    This repair was successful and I was able to test the card for about 2 hours and everything was functioning normally. Once Der8auer got the card and tried to test it unfortunately there was no picture. There could be multiple problems and not all of them showed symptoms while the card was with me. As this video shows there is serious oxidation on many of the pads and most likely the other 11 ram chips may have the same problem. The card will be returned to me and we will do a follow up video of this repair where we will find out exactly where the problems are, but definitely all the ram chips need to be reballed.

    • @GodKitty677
      @GodKitty677 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      That sucks the manufacture should fix the card, its their failure in manufacturing.

    • @Xfade81

      @@GodKitty677 they would have done this. der8auer explains it in his video why he went this route.

    • @floodo1
      @floodo1 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Yeah I wondered about this, if the one RAM chip was so bad who knows what you may find under the others.
      But it was prudent to stop after the known failing chip was fixed because no point in pulling the other ram chips if they’re fine.

    • @GodKitty677
      @GodKitty677 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@floodo1 Removing chips that work just to reball, risks killing the card for no good reason. Some places its 50/50 chance to work after reballing all the memory chips.
      Could be that the card was damaged in transit.

      Don't let it scare you off. There are some simple measurements that you can do to isolate issues on GPUs. The hard part is finding the right points on teh board to take those measurements. I fixed a card last year by following some of these videos.

      came here because of this GPU/DER8auer and would like a "look" at the reballing / reflow / computerized chip solder / removal (not at a copy level but how it is done / like your GPU repair levels)

  • @karicowo
    @karicowo ปีที่แล้ว +17

    I think the corrosion under the memory chip was primarly caused by condensation that formed while he was overclocking the card and cooling it with liquid nitrogen. His reflow attempt combined with the already corroded balls then caused the solderjoint to break.

    Awesome job Kris! I've been a follower of Louis Rossmann (Rossmann Repair Group) here on TH-cam for a few years. He (and his crew) do component level board on MacBooks. In the last year or so he has shifted his energy into Right to Repair (along with his personal tribulations ...lol) here in the U.S., but his many videos prior to about 2021 are most informative. He is a little acerbic ... a true New Yorker ... but does pass on much helpful learning to the public.

    Good work, I do find it quite funny all the negative comments or recommendations of what you should or should not have done. You are a professional and will do what is required to fix if possible the faulty 4090, you tested and proved it worked after you had reballed the GPU and a RAM what else do people expect you to do. If you find no more faults then its fixed, when its returned to you I am sure you will find out what was the additional fault is that appeared after it passed your previous tests. Great video. We look forward to the next video.

      Naja, das ist die Natur der Sache, dass Menschen mit sagen wir mal einem "anderem" Blick auf die Welt ein wenig Unterbelegt sind in der Masse. Das wiederum führt dazu, das die Masse immer jemanden der mal was Tolles macht zum Bejubeln und Feiern sucht. Ungeachtet des Inhaltes, welcher einem von den Feiermenschen präsentiert wird, kommt ein solcher Kanal eben nicht auf die Würdigung, welche ihm leider nur aus ideologischer Sicht zustehen würde. Es ist also alles genau so, wie es sein soll, wenn man nicht eben mal vor hat, einige Parameter so Grundlegend zu verändern, das man sowieso nicht sagen könnte, was anschließend dabei raus kommt. Wer Chaos schafft, bekommt Ordnung und anders herum. Oder anders: Wenn ihre Frage nicht vollständig Beantwortet ist, ist sie richtig Beantwortet. Salve Alucian.

    First time I saw how it´s done. I always asked to myself how they solder it all together. After you desoldered the GPU chip I was like "uh-oh now I´m curious how you put that thing together again" xD Dude that was mindblowing and exiting. Now I learned something new and interesting. Much respects man. Subscribed instantly. Keep up the good work man that´s really amazing.
