This isn't my first time here. I come back to this video every now and then. It's been 7 months since I've watched the anime. And I still find myself thinking about Ash, Eiji, and Shorter. Banana Fish was just one of those things in life that will keep coming back to your mind, kind of like an outside cat that comes and leaves when they please. I would of never thought that some 24 episode anime would reset my entire mindset of what life is. (Not in a bad way..) but anyways, Happy Holidays everyone. Stay safe and don't forget to smile. Also...I'm pretty sure that 3:35 (if I remember correctly) is the veryyyy end of episode 24 when it says "the end" and everything just a little not so fun fact that y'all probably already know Idek.
I may have been two years late, but this anime and manga made me feel emotions towards a work of fiction that I've never experienced before, despite watching so many. My soul is literally broken by the ending, because I felt so much towards Ash and Eiji's journey together, especially because Ash DESERVED to have a happy ending after the literal hell he went through his whole life. I'm only grateful that the anime director decided to make the ending open, as it would've killed me if they followed the manga and therefore Garden of Light holds true regarding the anime (WHICH ADDED EVEN MORE PAIN AHHHH)
did you know after you die, for the next 7 minutes, your brain plays back all your memories in dream form? Ash literally died in that last second of happiness.
I still cant move on from the ending hurts so much. Thank you for uploading this. I may have been 2 yrs late from the fandom but im happy (with heartbreaking feelings) that i discovered this anime. It is by far the first anime i got really attached to even after the ending. I also hope more ppl will watch this anime bcz it is a masterpiece :)))

I kinda want people to not theorize why Ash "let himself die", since it was actually because the author claimed that he needed to "atone" for everything he did, which is a really shitty thing to do to a survivor of physical and sexual abuse
Survivor of abuse or not, he still killed many people. Fate and karma has a way of coming around one way or another. Ash was a good guy and I wish he got the happiness I think he deserved, but he also had to atone for all the lives he took as well. Just because someone is a victim of abuse, doesn’t mean they shouldn’t receive punishment for their own actions
I also had that sentiment imagine how different the story could have been if Ash didn't die and he was allowed to live and heal from his trauma? It would have made in my opinion a better story.

But I honestly don't see how dying helps him achieve that? And for the people he for the most part killed weren't innocent in anyway.
