Welcome to Hua Hin's new and rather impressive elevated station located just along the northern end of the platform of what might now be called Old Hua Hin Station, which I only filmed in April 2023 when it was still open. The new station opened on the 11th December 2023, and is elevated with new elevated tracks that run about 4km through the town in order to alleviate traffic problems that were once an issue here due to many level crossings. They were also built as part of the dual-tracking project on the Southern Line. The old station is to be preserved as a cultural landmark by the Fine Arts Department of Thailand with the ground-level tracks being no longer in use.
Now, I wanted to put a slight twist on this video, for a bit of fun. On TH-cam, I follow a guy called Geoff Marshall - ‪@geofftech2‬ - who has visited every station in the UK plus visits new ones when they open. Upon visiting them, he has a checklist of facilities and amenities to tick off in order to show what that station has to offer the passenger. So, here, I do the same! It's actually a very impressive station that offers step-free access via elevators as well as escalators; specialized rooms for various needs such as breastfeeding and luggage storage; a reduced ticket counter height to cater for wheelchairs; free toilets including one for disabled people; timetables; and TV screens showing train information. I was told by a station employee that there will be a food court with more toilets in the near future. Let me know in the comments if/when this has happened.
I also take a train about 10 minutes south of Hua Hin, along the elevated tracks, to another "new" station called Suan Son Pradipat. I say "new" as it used to be just a simple halt before the dual-tracking of the Southern Line. Now, it features brand new station buildings, facilities and amenities which I also take a look at. This station is now quite important in terms of cargo services as it will take over from Hua Hin as the new station there cannot deal with heavy items as it's elevated. So, if you want to transport a motorbike or bicycle on the train then you have to come to Suan Son Pradipat.
