Please do not let other people tell you how to make your tutorials! These are your tutorials and videos, do them however you want to, and just ignore the negative people who are trying to "bully" you into doing otherwise! You are an awesome teacher, with wit, humor, and patience. I would have never heard of, let alone made stacked singles if it were not for you. If the negative bullies think they know better, let THEM make a "perfect, no mistake, non-human" video of their very own. Just keep doing you! You are beautiful, strong, and witty. Keep up the fanastic work you are doing! (BTW, you are the only channel I am saving of all-ALL- of your tutorials! That is how much I love what you are teaching!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤) YOU GO GIRL! 💓

You are so welcome. Believe me, we all fall into that self doubt pit from time to time. But no one should be trying to tear us down EVER. We should be upholding and lifting each other up. I'm here for when ever you need a "lift", giving you support by not only watching your videos, but as a cheer leader on the sidelines cheering you on! I really do love your videos. ❤❤❤❤❤❤

Totally agree!! One thing we know, now, is that stacked singles look better than turning chains.
I've been using them for years.
You shouldn't have to apologize for improving the old techniques that, frankly, don't look as good as what some of us have learned in recent years.
I ignore patterns that say to use chains as a starting stitch.
I use magic rings even when not called for.
I use foundation stitches even when chains are called for.
      I do it unapologetically. Lol
If people get worked up about that, let them get over it.
It's not like you are changing the overall look and design. You are just fine tuning the execution thereof.

This reminds me of a bedspread my mom and dad kept on their bed during the 1950's and 1960s. I remember pulling it over my face for a nap, and had popcorn dents in my skin when I woke up! Momma and Daddy's bed was the coolest place in the house for a nap!

@@justvintagecrochet I taught all my kids to crochet... even if they hated it. ch, sc, dc, rudiments of other stitches, and basics of reading a pattern. I am amazed at how many of them crochet now that they are adults, even though they hated it at the time. I also teach the basics of sewing/mending and how to run a sewing machine. Again, they may have hated it at the time, but ALL of them have had to mend something or sew on a button. Also knitting, cross-stitch, needlepoint, cooking, housecleaning, budgeting, etc, etc, etc. I tell them, "They're life skills, baby!"

phildar is a brand often used here in europe ( i am from the netherlands) it is usually a thinner cotton or cotton blend, which is why it called for the smaller hook size. They are mostly used for making baby blankets and amigurimi, cause they are cotton, and they last really well. they are a bit on the pricier side, but they are really good quality. Also, i love your nails! and Thank you so much for yet another great pattern, and video, i can't wait for the next one. I also remeber you had a pattern in a vid that called for 'scheepjes' yarn..? It is a Dutch wool brand, and the name is pronouced as ssjggeepjes or if you live in my area, skeeeepjes :D Thank you so much

Give sweet Merlin a big hug for me, please! And a huge thank you to Justin ( I have a Justin too!) for choosing this beautiful pattern. Ohhh myyyy ... i was tearing up off & on thru your entire video. Memories 😪❤️ ... many decades ago, crocheting some of my first similar squares. But more than that. I couldn't stop thinking of the beautiful piece of art - again very similar, and using good old cotton ecru "thread" and tiny hook - that my dear Angel Mother spent sooo many hours and weeks (months?) crocheting for her and Daddy's bed. It was still there, thru a few moves, up until shortly before they suddenly passed exactly 30 days apart. They loved Psalm 23. Daddy passed on May 23rd and Mama on June 23rd 💛💝🥲. You, unknowingly, touched my heart deeply today. Thank you & Bless you! Happy Glorious Easter to all who celebrate!

I’m so excited to see this pattern. My mother made it in the early 80’s for their double bed. I remember how much she loved making it, and it was so beautiful. She taught me to crochet when I was 12 and I’ve always been an avid crochet artist. I’m tempted to make a couple pillows from the squares just for the fun of it. Thanks for the excitement tutorial and for bringing back such great memories!

This was such a lovely pattern with such a lovely story! I hope the family enjoys the blanket, it looks so cozy already. And poor little Merlin was likely in a lot of pain, and that will explain his behaviour. Matted hair pulls on the skin, and he was likely very sore. Let's hope he'll behave a bit better in the future.

Poor Merlin! I'm so sorry he got frightened by grooming. It must be so much more comfortable after a good shaving though. What a cutie pie. Since so many dogs have sensitive ears the sound of a razor is probably terrifying to them. No fault on his character for needing a little help to get through it!

Justin really did not want this to be a surprise. First the grid picture. Then the single/double specs. Then the fact that it literally says the word "bedspread." But even if all of that were blocked out, I think the 78 balls of yarn would have clued us in for a blanket.

I just wanted to say, as a former groomer of 8 years, schnauzers are one of the “notoriously difficult” dog breeds to groom because a lot of them aren’t big fans of it. Schnauzers tend to be very headstrong (which I’m sure you know owning one lol). I admire that you guys are going out of your way to make him as comfortable as possible because that’s unfortunately not always the case. I just wanted to tell you this so you wouldn’t feel alone or like you did something wrong. It can be discouraging when our doggos get aggressive like that especially when they’re usually such sweethearts! You’re doing a great job and he’s lucky to have you guys as owners ❤️🥰

About Merlin, we had a similar dog that had more of a curly hair/fur instead and would end up really like dreadlocks. She didn't like the commonly used dog brushes that look like a bunch of needles, but she did accept a common human brush with plastic flexible brissels with little balls on the tip (not sure how to explain, Eng. is not my native language). It was more gentle and I think that the small ball thingy on the brush was pleasant for her as a bit of massage. My cats also don't like brushes if they don't have those tips, so my sister just bought a bunch of cheap brushes on the drugstore 😂. A big one for the dog and two small ones for the cats, each one had their own brush. Through the years they did pass away but even now that we have 2 newer cats they also like those brushes better.

After reading the comments it kind of make sense that Phildar is a brand. I only knew the name as a magazine that has knitting/crochet stuff.
Some days ago I was again perusing through Pinterest and came across some Tunisian crochet patterns that I think that looks a lot like the shawl you thought was knitted. I may be not knitted but made in Tunisian crochet. There are a lot of variations and I saw the fan/wavy one and the one with the lines/ridges that did look similar to what I remember from your video.
Thanks to you I finally tried my hands on "real" crochet and made a mug cozy in Tunisian crochet (hence why I was on Pinteres trying to find some kind of decorative border but they were all too advanced for me so I just did some picos I've seen you do). It came out a bit wonky but it is fine, I did learn this phrase with another YT creator: "We don't work with perfection in this household." Because crafting is not about making something "perfect looking" is about the process, the learning, the journey, the enjoyment. I will use that in winter (I live in Brazil so we just got into Autumn) and it will make me happy to know I did it by myself, even if it is not perfect.
    Thanks for everything, Corinna! 💕

The reverse popcorn could be the reason this pattern was chosen.😊

Omg Merlin! He's so cute!!!! Ya know, I was skeptical at the beginning when looking at the grid, but that's actually really beautiful! That's definitely the kind of blanket you wanna pass down in the family. Gorgeous!

I'm on my first square and really loving it! It's not the kind of pattern you can watch tv with, but it's great watching it develop. Edit: on my 16th square now and you can watch TV once you get used to it. ❤ Edit: I'm on my final square 20th September, 5 months in! I have been in hospital and had a major family crisis during this time though. I've made a single in aran weight and it's cost a lot, 😂 I bought two balls at a time to spread the cost. Luckily my husband loves it! 😂

Just a beautiful pattern, and you really made the picture justice, with an excellent Job on interpretation of the old written pattern. I really love this one, I will definitely snag the pattern myself soon. Right now I’m addicted to crocheting flower bouquets 😂 .. and yes I’m still on my row 7 Peacock filet pattern, so I feel the same about leaving it untouched.
P.S Thank you Justin for sneaking this pattern, because I would have done it myself 😂

Loved this pattern, and someday I will make it. So many projects, so little time. lol. I think I totally have ADD when it comes to handcrafts. Whether it is crochet, knitting, quilting or tatting. I even learn new crafts because it looks like my grandchildren would enjoy some of these crafts (like stamping). I so enjoy your channel. Thank you.

I'm an absolute neophyte when it comes to crocheting, but this pattern definitely looks like something I could do. It's really a gorgeous pattern, and I think it would make a great gift for my adult son.
