Sad to see wolvo like this now ya can blame the government for this . 20-25 years ago this place used to bouncing you had the press, rothwells, kipps, euro bar, walk about look at it now it’s dead its way to exspensive and the music is awful . RIP Wolvo at least we have the memories of when it was the place to be.
Hi Rob - you are so right!! I am 50 this year and remember those places well!! I was always in Rothwells, Atlantis and the Canal Bar in my younger years, I remember it being really busy back then too. I still occasionally go out to Slug and Lettuce and it's a great night out but what happened eh? God Bless You my friend!😀

Thing is, The clientele was totally different 25 years ago you could have a good time. That stopped happening 10 years ago when it becomes a knife city and drugs den. Pills was around in the late 80s early 90s. Which made the scene a while lot better. Coke is not the same. It's a shit hole. And alcohol only brings out the worst in today's people
7:10 The Giffard Arms used to be a really rough place in the 1970s. Stabbings on a regular basis. It was the regular pub for the Wolverhampton chapter of the Hells Angels. If you want to round off your evening with an Indian meal try the Dilshad in Berry Street (behind the Grand Theatre in Lichfield Street.) Tucked away in a little side street but the best Indian restaurant in Wolverhampton and highly recommended.
It's changed a hell of a lot, i was there in 1992 when i was 16, the rave scene was exploding I and partied all through the '90s in Wolverhampton, started off at Quest (Palomas) up until late 1993 then started going Light Bar at Chubb Building then into Picasso's best year -1994, we had Ceasars Bar, Theatre Bar, Kipps, Branigans, Chablis (Mander Centre downstairs), EuroBar, The Press, Silver Web, The Dorchester later The Beach, Fox's, Sir Tatton Sykes, Atlantis and Hero's Bar, Slam Bar on Darlington Street, O' Neils, Yam Yams, The Varsity, Kings (now The Grain Store) Cheeky Monkey and Blast Off, there was just so much choice and I'm glad I was there during the best years, there's nothing like it now in Wolverhampton.
used to be one of the go to areas back in the 1990s, even brummies were coming to wolves for a good night out, glad my clubbing days were the early to mid 90's as the place looks a shadow of its old self to be honest
The end of the 90s to the 00s was wolves heyday. Young and mid age would both be heading out touring the bars. It was packed. Music was vibrant. Plenty of money around. It's gone now and won't come back. Mid age and young have now got too old and got family's. The young of today have no money and are worried about the knives. So everything has closed. We live now in a world that is getting older and there are less youngsters. Everywhere.
At around 9 minutes and seeing John Hartley aka "Elvis" walking past the Slug And Lettuce brings back memories of him as i always saw in the pubs here in Wolverhampton. Since this footage was filmed,he sadly passed away. R.I.P🙏
@@vloggingnomaduk That's correct. He passed away on the night of the Christmas light switch on outside the Hogs Head. Every town and city has it's characters. "Elvis" was definitely our character and in the years that i saw him around town,he was always polite and respectful..... He was the only "Elvis" who i knew who always walked around like John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever haha!! I recently discovered that he was also a contestant on Britain's Got Talent.
Ive seen enuff this is depressing lol im from Birmingham i remember back in the 90s new year used to be packed & last year & the year before town was lole a gost town new year.
25 years ago we used to get 70,000 people come to Wolvo over the weekend unfortunately you can see its a dying(some say already dead)town. But we always come back as a town that is in our nature. Hopefully things will pick up again. But it is a friendly night out. Wolves ay we.
I agree with everyone on here who had commented!! Such a shame, Wolvo was a thriving night spot at one point!! Glad I was young between 1993 - 2000 or just beyond then!! Garage was the in music too, wished it could go back to how it was - I also loved 2009 onwards as you had INDI bar and Revolution but that has been closed for years now! If you can go to Slug and Lettuce, it's a fab night out and sweet people!! 😀😇
Im 46 now i remember Wolverhampton buzzing canal club,Atlantas night club and there would be people fighting they have manchester accents lol them were the days 😂 they need to bring Wolverhampton back alive again not shut bars ,clubs where my children and next generation going to be socialising anyways great video keep it up...😊
I used to be resident DJ at the French Duck, 70's n 80's...Mary's Moustache and the like, sometime's 3 place's in one night!! so busy there were not enough disco's to go around. Happy days, all gone now though :( , very sad to hear Elvis @ 9min mark passed away recently, he was a gentle soul.
Im 68 I live in this city in my youth the nightlife was great night clubs and bars, never any trouble the days of disco, not drugs and alcohol, we went for the love of music, whatever happened to our town, I wouldn't venture out now for a king's ransom, probably the same in many towns and cities. Who's to blame for the decay I rarely venture into the city centre, their aren't any decent shops to go into anymore.
i ued used to go clubbing in the 90s kipps cheeky monkey caesars picassos what a shame to see iit now like a drave yard at least we have memorys of good times
Ghost town, shame really was brill back in the 90s with chambers, Press, atlantis, pipers, o Neil's, rothwells, civic (cheeky monkey and blast off), yates..not the overpriced slug and lettuce you get now!
Instead of blaming the current situation on government and council, maybe many of our attitudes need to change to make a better, positive, happier place to be, not that difficult task🤷🏿♂️😳🙃😆
Ever since they turned Wolvo into a city the bloody council have wrecked it,I'm affraid to say it as I'm from Wolvo, and proud of where i come from but it's a shit hole now.
Wolverhampton has gone proper dead clubbing was way better in the 2010s i would have liked to have been clubbing in the 90s and 2000s but i was to young my clubbing days are over if anyone wants to experience clubbing go to Birmingham broad street or somewhere else at least elvis is trying to light the place up 😂😂😂😂😂
The city is really picking up in the day now lots more shops opening there's 30 new Turkish barbers 25 new nail bars 40 tanning shops every thing a narcissist needs 😂.

Agreed!
It was actually top night in the 90's (oops, showing my age).
But it's a serious shame what it's become now. 😢

It looks absolutely dead. So sad to see. It was absolutely buzzing late 90s early 00s.

Can't believe how quiet it is..Used to packed when i was doing the pub/club rounds in early 2000's..moved away 10 years ago..I miss the place..😄
My hometown. Grew up there 25 years ago. It has nothing left. How depressing. Night life used to be amazing. A sorry state it’s in.

Sounds like an awesome night out, happy days
Thanks for contributing too 👍

used to be one of the go to areas back in the 1990s, even brummies were coming to wolves for a good night out, glad my clubbing days were the early to mid 90's as the place looks a shadow of its old self to be honest
Old still good pub

I think we live our lives at our age. Rarely see young driving, all middle or old age. Where have the young gone.
The ‘elvis’ at the 9 minute mark, passed away last week. He had a heart attack whilst working on the ring road. Sad he must of been mid 70’s
Oh no, thanks for the update.

Thanks David. I was lucky to get him on camera in this walk. Think he passed away just after this, RIP John.

@@davidcohen6861 thanks for adding the extra information, he was definitely the star in this Wolverhampton vlog.
This brings back memories to when I would go out clubbing.
Now I’m im 36 years old and moved on in nightlife.
Hey, I am from Wolvo!! You are still YOUNG mate, keep clubbing!! I occasionally do and I am 50 this year!! Bless You.🙏😀

Fantastic Places to go great memories great music.
A lot of great pubs and bars have closed. ThePress Kiphs to name 2 great old places long gone..
GOT TO GO TO BLACKPOOL A PINT £1 80 😢😮😅😊

The Planet Nightclub & Giffard are the only decent places
Is this a joke? in the mid to late 90"s there were 10,000+ people in town every Friday and Saturday night it was absolutely heaving.
i ued used to go clubbing in the 90s kipps cheeky monkey caesars picassos what a shame to see iit now like a drave yard at least we have memorys of good times
Everyone on the dole in Wolves, can't afford to go out.
there's not many people
There were few out, but not as busy as some the bigger cities
Ghost town, shame really was brill back in the 90s with chambers, Press, atlantis, pipers, o Neil's, rothwells, civic (cheeky monkey and blast off), yates..not the overpriced slug and lettuce you get now!
It's all fast food joints now .Plus with the rampant decay of society people are scared to go into town 😢
Instead of blaming the current situation on government and council, maybe many of our attitudes need to change to make a better, positive, happier place to be, not that difficult task🤷🏿♂️😳🙃😆
Wow looks terrible. Hardly anyone around they must all go to Birmingham for a night out.
Dive full slang tick degrnerates.
Ever since they turned Wolvo into a city the bloody council have wrecked it,I'm affraid to say it as I'm from Wolvo, and proud of where i come from but it's a shit hole now.
Look how many shops have closed.

Very depressing used to be good now no people.
Looks dead compared to the 90's when me and the lads would go to clubs and pubs.. Surprised the bank still open.
We were in our 20's and 30's, still lots our age all around.
If Wolves was dead we would go on the "Free" train to Brum.
Why bother it's now a ghost town...I've seen more actively in grave yard
yup wolves is dead has been for years
Yes it’s not as busy as similar cities.
Boaring
The city is really picking up in the day now lots more shops opening there's 30 new Turkish barbers 25 new nail bars 40 tanning shops every thing a narcissist needs 😂.
Don’t blame Wolvo - this has happened around the country… dead zones everywhere
GOT TO GO TO BLACKPOOL A PINT £1 80 😢😮😅😊
Happy days
