I'm a grown man in my fifties. Don't cry very often. But three Mary Dillon/Deanta songs have sent little splashy things running down my cheeks. This is one of them.
This was me a few years ago when my wife of 26 years said she was tired of me, ranch life, cows and horses. I remarried another barrel racer five years ago and love my wife as much as l did her, but l as still think of her I once in a while and hope she's well!
I agree with the person who said, "Who would thumbs down this?" This is one of the most moving songs I've ever heard. Deanta is my favorite Celtic band and one of my favorite bands period. Too bad that they only released three albums in the '90s, but very good that after fifteen years Mary Dillon released a solo album called North.a year ago! The digital download is very affordable at Amazon. If you like this you will probably enjoy North as well.
Played the Deanta CD this morning for the first time in a while & found this stunner again. Mary's voice is so beautiful & sounds very similar to her sister's - lucky family.
This song reminds me of when my world fell apart and my wife of 26 years said she was tired of me and wanted me gone. I obliged, left and gave her the business, house, land, horses and stock. Took my dog and clothes and hit the road far away. Heard this song on the way to Texas, found the cd and spent a lot of time listening to it and drinking. Finally got it together again and came back home, got my own place, replaced my saddles and other gear and horses. But still like listening to it just because of her wonderful voice and it is a pretty tune.
I loved this song ever since HBO’s Happily Ever After The Happy Prince since 12 yrs old and at 31yrs old I still LOVE THIS SONG. And until this day I never new the singer.
Slim &Trim omg... same here except I am 24. I just rewatched that episode yesterday and it got some tears out of me. Absolutely beautiful episode and song.
I Have Heard This Most Beautiful, Heartbreaking Song From Deanta, I Have Ever Heard in All My Life. It is From The Episode of Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child, Entitled, "The Happy Prince." Just Before Pidge, The Little Pigeon of New York City is Flying, Has Passed Away and Died, At The Foot of The Mayor "Happy" Prince's Golden Statue, By Saying "Goodnight, Sweet Prince."

I am 57 10 years after Dionysos posted and I agree with him. Mary possessed the voice of an angel. 🍀
A more lasting observation I have never encountered!

Wow, I'm so sorry that happened to you. Hoping blessings will come your way. This song is very melancholic and beautiful.
How old are you, Bob?

Such beautiful vocals and instrumentals. I love how your accent flows throughout the song.
It is too bad that the audio on all the Mary Dillon songs on youtube are of such poor quality. She is such a good singer.
I love this song by Déanta very much ♪
I tried to cover it with my own band
Who would thumbs down this
beautiful song by Andy M. Stewart
Good night, sweet prince.
I wonder if the rest of that session is available anywhere on the net?
Mary Dillon is one of my favorite female vocalists.
Like a inside of hot water, in winter.
