As a teacher, thank you SO MUCH to Netflix for putting this series up on TH-cam. I have many disadvantaged students who do not have Netflix at home, so being able to give them this amazing series to periodically watch as assignments is brilliant.
@@georginikov5026 They said they have 'disadvantaged students who do not have Netflix', not 'students that are disadvantaged by not having Netflix'. As in, students who are possibly living in a poor financial situation, who also do not have Netflix. And in any case, not having access to a resource - if it's for the purpose of learning - would make a student disadvantaged in comparison to other students that do have access to that particular resource.
17:34 "it's about showing up and getting started, and then something amazing happens or it doesn't happen, all that matters is that you enable the chance for something to happen and for that you have to sit at your desk and you have to draw and do and make decisions and hope for the best."
OMG this is one of the best short documentaries that I watch! Anybody who has a little knowledge about German spirit, philosophy, and art must notice how much Christoph manages to overcome himself in his own progress again and again! The whole episode is outstanding! Thank you Christof and Netflix!
I love how this doesn't pull the punches it is really difficult working creatively but like Niemann and that other guy said "while others are waiting for inspiration to strike the rest of us just turn up and get to work." *thumbs up* indeed
"inspiration is for amateurs', us professionals just go to work in the morning." it's just about showing up and getting started, something amazing happens or doesn't. boy I love this sentence in so many levels. that's exactly what I'm trying to promote, I was stuck on not getting inspired for so long but all that matters is simply to show up and do it! and one day it will be amazing!
As an artist, I encounter the same problems, Chris. It is so relaxing to understand that you're not alone coping with them. What's even better is to find solutions to these problems. Thanks once again for making this episode public
15:45 the mirror cupboard looks like it has a handle because of the reflection of the door behind christoph, insanely creative video thanks netflix for uploading it for free
It's good marketing, isn't it? Releasing a few of your shows online for free so that even more people will join the platform. Anyways, why am I even complaining, it's free real estate!
I never thought myself as graphic designer when I was just a kid but now I'm 24 and I've realise that I've been that think like a designer my hole life and I'm glade I chose my life an artist. Great episode to relate with.
Just perfect! It's totally true when u said: If experiencing art is so amazing, wouldn't it be great to create it?, the perfect trap, then... office, clients, hurry up!..hahaha. Thank you very much for letting us see a little behind your work. Please Netflix, Abstract II ;)
I'm in love, I think I became a big fan of Christoph, I just love his life and what he does for a living. A perfect example of making a living out of your passion
Christoph Niemann: wonderful talent, wonderful mind. He may not realise it, but he is a Zen Master! Wish I could thank him for showing us how to see reality for what it is - something entirely different!
This deserves SERIOUS awards. I am also a teacher. I learned so much from this and my 9-year old niece did too, right alongside. THANK YOU to all who made this happen!!!!!
Try to interpret and see it from the storytelling instead focusing on the art only. For me his way of storytelling is the charm point and his art style is the second reason why its mesmerising. But yeah everyone have different opinion about art its completely fine if you dont find it mesmerising, he himself said it some people will like it some won't, so its fine :)
The whole New York description was me in 1979. Half an hour doesn't scare me. Spending day, weeks on a piece feels like a waste of time. Wicked how we work!
This series and the one about video games (high score) are both unique and brilliant. This is pure genius... The storytelling is 🔥 41:20 😂😂 brilliant loopback to Charlie Brown
Beautiful work, to the people who created this! Amazing, compelling, fun storytelling, beautiful visuals and perfect animations. And thanks you Netflix for putting this on TH-cam for free!
3:36 it’s like going to sleep, you have to lay down and pretend to go to sleep and then the body magically goes to sleep. Similarly with art and design, you stare at the paper and wait for the magic to happen. Or even pretend you have something already and go through the motions of creating it until it become real
this is a very inspirer documentary because there is a lot of diffferent illustrators in the world who passes through the same path and tha path is represented with diffferent colors and textures
At 27:04 when he says, "but everything else would be crashing down." The lamp head tips over. Almost as if the lamp is giving a nod, agreeing with what he has to say.
Thank you @netflix for sharing such a wonderful documentary for free. It was very well-thought and well-produced, and totally captured the whole essence of the abstraction and art of design.
Best documentaries I have ever seen. It has introduced me to the language of design that speaks to us. The anxiety of magic moments and the importance of showing up every day.
I needed to see this 🤔 I resonate with this guy so much 🤦🏻♂️, every day I just fine myself just in a daydream of random ideas that just come out of nowhere then questions and questions 😂🤦🏻♂️
Christoph, you are awesome, I was so happy to see your art works, I have tons of smiles, enjoying bit by bit. simplicity and so much natural talent. very motivating.

Same here! These are so helpful for my high school yearbook class.
bruh
Not having Netflix is making you disadvantaged you say?

Everyone know the song 21:00 ?
17:34 "it's about showing up and getting started, and then something amazing happens or it doesn't happen, all that matters is that you enable the chance for something to happen and for that you have to sit at your desk and you have to draw and do and make decisions and hope for the best."
You miss every shot that you don't take.
And like my mom said, If you want to win the lottery, you have to buy a ticket
35:35 another profound moment.
OMG this is one of the best short documentaries that I watch! Anybody who has a little knowledge about German spirit, philosophy, and art must notice how much Christoph manages to overcome himself in his own progress again and again! The whole episode is outstanding! Thank you Christof and Netflix!
27:03 - Did anyone else notice the lamp's amazing timing?
Yes
you are so observant ! so cool!
Yes
" It's not about doing different things , it's all about doing things differently " - I think this sums up this video

I never thought myself as graphic designer when I was just a kid but now I'm 24 and I've realise that I've been that think like a designer my hole life and I'm glade I chose my life an artist. Great episode to relate with.
I am a software developer and Illustration is my hobby. It's beautiful the way he sees the world and the way he is able to express it.

Loved it. Fantastic. "if experiencing art is so amazing, How great must it be to actually make this stuff" :)

This is my favourite. So far.
Omg, this reminds me my childhood when I was constantly seeing images out of real world! He is such a great artist! Thanks for putting up this!
Brilliant documentary in its insight into the mind and 'real' work of illustration and design. Beautifully conceived and executed.
How cool to hear Andy Shauf at 19:08, never heard his music in other media before.
Best documentaries I have ever seen. It has introduced me to the language of design that speaks to us. The anxiety of magic moments and the importance of showing up every day.
