Recently Vietnamese are well aware of the danger because there are many fire with large casualties from building like this. Uyen actually explained a situation when there's fire but the residents could not escape because there's only one exit. We Vietnamese can criticize our livings too, but yeah, there are no other options though.
It's funny, this risk awareness thing. I and my Vietnamese girlfriend visited her home country last summer, and she was more hesitant crossing the streets than I was, at least at first.
Thank you to the ladies who shared their apartment. Very sweet and generous of you to allow us all in to see what it's like. ❤️ I really enjoyed it and you decorated so nice. It's so sweet pretty and cozy. Thank you again. 😊
I am very proud of Uyen when she shows her life before elevating her living standards because most of us third country folk live like that; and that apartment though small is very neat and cozy. Loved the market too , hit too close to home
I also love that she said that she's not ashamed of where she lived during university. It's part of the experience of a university student in her culture, and it's definitely nothing to be ashamed of. Uyen is so sweet and genuine ❤
I enjoyed this a lot, a beautiful wholesome glimpse into Vietnam. Uyen, I was very touched to hear you weren't embarrassed and looking back you have a healthy view of everything, even after living in better conditions. I struggle with this, going back to where I used to live in Romania is hard. Growing up, bringing friends to my house was very embarrassing. I'm amazed at your humbleness and outlook on things. Truly inspiring
Thank you, Uyen, this was very interesting as someone who has never been to Vietnam. I love learning about the culture and the authentic life in other places. All the best to you! Cheers from Bulgaria
This helps prove that Uyen is just the sweetest person on earth. Who else would be able to tour and record a strangers home? Very kind of them to let you do, so thank you to them. Very cute apartment, I love small & cozy places ❤
The parts where she was at the market are my favorite! It encapsulates the experience of being in different cultures. She questioned the safety and logic of everything, but gets excited about the negotiating of prices. A mix of her birth and chosen cultures.
There’s something so magnetic about how genuine and authentic Uyen is! ❤ I am addicted to her travelogues as well as humorous comedy skits! I love to learn about cultural norms and lifestyles of other countries, I wish to visit both Vietnam and Germany some day. Cheers from Mumbai, India!
About a decade ago, I spent a happy year living and working in Vietnam. For me, the most special thing about VN was the people. Outside of busy tourist spots, almost everyone I met was extremely friendly and helpful. Thank you for your great video. It brought back happy memories..
I agree - when my daughter wanted to study in Cologne a few years ago, we looked for an affordable appartment. Oh my God - this was impossible. Very small 1-Room-Appartments for horrible prices. Now she went to another city 😉
Do you sleep in the same bed/directly next to a roommate? The rest of the apartment/living situation does not seem that different from some living situations in Germany but I don't know anyone who shares a bed with their roommate. But it could be that I just don't know :)
I love that their stuff is so cute, the knitted cake decoration, the little monster pot holder, the mirror decorations. you can tell a young student lives there, they brought life into their space.
I love your adventurous and positive spirit. Thank you for giving us a peek into different places and experiences. I just want to hang out with you.🤗And a special thank you to the person who opened up their home to strangers on the internet. Much appreciated❤
The secret with AC is to select a temperature that is not much lower than the one without it. When outside it is hot, 30° can be enough to feel well, without costing a lot!
Thank you for the lovely look into your time in university. Also thank you to the young ladies who let us see their apartment! I think it's so cute and tidy.
Thank you Uyen for this video. I often wonder what my life would have been like if my parents hadn't left Vietnam and went to Australia in the 80s. I'm someone who values my space, and although I've stayed in family homes in Vietnam with multiple storeys and rooms, I can not imagine living in such a tiny space with friends.
My story regarding living in rented rooms: my parents & grandparents are farmers, so even if we wanted to, we wouldn't be able to come to another country anyway. Point is, I grew up poor, I've only lived with friends for 1 year, out of 10 that I live far from home. It was a bit uncomfortable, no privacy, the other 2 in the room are pretty chill but 1 of them keeps talking to her bf in the middle of the night without even lowering her volume (I struggle to fall asleep already, and get woken up in the middle of the night), doesn't take out the trash when it's her turn, etc... we did talk to her about it but I didn't want to make a big deal out of it, so I eventually moved out. Right now I live alone, the place is small but I feel more comfortable than the places I've been to. In uni lots of friends stayed in dorms and some would tell stories of loosing things, have an idea of who might have done that but doesn't want to make a big deal out of it so ended up staying, didn't call out the person, and keeps loosing more things. They have fun stories too and most of the time life is good, but I feel like I'm too paranoid for dorm life.
Really appreciate how you filmed the food being made and the taste test while commenting, and how you kept the mic near you in the last crowded place, so we could hear you very well without the noise pollution. Great content, Uyen!
You posted a video once like “why is the west obsessed with Pho? We have better dishes” And while yes, I’m sure that’s definitely true, at least here in America, we LOVE our soups, and fall is literally dedicated as “soup season.” Now, depending on where in the states you are, and who’s cooking, 9/10 you’re not gonna find soup that has super deep and rich flavors. They’re usually pretty bland in comparison, or, they’re overly processed because they came out of a can When you go from eating bland soups, or soups from a can, and then you try Pho………… it’s literally like that moment in Ratatouille where Remy’s mind is blown!
Great video. I am an American of Taiwanese ancestry living in San Jose, California) largest Vietnamese population in US. There is a lot that we have in common. I think of you as a cultural ambassador. Keep up the excellent work!
When I studied in Germany I lived in a similar apartment. It was only 13 qm big, the kitchen was under my bunk bed and only one window. It was crazy and over 300 euro. Wild times
Thank you Uyen for doing all this cultural exploring for us❤️. High appreciation also to the friend who allowed the peaks in her flat 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 I learned so much.
We are in Vietnam at the moment and will be in ha noi soon! Even as vegetarian/vegan the food is soooo good! We also love the fruits and banh mi and the fact that vietnamese make drinks and meals freshly everywhere. I mean everywhere! ❤
I just came across your channel while looking for places to retire. I lived in Germany from 1987-1990 while I was in the Army. I was stationed in Gelnhausen, which is about a 45 minute train ride East of Frankfurt. Great videos and best of luck to you and your Boyfriend for a great life. 🙂
Uyen - keeping it real - acknowledging the joys of community and friendship, in tight quarters.❣️ Thank you for sharing your Vietnamese home life as college student! Much gratitude to the host allowing you to record in their home.
This is really interesting! I'm moving to Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City) for work next year, but I have to do Vietnamese language training first, which I'm expecting to be pretty challenging! Thank you to the students who shared their apartment, as well, that was very kind of them.

I love this video thank you. As a westerner I don’t get to see the day to day life of countries that differ from our own. Everyone seemed really happy in that last restaurant, the food must be very delicious. 😊.
I honestly like the concept of the shower. Your toilet, sink, and floor will always be clean 😂 some homes in Korea have the same thing. I would love this ❤ anyone can make a space a home, no matter how small. She could even amplify the cuteness by putting a curtain on the lower half of the kitchen sink and counter. Would be so cute! Thank you and your friend for showing!
Vietnam looks amazing!! I can see how it would feel overwhelming to go back after spending time in Germany, but wow that food looks delicious. Thank you for sharing! And huge thanks to your friends that allowed us to see their great apartment!
The apartment is a lot like where I lived in Tokyo. When I lived in the countryside of Japan I had much more space but my current apartment is the same setup of one room with tiny kitchen area, then a ladder up to where I sleep.
Hello from northern California! ❤ love your videos! Thank you for sharing so much about your culture and your boyfriend’s as well 😊 I’m learning so many interesting things ❤
This was such a fun video! Thank you so much for sharing a typical student apartment, shopping areas and food. You have a natural talent as a travel vlogger! ❤
Idk when did you lived in that small apartment, but right now the price has risen about 2 times more than 2019, so we college students are having a hard time. It is really bad that more and more universities are built in Hanoi and they keep trying to recruit more students even though the city is overcrowded and rental facilities are terrible. And because there's too much college students, company just hire interns without paying, and the part-time job pay less than minimum wage(they paid twice as much for the same job in my hometown)
Thank you so much for this video. I truly enjoyed going on a virtual adventure. Seeing your face light up as you shared your student life was wonderful.
This was so neat to watch! It’s so interesting to see as a Vietnamese American who has never visited Vietnam to see how students live. Your thoughts on visiting are interesting - thank you for sharing!

Thank you for sharing your wonderful city and your experiences. My first time living in Seoul, Korea, my apt was this size. No AC and no hot water. There was no commode or a sink. I only had a hose coming out of the wall and a hole in scuat over. I had to shower with the hose and cold water. This was in 1975. Thank goodness this was for only about 4 months until we could get into our highrise apt. I thank God for the experience. It taught me a lot. Sending love from Alabama.
This was so fun to watch and get a little insight into your life in Hanoi! I'm going to vietnam in 1 month and am really excited to experience it in person ☺
I watch your shorts all the time, but this was my first time watching a full length video! It was awesome! Thank you for sharing a glimpse of your life. ❤😊
The culture shock I would have if I went to Vietnam. Oh man. Thank you for sharing this with all of us. It truly makes you appreciate what you have (for me at least). I am from Canada and we live very different. It's so crazy but also incredibly cool to see how other people live in other countries/cities/cultures.
What a joyful video. Thank you for sharing your student life days with us. I'm glad that the students had the opportunity to study, make friends, and experience more in life. It is difficult for all of us at that age/time. We don't need the full companionship of our parents, but we also have so little money to stretch our wings. I feel happiness that there was so much opportunity shared.
A lot of work went into this video - Thank you, Uyen! Whether in Vietnam, Germany, or elsewhere, you always have something entertaining, interesting, and enlightening to share🌷
I loooove the high ceilings. If it wasnt so drippy with humidity you could turn one room into a floor to ceiling library😊. Beautiful apadtment. I like a lot of the things they have
We have blood soup in Poland as well. Although it's made from goose blood. I love banh mi, crazy in the UK the cheapest I saw was like £8 😂😂 while in HCMC I paid like 60p 😂😂😂 your videos are warming my heart, I miss Vietnam so much, everyday wishing to come back there, to see Sa Pa and it's rice fields, chill in Danang's beaches, get get lost on small streets of Hanoi. Thank you Uyen ❤
i love the deep fried tofu with fermented shrimp paste and lime. my mom stopped making it because her and i would be the only ones eating it joyfully... so sad we had picky eaters in the family. i really love the taste and crunch.
My girlfriend is from hanoi as well and it's great to see how she used to live as well, she showed me a picture yesterday and her dad used to park their car in their kitchen, it was a kitchen/garage
For 180€ this is actually such a good place! … the room is not small, seems renovated and has a “Kitchen” and elevator …. in a german City it would probably be like 4x the price 😭 Even in Taiwan for a similar place I would have to pay double…
I love videos of you telling us about Vietnam. I feel I get autentic taste of Vietnam cause you have experienced living there and you can now compare it with German. It makes it unique and easy to follow as European person.
I liked this video very much. Experiencing Uyen going back in time during school days. My father made German sausage.Real casings were best and the needed to be fresh and triple washed.
I love loft spaces (where the sleeping area is), but the ladder needs a handrail! The fence shook when you touched it! I would be so nervous. The pkushie collection was adorable.
I loved this so much!! I feel like travel and food videos from a tourist is so different from a local. If you ever did a vietnam travel or food series, i would love to watch it :)
Viele Grüße aus der Schwetzinger Vorstadt nach Vietnam. So ein interessantes Video aus der alten Heimat! Vielen lieben Dank und noch einen schönen Urlaub ❤
Even the locals use German prices for her too 6 EUR for that hat is diabolical. For comparison, that money alone is worth 3 BOW OF PHO ( medium price store) or 7 BANH MI plus a cup of sugar cane juice
I visited Vietnam last October for 11 days Hanoi, Sa pa, Da Nang, Phu Quoc and Saigon. It was an amazing experienced food, very rich culture and vietnamese people. I will visit again very sooon! Please make a vlog for Sa pa. I really love that place.
I have been travelling through SouthEast Asia for over 4 months now, and the "open" shower is something i am still learning to appreciate 😅 everything getting so wet, especially the floor staying wet for a while is kind of annoying.. but i love bidet everywhere in public spaces ❤ i'll be going to Vietnam in march!!
Very informative video. Thank you! And thank you for sharing where you came from. It’s great to hear stories of coming from humble beginnings, working hard and continuing to gain success!
Thank you to the person who let us see her apartment. It's a brave thing to invite the world into your home. I loved all your cute stuffies.

She did a great job organizing her apartment, and it was very kind of her to show us.
So glad to see more of vietnam! ❤ Thank you to the students who shared the apartment. ❤ I need to go visit vietnam for food and shopping lol
i love the deep fried tofu with fermented shrimp paste and lime. my mom stopped making it because her and i would be the only ones eating it joyfully... so sad we had picky eaters in the family. i really love the taste and crunch.
🤤🤤🤤🤤
I love learning about your culture, Uyen! Thank you for sharing!
My girlfriend is from hanoi as well and it's great to see how she used to live as well, she showed me a picture yesterday and her dad used to park their car in their kitchen, it was a kitchen/garage
For 180€ this is actually such a good place! … the room is not small, seems renovated and has a “Kitchen” and elevator …. in a german City it would probably be like 4x the price 😭
Even in Taiwan for a similar place I would have to pay double…
The cutest thing is hearing your English sound more and more like a German speaking English, it’s adorable :’)
I'm a viet kieu with roots in Saigon in the south. It was really enlightening to see your daily life in Hanoi. 🇻🇳
Been really liking your reels and videos!
Much love from Alberta Canada!
Thank you for showing us a slice of what life in Vietnam was like!
I’m from the US and at 44 years old, I want to move to Vietnam for a year or so. I just absolutely love Southeast Asia and the cultures and food. 🤗
Vietnam is so pretty! ❤
Makes one appreciate what they have. Thank you to the student who let you in and describe the life.
Thank you 🙏 for sharing 🙏.❤ You made my heart stronger.
Viele Grüße aus der Schwetzinger Vorstadt nach Vietnam.
So ein interessantes Video aus der alten Heimat!
Vielen lieben Dank und noch einen schönen Urlaub
❤
You’re awesome! Thanks for sharing
LIKE how you spread Asian culture, specifically Vietnamese culture in such a warm and fun way, feel so relatable as an Asian too.
I love this video of Vietnam. Want to see more of the good food!
I just left Vietnam yesterday and my favorite food was Chạy food! There were so many different types of mock meat and marinated tofu that I loved!
Her heart & taste are still Vietnamese. But mentally, physically & emotionally German 😂❤
This perfectly describes how it was growing up asian in a western country!!
I really love that place.
thank you uyen, cameraperson and the people who showed their apartment!
Omg, the little baby girl clothes are ridiculously ADORABLE.
That was great, Uyen, danke schon!
That was a really interesting look into your culture from your point of view! I'd love to see you do more, in Vietnam and Germany. Thank you, Uyen.
