Bill Oddie on depression, Manchester Utd, David Attenborough, and leaving the BBC

  • Wildlife presenter Bill Oddie chats to us in his London home with themes ranging from the BBC, sport and politics, to his retired life and future plans.
Bill illustrates why he doesn't watch Springwatch any more -- or indeed much TV at all -- after reflecting on some of his greatest career memories.
He outlines his hate for ties, his desire for people to engage more with the environment, and his ideas for future population control.
He highlights his enthusiasm for the younger generation, and explains why only socialising with people his age would be "dreadful".
Of course, we chat a little about politics too - you can see our sister project Chat Politics here: / chatpolitics . Bill calls the current government "seriously dangerous" and expects the natural world to suffer further after the coalition's "nonsense" badger cull.
'Chat Life' is a new TH-cam channel, in which we'll be interviewing personalities - actors, comedians, writers, broadcasters and more! Subscribe to us to be notified of future uploads, and take a look at our website: www.chatlife.tv

When I was a kid my sister and I would pull all sorts of tricks to get to stay up in order to watch the Goodies, so Imagine my disgust to hear this pig dog spouting leftist tripe and bad mouthing his country. And it is also no surprise to know he was the Andrew Ridgley of the Goodies the talent less one that Tim and Graham left behind. Now I do not know both of their political and social views, but if they are akin to Oddie then I would call them out the same.
As for Oddie's integrity, well fuck me talking globalist SJW shit in this climate is hardly swimming against the current is it? It is like working for Pizzahut and proclaiming you like cheese. Shit knows what the lefty BBC was worried he might come out with unless he is a pedo and it was his pizzle they were worried he might get out, cos sure as shit it would not be his political views.

I went to see Bill Oddie after the first series of Springwatch aired and he sat on the stage during the interval speaking to the audience one by one, asking for suggestions of what they could show next on Springwatch/ Autumnwatch. He sat on the stage crossed legged. He was interested in talking to us. And then he went off for bathroom break before coming back on stage. He was truly amazing to listen to and to speak too.

A hugely talented and accomplished man who been entertaining, in a big way, since the early 60s. A great writer of comedy, as well as a much loved performer. He's had a tough life with more than his fair share of personal tragedy. His openness and love of nature should be applauded, though many can't see beyond his mental illness....

I could listen to Bill all day - an inspiration to all on birds & wildlife. But here's a suggestion for him (and others) - shift our farming methods from Dairy & Livestock to Crops for Human Consumption. End Dairy / beef farming, and you end Bovine TB. Much better for the environment, and much more efficient use of resources.

Its interesting that Jeremy Clarkson mentions him in a sort of disgruntled way - the two both being seen by the Orwellian BBC as too honest for it - because Jeremy and Bill are - apart from their very different views on the environment - both of the same breed. As are Bill Oddie and the Pythons, such as John Cleese. Old fashioned, unconventional, classic English genius writers with a gift for comedy and a grace that modern 'Britain' doesn't understand. Oscar Wilde and Byron would be earlier examples, and these people are indispensable to the preservation of English culture.
