ideas. (mine = ´93 but first registration was Sep ´96)

    My bike is '89 and I just use standard rear shock, but compressed the spring, so I could hook up a regular muffler clamp above the spring around the shock to get it more firm. Rides nicely now and has not bottomed once since that and I ride pretty rough terrain occasionally. I'm 200 lbs myself and bike has now done about 50k miles.

      +suomenpresidentti Glad that has worked for you. I still would bottom out on rough terrain with the SV650 shock. I just need a more dirt oriented bike in the future.

    I finally got my running enough to test ride. Wow didn't believe a little 250 could be so fast!

      Congratulations man! Good to hear. Yes they are a very fun and quick bike. Wish Honda continued making and updating them here in the states. Enjoy!

    great video I used to have two NX 250 I loved them both. I rode them both for many years. I did not do to much single track riding thou. When you went done you could destroy hundreds of dollars of impossible to get plastics.
    Honda should have kept importing a great motorcycle.

    • @ChaoticDetour
      @ChaoticDetour  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree, they are a great bike! Most of the mounting tabs for the plastics were already broke on mine when I bought it. Lots of zip ties holding them on. I did drop it on the radiator once. I patched the plastic by epoxying a metal plate, shaped to fit on the inside. Added benefit of hidden armor. Thanks for watching.

    I just ended up buying an 88 and it's the best running bike I have ever had

      Yes, they are great bikes. Wish I didn’t have to sell mine a few years back. Enjoy it.

      @@ChaoticDetour So my starter switch died on mine and I am not sure how to go about fixing it. The joints were to corroded to hold solder so I ended up resoldering the ignition, starter, HL1 and HL2 wires from the switch itself. I am planning on selling it but I can't get it running from the starter switch problem and I am worried that the switch itself shorted out something else

    • @ChaoticDetour
      @ChaoticDetour  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Congrats on the bike, they are great and finding one with that low of miles is very nice as well. I do have a few more vids I have to edit and post of the NX, but unfortunately I had to sell it. To many moves in a short period of time forced me to leave some things behind. Wish I still had the bike however. Thanks for watching.

    Thanks for all the great info! The bike looks great, I am looking to get a project NX250 soon, that just needs rewired battery and some other stuff and this video was a little reassuring and very helpful to me.
    I'm sorry to hear about you having to sell your bike too, I hope all is well and good luck with with finding another bike in the future. Cheers.

      +Taen Glad you the video helped. It was a great bike and I do plan on buying another in the future, although I have a different direction in mind for it. Things are improving on my end. It will be a great summer. Hope yours is too. Good luck with the project.

    Little confused on the under engine crash bars. Did you say bought off a forum? My skid plate is missing on my 89 NX 250.

    • @ChaoticDetour
      @ChaoticDetour  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes the skid was one of the prototypes from a guy in Germany. I know he began making them for sale but I don't know how many he made or if he is even still selling them. The bike doesn't come from the factory with a skid, just a plastic cover that looks like a skid plate.

    Hello, I am thinking about switching my turn signals to LED's. Which electronic flasher relay did you use and where did you purchase it?? Thanks!
    Nick

    • @ChaoticDetour
      @ChaoticDetour  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry but I do not remember what relay I had. This was several years ago. I had bought the relay at a locally owned motorcycle shop, it was simply what they recommended. I do recommend LED lights for brightness and longevity.

    I'm not sure about the engine. Mine (I think it's Canadian version/market 1990) blew up at 26k miles. There are no ball bearings at camshafts and no bronze bushing at upper connection rod bearing. So plain steel on steel bearing melted down and rod was disconnected from the piston.

    • @ChaoticDetour
      @ChaoticDetour  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry to hear about your troubles, that would suck. I don't think that is the norm however. I bought my bike with around 27k miles on it and sold it with 38k and it was running great. I have read about owners getting over 60k on the factory motor without a rebuild.

    • @__justin__
      @__justin__ 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Parts on the Internet looks the same. I would say all NX250 and AX-1 models are manufactured that way. I bought my bike new back in 1990. Very high RPM should be avoided.

    you think nx250 engine will fit in an xr250r frame?because thats one nice bike nx or not,dont like the ktm orange white and red/honda colours!

    • @ChaoticDetour
      @ChaoticDetour  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The XR250 has a perimeter frame where the NX250 uses the engine as a stressed member, so it won't fit. At least not easy. They are great bikes, the orange has nothing to do with KTM and more to do with being seen by idiot drivers.

    I notice that on your bike and most of these I see that the canister that mine has on the left side of the engine has been removed . do you know if that means it's not needed ?

    • @ChaoticDetour
      @ChaoticDetour  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +bayoubiker71 When I bought the bike it did not have the canister. However I have seen it in pictures. I think it is for emissions (charcoal canister), but honestly I do know what it does.

    What tires do you have on this bad boy in the video? I am looking for similar

    • @ChaoticDetour
      @ChaoticDetour  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was running the factory tires, Bridgestone TW39 front and TW40 rear. Not the best tires, but there were not many other options out there.
