Daniel Corchado has kept The Chasm going for WELL over 20 years now! MUCH respect to these great Mexican Death Metal WARRIORS! Always among the best, most unique and innovative bands in the scene!!
The Spell of Retribution was, in my view, The Chasm's first album that was not marred at all by production issues. The song-writing and execution on this particular song is outstanding - melodic, almost soulful (if one can use such a word to describe death metal) riffs, perfect transitions, and constantly varied drumming.
I would say The Chasm is the most respected Mexican band in USA in this Metal style. And since they live in Chicago, I might say they are one of the best Mexican-American bands ever. Fives stars
@Alejandro9100 I definately think Cenotaphs two first albums and Mortuary's debut is better though, but that doesn't diminish the worth of this band, one of the essentials.
@TheTwilightIsMyRobe Not in the least... Aside from that both are Metal, you need to listen to the rest of the album if you think they sound anything alike... The riff structure is vastly different, and the songwriting is absolutely monumentally superior on this album than ANY Opeth record....

They are false as hell! They used to talk shit about the real inventors of extreme metal slayer, Kreator, Morbid Angel. Besides they are not in Mexico and one of them told me to be American so you dont know what are you talking about.

I saw this tour in Atlanta back in 05 or 06. They were fucking amazing live. Mindblowingly epic riffs.
One of the best death metal bands ever. You can disagree but you'd be wrong. Their album 'Deathcult for eternity' is a stone cold classic.
