People can hate all day, but the Gracie family opened the eyes of the entire world. Yes BJJ comes from Judo. Yes there is wrestling in BJJ. But no one put it all together like the Gracie family for fighting and self defense. They changed the wide world of martial arts, for the better. And it’s still evolving. Train hard
Stahlvanten couldn't be more ignorant. Pure wrestling addresses no submissions and leaves one exposed to strikes in the streets. GJJ is the best, proven self-defense.
@@c6h11no7 Youre ignorant if you dont think the American wrestling based Jits style is the most entertaining and most well working for MMA and CJJ. Stop worshipping Helio and just do actual MMA. GJJ is a waste of time and money.
@@Stahlvanten I misread your intention. I agree that wrestling is very important. I disagree with “this is shit compared to MMA/Combat Sambo”. @@addisonporter1316 I'm not aware of any BJJ classes that teach for true SD. They tend to lean towards sport matches and MMA. If you know of a BJJ class that teaches gun/knife defence, I'd love to check it out. Most don't even teach basics of how to get out of a bearhug or headlock. Again, I'm more than happy to have a look at the ones that do, if you have links, please.
Amazing that all cops in the U.S. aren't drilled in basic moves like this over and over. Also amazing how simplistic these moves are. I'm not saying GJJ is the ONLY system with these moves (Krav Maga also has some good, hardcore basics) but can you imagine how effective cops would be if they had a good base (in their Academy) and then continued to train on moves like this throughout their careers? Cops would actually be pretty effective fighters / protectors.
The early Gracie self defense is almost entirely classic Jujutsu and Judo self defense, from the Goshin Jutsu curriculum in Judo's case. Its been around a long time.
I was doing mixed martial arts before it was coined MMA starting in the mid 80s and using it in the 90s getting into street fights. Every tough kid back then understood being on your feet and knowing when turn it to a wrestling scrap. It's nothing new.
Yes, but slightly different - some split off unto gi and no gi (skin tight or shirtless), and influenced by MMA and wrestling. You will definately still find all these moves being taught on the whole, but what we see here is the original, and in my opinion, the best
Até hoje essas técnicas revolucionam a arte marcial falem o que for mas a família gracie merece todo o respeito e isso de uma pessoa que é fã e foi aluno do mestre Marco ruas
Because it came from judo back from the old man's Carlos and Helio's days when they were students of Mitsuyo Maeda, a Japanese judoka back in the 1917.
Simple logical effective with least amount of physical force. I love Jiujitsu as it allows to win fights without slug fest and unnecessary energy expenditure. The submissions once learned correctly and become natural you on my need 20 plus moves to master any situation. Few submissions and few escapes from mount is all it takes most times against untrained aggressive person.
wow a young Royce Gracie. Rorion Gracie does a great explaining things in detail. The only thing is I don't think some of the techniques would work in today's modern world.
Strike defense = stupid. You can't beat a sucker punch like this. Tackle defense = stupid. You have to sprawl, no time to block and knee. Headlock defense = stupid. When headlocked the attacker will be ragdolling you so no time to grab far arm. Let's hope the Gracie SD stuff got better over time.
That exact strike defense is taught in boxing, and even boxers get knocked out by the punch they don't see coming. The takedown defense would work if the attacker wasn't good at wrestling and shot from too far out. This whole series, and most self defense just assumes the attacker is stronger and untrained, which most times would be true.
I still have to see what I have. This one says volume 3 Strikes, Headlocks and Weapon Gun (I did not put Weapon Gun on TH-cam Title). Tonight I uploaded Volume 3 (???) Finishing Holds Armlocks Chokes And volume 2 How to Pass the Guard/How to Escape From Headlock
True, maybe this guy in black should create a martial arts tournament and get the guy ib red to take part vs other martial arts, just so we can see how much their techniques don't work.
I feel prepared for the violent streets of the 90s!
It’s still ongoing today
I grew up in the 90's, and the thugs were tough and brutal. If you reported to the cops, they would tell you to grow a back bone.

Nothing to hate here, it's pure awesomeness.
Straight up #facts Ossss
The real jiu-jitsu. The jiu-jitsu everyone wants/needs but few schools will provide.
This is actual shit compared to MMA/Combat Sambo.
If doing Jitsu; do the modern American wrestling no gi focused style

que excelente video tutorial, admiración y aprecio para quien lo subió , muchas gracias
Hey I have these vhs video tapes. Good old days and usefull and brutal.👍🏻👍🏻
Vale Tudo was one life form of it❤
Luv the 90s.
Gracie took the concepts of Judo and Ju Jitsu and stripped it down to a fast to learn practical system.
These were the first BJJ videos, and I bought them. They were pricey back then but too cool to pass up.
Do you still have them?
I don't even know what the price was back then but if this isn't value for money - what is?
A lot of this stuff just doesn't get taught in BJJ classes anymore.

All police should be required to learn BJJ up to a purple belt level imo.
Krav pussy has a lot of mistakes by master ken

The standup portion is Judo here!
Behold: early footage of the family that forever removed the mystical nonsense from the striking arts. You need both striking and grappling!

@@kevinwisdom6283 Looking forward to that.
Just curious, are these types of self-defense techniques taught in BJJ in present day?
Depends on the school. Ones calling themselves Gracie Jiu Jitsu have a better shot, but the more sportive schools generally don't.

@@smesh141 True 😅
All the BJJ guys of today use skin tight outfits - real men do BJJ in T shirt, jeans and a moustache.

Because it came from judo back from the old man's Carlos and Helio's days when they were students of Mitsuyo Maeda, a Japanese judoka back in the 1917.
I feel modern BJJ has had some influence from wrestling.
The 1980's Porn-Star-mustache-Rorion is the best version of Rorion.

All Brazilians carry a gun at all times starting at age 5. Watch the Active Self Protection channel and see how many videos are from Brazil. 😆

This is literally the only gun defence that would actually work
выбирали соперников делали правила все под себя чтобы побеждать
They used a real gun instead of a prop
Little known fact: Rorion and Rickson are half black.
Gracie defense works. Ask the people i defeated.

But ground fighting is useless again more than one opponent.
Don't get into fights where there's multiple opponents?

@ScorpionSuerte like a tournament that has lots of different styles and little rules? Naw.. that would never take off.

all bjj schools should be teaching this now... not what they have now which is bad self defence
