scott zastoupil He appeared incredibly nervous, hopefully he gets many more similar opportunities to shine, this was out of character and I attribute it to his inner-dialogue and nervosity...
The best man won and that's what competition is all about. Nervousness, pressure, blunders etc all these things don't matter now...he was world champion and he would have known more than anyone how to handle himself in these big occasions but he crumbled. All credit is due to Magnus though for keeping his cool on and off the chess board.
Amina Lucilia Jamal Magnus won by resign. Actually Magnus had a very bad play. His position worsened. Anand's improved but unfortunetly he couldn't draw this game due to that Nf1 blunder.
@3:45:42 you spent so lot of time... did you try to calculate all these complications/variations till the very end somehow? Vishy: No, I was thinking what to eat tonight? Magnus: *smiles* *thug life*
Question at 3:21:45ish. The answer according to fide-handbook LawsOfChess: "It is forbidden to write the moves in advance, unless the player is claiming a draw according to Article 9.2, or 9.3 or adjourning a game according to the Guidelines of Adjourned Games point 1.a."
Damn , im a Carlsen fun , but looking Anand trying so hard and giving everything , when i saw the disapointment on his face my heart really broke. This moment made me really sad.
I'm happy that starting with game 6, I believe, they put a small board, with current position & last move in bottom right corner allowing for the commentator's to predict certain lines while knowing the exact position of the pieces
Seems to me that an important part of Carlsen's strategy is to present problems that require his opponents to take LOTS of time at a crucial period of a game. Anand spends 45 minutes on Qf4 prompting Susan to comment before this move :" Anand is having a very deep think" and has only a minute or 2 for the remainder of moves till time control". 6 moves later Anand is resigning after spending less than 10 seconds on Nf1. Lesson here is: DO NOT play blitz with Carlsen in a classical time control game. Naka should have learned this lesson in Zurich round 3. Again, Naka blitzed with Carlsen in their game and soon Naka's head was nodding from North and South to East and West.
i prefer tanya & Lawerance to the susan polgar team because they concentrate more on the current game while Polgar team always talking about chess books and things
I prefer Polgar's team. I feel like Lawrence over does it, analyzing variations that are way off the list of possible moves. Polgar for me keeps more on the relevant variations. Of course Polga such a beauty too !
This was probably the scariest game in the whole match for MC but looks like the pressure got to Anand first in the critical moment. The game esentially ended the match in Carlsen's favor regardless of game 10.

In a 12 game match, going aggressive at the twilight zone is just too late. I blame Vishy's team for not advising him strongly to go aggressive much earlier on in the match. That was the only way to win this match. And neither did Vishy have this foresight. Thanks to both players for keeping us all so entertained for the last two weeks or so. This match will be a great eye opener for future challengers to Magnus Carlsen and Vishy has self done himself into being the guinea pig. From what I have witnessed, Magnus is not totally invinsible and will be beaten in the future.
To all Vishy fans. He's a great player but I think he's clearly out of his prime. He had an incredible run but time will always win out with every person. Magnus will be a great representative for chess as the new champion and public figure. He is already one of the greatest to play the game
jjphysstud Magnus is a dumb player. He is an unmatured kid who cries when he loses. But Anand keeps his calmness in a win/lose situation. Carlsen is great player bcoz he left all his studies and concentrated on chess only. Anand completed his higher studies and then became a World champion. Only that's the difference.
@@dhruvilpurani4806 magnus is actually extremely smart he drew with a person to have the 10th highest iq and knows English Norwegian Danish Swedish fluently and German and French to a good degree also he has accepted lost as he has gotten older and no is getting quite gracious in defeat
The reason for the blunder is mainly the time. Vichy had only 10-11 minutes remaining and still had 12 moves until move 40. If he had a bit more time, he would have considered Qe1 and not played the knight.
kakashi76767 Not necessarily, 29. Rh4 Qh5 30. Nxh5 gxh5 31. Rxh5 Bf5 and then white can push h5 , then force an exchange on g8 and force a perpetual check. Top three engines give this a draw.
Anand had 10 minutes to make 12 moves, true, but he still should not have missed Bf1. There were only 2 candidate moves to choose from, blocking check with the bishop or the knight. The old Vishy would have found it in 30 seconds.. I think he just didn't realize the possibility of the extra queen blocking the h file via Qd1 until he played Rh4. Then he saw Qd1 and it probably LOOKED lost for him, or at least his edge was gone. That is hard to take. So then he played Nf1 thinking that if white plays Qd1 NOW, then the rook can block the queen's access to the h file by going to f3. Of course he would have seen Qe1 eventually, but I think the very idea of the queen blocking the h file took him by surprise. Earlier he had a sweet time advantage and a nice position, but then he takes 45 minutes to play Qf4! This is what caused the time trouble in the first place. I realize there were a few enticing lines to consider but I figured that with all of his experience he would manage his time well, especially in a favorable position. Later he missed several chances to play h4 or Ne2, either of which would have made drawing easier.
No offense to Susan Polgar and the other grandmaster but Lawrence and Tania are much more entertaining as a commentating team. They have good chemistry.
Re: 3.45.40 Dana Starbuck, it was very harsh. He was under time pressure at the time and there were a lot of complications in the game. It was a reasonable question, but a very rude and uncalled for response. He treats Anastasiya appallingly at every press conference.

It is obvious that Vishy got nervous and tired after a three and a half hour game,,, but I kinda blame him for that cuz he took a long time making a few of his moves.
I followed this championship with great interest. Not being a chess player I don't understand why Anand's move at the end is such a blunder. At least to me it's not that obvious :). I let a chess program ("Arena") play from the point when Anand resigned, and the simulated game went on for lots of moves. So I wonder what makes this situation so obviously "indefensible" and made Anand resign. I would be happy if someone would like to explain to me what I am missing here. As I said, I'm not a chess player.
8 years and still no one bothered to elaborate ! Strange ! The point is if vishy continued magnus would be a whole rook up and if bishop was played instead of knight the chances of draw was potentially high and vishy needed a win for defending his title so he went berserk and played that knight move so he can take some positional advantage but he overlooked a very obvious queen move for black .. (i m newbie in chess as far as my knowledge thats the reason . I might be wrong ) btw in 8 years i believe you learned to play chess do you?

Polgar, it seems was very pro-Anand, she just gave her opinion of Magnus needing some praying to save the game. Her partner was saying that black don´t have any significant counterplay in the queenside. Trent also took white here...And Tanya knew better ;)

+smackdounnkol Not on the verge of winning, just a strong attack. It could've go either way depending on if Carlsen defends correctly or if he cant find the right moves. Have you analyzed the game?
+Adam C I think it's considered about equal after 28. Bf1 Qd1 29. Rh4 Qh5 30. Nxh5 gxh5 31. Rxh5 Bf5 32. g6 Bxg6 33. Rg5 Nxf6 (or else black is just completely stuck) 34. exf6 Qxf6 35. Rxd5... and I think Carlsen would have found these moves as black. Still it was a tragic way to lose for Anand.
"On the verge of winning" were my thoughts watching the game live (just because we, mere mortals, can't defend well, it doesn't mean the position is lost), after that I checked Stockfish and saw that white never had anything more than +0.4 during the whole game and in fact it was a dead draw with 0.0 in the last five or so moves before 28. Nf1 and you cannot possibly question whether Carlsen would have found those defensive only moves, he had done it until the end and after that showed what he'd play in case of 28. Bf1.
zeimarunescape No you are wrong. Magnus is not 10 times better. If you lose games consecutively then that does not make you a bad player suddenly. Anand is a legend. Carlsen was at peak of his period. Anand has family, kids and all. Anand is 44 years of age and this blunders are very common in his age. Also Anand had heavy pressure from his countrymen as WCC match was held in India.
World champion is a title that you can win by beating world champion in world championship match (like this). World number 1 player has the highest ELO rating, which tells how strong chess player is.
@@shahanshahpolonium Elo is just a number, if you play against weaker players, you can have a higher elo, cause you choose who to play (10 elo points at those levels is really hard to get thought), in a world championshio you play against the best of the best. That have said, 7 years later Magnus' still the champion and the highest elo so he is without a doubt the greatest active player, GOAT caliber, at the level of Fischer, Capablanca, Kasparov or even better
So when was last time World Champion lost his title without scoring a single win in the match? I mean undisputed World Champions , not those FIDE champs ...I think even Spassky beat Ficher couple of times in 1972. Poor Vishy,it is not fun to lose like that and in front of his home crowd
From the post game analysis, it looks like a DRAW. But during the game, the commentators thought for sure Anand had a win. At the same time toward the end, Magnus was away from the board many times...why? He knew White had nothing but the DRAW.
3:29:10 "Even we saw it!" What!? 🤦♂ You did not see it girl, you checked from the computer and the engine told you the move. The move might be less obvious, but your lie is!
No shame on Vissy for this in hind sight there was only going to be one winner. He didnt have any thing to prove either he has been at the top of the game for a very long time and still is a top 10 player. Now if we can just temp Kasparov out of semi retirement and back into his full power and show these wonder kids a thing or to from before the engines set in stone all the lines.
"I was wondering what to eat tonight" = no I didn't actually understand your question because I'm too busy belaboring over the fact that I suck without my computer analysis.

Carlsen was at peak of his period. Anand has family, kids and all. Anand is 44 years of age and this blunders are very common in his age. Also Anand had heavy pressure from his countrymen as WCC match was held in India.
Whats the difference with world number 1 and world champ?
World champion is a title that you can win by beating world champion in world championship match (like this). World number 1 player has the highest ELO rating, which tells how strong chess player is.
@@xvnbm in resent games atleasts Elo goes up and down. WC might not be elo 1 for all or any of the cycle
Wait a minute the highest rated player is obviously the best player right
@@shahanshahpolonium Elo is just a number, if you play against weaker players, you can have a higher elo, cause you choose who to play (10 elo points at those levels is really hard to get thought), in a world championshio you play against the best of the best.
That have said, 7 years later Magnus' still the champion and the highest elo so he is without a doubt the greatest active player, GOAT caliber, at the level of Fischer, Capablanca, Kasparov or even better

Let's be honest, magnus Carlsen deserved it. (Mangesh Kalicharan with love)
3:45:47 :D
They were not using computers during commentary back then
Who won the game?
Magnus carlsen
Lol
Am here after 9 years
is Susan wearing a cape?
3:45:50 HAA
No shame on Vissy for this in hind sight there was only going to be one winner. He didnt have any thing to prove either he has been at the top of the game for a very long time and still is a top 10 player. Now if we can just temp Kasparov out of semi retirement and back into his full power and show these wonder kids a thing or to from before the engines set in stone all the lines.
Anand deserve a win in this game. But God was on another side :)
No, Carlsen was on another side.
Carlsen was the god.
this has to be the saddest chess game i've ever watched
How Trent got his IM title is beyond me, he makes really bad comments. Thank god, we had IM Tania Sachdev to save him.
History repeats itself, Nepo blunders in game 9.
The difference is a title and a whole lot of money.
lol. wtf. I was wondering what to eat tonight ..haahahhaahhaahhaa...ahahahahahahahahahaa.
"I was wondering what to eat tonight" = no I didn't actually understand your question because I'm too busy belaboring over the fact that I suck without my computer analysis.
cory silva :P
YAY FOR CARLSEN :D
the bourne supremacy
_Are you running Treadstone?!_
Why is everyone acting like white was winning? White had at most a draw unless black made a mistake, which I don't think Carlsen would've.
Love chess
if two gods playing chess ... who wins
3:24:00 startet die Aktion
who came here after queens gambit ?
carlsen es el puto amo
What a game.
The blunder that made Carlsen world champion.
He was still quite likely to become world champion, even if the blunder didn't occur.
