Seems like one of the most overlooked comment from this interview is the "soon come" culture which is prominent among our people. I say that to say this Martin is successful for 2 simple reasons, he understand the importance of being on time and being consistent.

Planting helps to prevent mudslides. How about planting almond trees, pistachio trees, walnut trees, beachnut trees, grape trees .... the fruit of these trees are healthy to eat. We could supply factories, etc. & build our own economy.
Me really admire Martin's energy & the love he has for his dream! I wish all Jamaican's would take pride in farming. A country that cannot feed their nation is not good so we all need to get with the program.
I come to Jamaica very often. I am from Clarendon, so my experience from that vantage point, Clarendon, was always a very fruitful and farm oriented parish. In my area, I could not help noticing that bush has replaced what was once quite fruitful. I thought that farming there died with the older generation. I got lost in Alligator Pond, trying to take a coastal route to Black River. En route, I was blown away by the amount of farmlands with acres upon acres of scallions/onions and carrots in St. Elizabeth. This is a very compelling and inspiring story. Farming is one thing that I would definitely do if I return to Jamaica or invest there. As a youth growing up, everyone around us plated something. Almost every kind of fruit and food was in abundance.
I hope the Jamaican government is watching this and taking notes. We always have people from different countries coming to Jamaica and invest in Jamaica, and in no time they make it. While I'm happy for their investment in Jamaica, I hope they don't turn on us and start kicking us out of our own little island. Not saying that this is the case with this gentleman. I'm speaking on a general term. They invest in our agriculture they invest in our tourism just to make money, but THEY don't really care about us. Thank God for the few that does. Thank you for the good work you're doing Mr. Martin.

I think many Jamaicans should travel and that might help them c the potential the island has, if you work with the nature and the strength that the island has you can make profit
Love this interview Throp. It is very helpful for us to see the good things that are happening. I agree with Martin regarding having a young minister of Agriculture, someone with energy to engage and excite young people to get involved in the business of agriculture. The most successful and scalable business are the ones that identify a market need and take steps to fill the gap. That is what he did. Most small business just seek to copy what others are doing.
As one from a little island, who lived from my parents'farming, It was very inspiring listening to the farmer in this video. I really appreciated him elaboration of his background before he became the star farmer in Jamaica. His starting experience was very well laid out as a solid foundation; not only for farming, but also for anyone to accomplish or triumph in anything in life; especially to establish a sound career. To make it in life people, above other values, must be courageous, inspired, disciplined, patient, humble, trustworthy, willing to listen to learn and prepare to battle and to prevail against the unseen forces that come to test everyone sometimes in life. (Like the talk goes, we got to have real backbones!) So, yes! It was marvelous as well as very encouraging to learn of Mr. Martin's successful life story! Congratulations Mr. Martin on your bravery and success as a farmer. May you continue to be the valuable example you are to other farmers as well as everyone who is truly ready to succeed in life. I wish you the best in the future with faith and great hope in God almighty by Jesus Christ his Son. Trust in God always; and lean not on your own understanding, and He will never fail you. So said He, so means He. Amen. Peace, joy & love! Thank you so much! -CANADA

Martin is an interesting character that made a wise choice in going into agriculture in Jamaica. I come from an agricultural background and would love to come back to that industry in my older years. What are some recommendations for doing so? What parish is the best to start a farm? Who do I talk to about doing so?

This is about this guy from Austria, who went to Jamaica to work as a hotel manager at the foreign-owned Half Moon hotel, who then decided to become the owner of his own farm in St Elizabeth. After seeing the difficulties that his hotel was undergoing, in terms of getting supplied by local farmers - which caused tons of headache in getting meals prepared on time for the guests - he then decided to set up his own farm to fill the dire need. So, he leased lands from people in the surrounding areas and started his own farm to fill the supply gap. His farm has become a huge success as a result and is now a burgeoning agricultural supply corporation in Jamaica. In the interview, he explained about the hardships of getting it all done, especially due to the fact that he was a foreigner - even though he had then recently married a Jamaican woman. It was not all a ‘piece of cake’ - as they say. For he had to first, battle the customary prejudice that Jamaicans have against seemingly “privileges foreigners who come to take advantage”. Then, he had to learn how to go about leasing properties in the correct legal manner, and then know how to grow the right crops for the most suitable soil, and so on, and so forth. On top of that, he had to make sure that his immigration papers were always in good standing - in terms of his working visa and resident status. Now, after twenty years, he has finally completed his naturalization status and is now a full-fledged Jamaican citizen - along with being a highly successful entrepreneur. It is quite an interesting story. And I wonder if he would qualify as one of the non-hated Whites in Ja. As opposed to Ukrainian Irena. Who, some people hate - I think mainly because she runs a regular yet successful TH-cam channel and is hence more visible to Jamaicans.
The funny thing about those comment from the 2nd paragraph in I thought of Irena the way how she is always so detailed like ChatGPT 😂 love that lady. She is a factual one you can’t buy that. ❤
I proudly do my !little backyard farming, I would love to farm on a wide scale but I need to fence the property because of animals plus start up funding.
This is very wholesome. Jamaica is an untapped marketplace. May we unite to build Jamaica and get rid of badmind which is what’s tearing the country apart. 🙏🏿

Martin.
WOW! CONGRATULATIONS SIR, BEAUTIFULLY DONE. I LOVE IT WHEN PEOPLE SEE OPPORTUNITIES THE HONEST WAY, AND TAKE THE RISK AND PUT IT TO GOOD USE.. Very very good advice
Thanks this was enlightening and educational. So many Jamaicans are of the mind set that the grass is only green on the other side.
Amazing I am proud of this. Man who come to Jamaica to do farming God bless 🙌

These presentations are absolutely invaluable! Thank you for sharing this knowledge with us.

As a young Jamaica I love to hear more about agriculture in Jamaica. This is a great industry that I seek to join in the future. Martin is an interesting character that made a wise choice in going into agriculture in Jamaica. I come from an agricultural background and would love to come back to that industry in my older years. What are some recommendations for doing so? What parish is the best to start a farm? Who do I talk to about doing so?
Very Informative Video...especially for those lookin to go into farming
I have property in Clarendon to lease but I live in Canada and would like to lease to you how do I go about it. How do I contact you

I enjoyed this program. Well done.
awesome, thanks for watching
Wonderful.....Big up yourself, Martin!
You bring so much value to my research and development with your conference. Thank you and keep it going. Hopefully I’ll be able add value back to your audience someday too. 🎉
As a new developer in the realeste market in St Elizabeth with a gated condo community. I can say he really understand the Jamaican culture and the people. And, Martin was very transparent about farming as well as investment. You hardly ever see others who are doing well in their endeavors offer the level of help he is offering. I love St Elizabeth checkout our gated community in Black River.
Great advice to those who have an interest in farming. Martin, you have done a wonderful job. Continue the good work and inspire others. Way to go
Point of information, Ginger Hill is NOT located in Tangle River. Ginger Hill is located in St Elizabeth.
This was a very good interview.
thanks for watching!
Some years ago I read about this gentleman and how he became a farmer and a top farmer too if I am correct he catches our language so well in a matter of fact he speak like a Jamaican
I really appreciate this segment, well said sir!
Martin Zsifkovics says "tree" months; I love it. What a brilliant idea AstroJam is.
This is lit. Good questions and answers and overall it was a wonderful interview. I learned alot as well and well done to Martin. Thank you for making Jamaica your home and I hope you continue to enjoy the island as keep up the good work in the farming industry alongside the work your putting in to promote farming and encourage hotelier to support the locals more. Big up sir and also to the panel and the participants.
This Man is from Austria and that country ws taken over by Hitlar yrs ago: Why r we selling out our lands to foreigners. Wake up JAMAICANS" Stop This mess" Jamaica is our home 🏡 and everybody want land and good climate: Jamaican,Jamaicans Stop leasing & selling yr lands to strangers: If these foreigners want to buy land take them to the ghettos to underdeveloped lands & make them buld up the country:
Ppl plz find out who this man really is & where he's from & his background. Why he doesn't want to live in his prestigious and Sophisticated country.
@barbarathompson9455 because he's free to live whereever he wants to, like the rest of us, as long as we follow the immigration rules/laws of our new home country.
Really? Find out where he is from? How rude! Prestige??
@@barbarathompson9455 what do you mean l lived in five countries abroad and they always asked why do you leave your sea and sunshine to come here please explain

There are many young farmers in Jamaica.
I'd like to see Jamaicans going to Austria to farm.....
Seems pretty feasible from the quick google search I did. You’d more than likely have to learn German though. But if that’s your dream I support you. Stay focused. Don’t let anybody discourage you. German is not an easy language to learn as a native English speaker, trust me I’ve tried. I wish you the best of luck in your international agricultural pursuits
Welcome to jamaica 👍
Please be careful, open your eyes 👀 be wise and asked God to protect you, don't let down your instincts.
Nice to have you in jamaica 👍
Very informative thank you for this segment. I think this farmer missed a question about GMO vs Non-GMO crops. Since food is our business, I need to know if the crops he produces are organic or GMO. I'm so proud of his efforts in creating a farming business and contributing to the development of Jamaica.
Very informative...very inspiring!
If the seeds are from Monsanto/Bayer, it's GMO!
Jamaica don't do GMO! Not good for you.
@@oliviamonteque6407 Yeah I hope this guy does not bring in Monsanto seeds to grow crops on the island.
Real man Martin and when I say he's real he I

I really enjoy listening to Mr. Martin very good speaker and entertaining
Verygood ❤❤❤
Thanks so much for this brilliant summary, namesake ❤
The owner of halfmoon is also An Austrian.
The funny thing about those comment from the 2nd paragraph in I thought of Irena the way how she is always so detailed like ChatGPT 😂 love that lady. She is a factual one you can’t buy that. ❤
Thank you moderator and it is commemorable to hear Martin being so authentic, passionate and experienced.

I proudly do my !little backyard farming, I would love to farm on a wide scale but I need to fence the property because of animals plus start up funding.

I am super proud to listen to that Austrian talking about what Jamaicans can do to make a living from farming.
This is very wholesome. Jamaica is an untapped marketplace. May we unite to build Jamaica and get rid of badmind which is what’s tearing the country apart. 🙏🏿
This gentleman offers very valuable insights into the industry as to where it is a and how it can be improved on. These are the kind of ideas that can affect change in the country to a more profitable and efficient process. I wish him the best in all his efforts. A true visionary

Great interview, great job. This guys has obviously done well and had a great strategy to grow his business. Most farmers are hand in the dirt farmers coming from the ground up, so to speak, they don’t come from education down. He also had some influence which he leveraged and has now paved a path. He should be respected and his model copied to continue to grow Jamaicas agriculture industry…
