In 1961, I was a freshman in high school when this classic hit was released by and written by Ben E. King. In 1990, I was one of two drug counselors working in a jail-based drug treatment program, and this song was chosen by the ACT Program members for an anniversary performance. I watched them very closely as a group of guys rehearsed this song, and how the whole cell block reacted to it. Those 20 men of different races traveled over some rough terrain to get that moment in time. This song seem to be a gateway to planned life without crime & drugs. The background in this video reminds me of what it must feel like to be stuck in the dessert feeling all alone while crying out these lyrics from deep within oneself. This song is very moving if you allow it to move through you uninterrupted. Each person in seemed to do just that with their eyes closed. Since1961, I have heard many versions of this song. But to see and to hear it "shared" like this, never! Thank all of you in this "group" for sharing.

In 1990, I was one of two drug counselors working in a jail-based drug treatment program, and this song was chosen by the ACT Program members for an anniversary performance. I watched them very closely as a group of guys rehearsed this song, and how the whole cell block reacted to it. Those 20 men of different races traveled over some rough terrain to get that moment in time. This song seem to be a gateway to planned life without crime & drugs. The background in this video reminds me of what it must feel like to be stuck in the dessert feeling all alone while crying out these lyrics from deep within oneself. This song is very moving if you allow it to move through you uninterrupted. Each person in seemed to do just that with their eyes closed. Since1961, I have heard many versions of this song. But to see and to hear it "shared" like this, never! Thank all of you in this "group" for sharing.
