Watching this in 2021 hits hard. Just the feel of getting together with some friends in a room and playing music together for a while is something I desperately miss, and it comes across beautifully here. I know this is thought-out and practiced, but the spirit is there.
When people cover this song it always sounds the same but love the funky twist on it so refreshing. One thing I just love about you guys your music is fun and the funk is never over done but light and just love the personality of your music.
I always felt the original felt a little dark and depressing, like his darling was leaving and he was begging her to stand by him. This version is so much lighter, like he's now telling his darling that together they will conquer it all... almost like a proposal. Knocked it out of the park again fellas.
I think there was a Spiritual and protest subtext to this song when written. I think it is less of a romantic song, and more a call for solidarity / prayer for strength. According to Wikipedia it was inspired by a spiritual called Stand By Me Father, hence the spiritual aspect.
I am continually amazed by the perfect sound mixing, quality arrangements, and amazing talent that you guys bring week in and week out! Plus everything is made that much better by how much Jack and Ryan always get into the music. You keep it fresh and enjoyable and I cannot wait for each Monday to arrive, something I never thought I would say in my life. Keep up the good work!
I just watched the Charles Jones cover of "I Feel Good" by James Brown on this channel and I'm so happy it only took them a year to set this man up with a PROPER expensive microphone to match his million dollar voice. I've been watching all of his covers on Scary Pockets and this man is a phenomenal soul singer that has a great time on the mic with the biggest rhythm & blues smile I've ever seen.
