This is the first massacre I remember in my lifetime. A lot of people believe mass shootings didn't start until the Columbine massacre in 1999. But along with this McDonald's massacre there was also a massacre in 1991 at a Luby's Cafeteria in Killeen, Texas that killed 23.
The Killeen Luby's massacre is what got concealed carry passed as law in our state. One of the people from this massacre who lost both parents in it but somehow survived herself became a politician in our state also.
I can not imagine the helplessness and unparalleled terror those people felt as they hid from that mad man. Under a booth looking at your partner and or children knowing there is nothing you can do to protect them or quell their fear. Absolutely gut wrenching. Hope they all found peace. And hope that turd is burning to ash and bone in the pits of hell over and over day after day…

If he had a mental condition and he was a mean abusive person to his wife & children, I’m sure he had said a lot of crazy things to his wife. She probably didn’t believe him & was just glad he was out of the house! Even if she had called the police, he still would have made it to the McDonalds and killed people.
Mental healthcare receptionist decided his case wasn’t “urgent” enough. The dispatcher didn’t listen to the 911 call and directed the cops to the wrong McDonald’s.. All in a days work, acting like they know it all.
It seems there's never any accountability for the pencil pushers for the mistakes they make in setting circumstances in motion that produce disaster, either through shiftlessness or incompetence or just plain gross negligence, There needs to be a way to hold the bureaucrats the pencil pushers & paper shufflers accountable, because they're the ones who constantly drop the ball, just look at all the corrupt, lazy- prosecutors who don't follow through on cases and protect the public and judges who don't put repeat offenders away but keep putting them back on probation, when they've already been given numerous chances. There should be a process, whereas sovereign immunity can be revoked on certain cases and bureaucrats could be open to being sued by victims of crimes or they're survivors.

Sometimes cops just brush things off. Most cops don’t do anything until the crime happens, then they all show up, trying to make it look like they’re fearless and powerful and they have everything under control. Then the fact that someone warned them weeks before gets brushed under the carpet. Up here in Canada, if you report something with proof and photos, they reply by saying “there’s not enough to file a police report”🤔 They’re as useless as a pair of tits on a fish.

I've seen a documentary about this massacre. The messed up part is that James Huberty had been showing signs of declining mental health up to 4 years prior to this massacre yet nothing was done about him. I don't understand how you can be threatening to do something like this for a few years and yet nobody has you committed or calls the police. Seems to me if you threatened violence like this today your ass would be locked up in a mental health facility or prison faster than your head can spin. But I understand that back in 1984 violent events like this weren't very commonplace. I was only 7 years old when this happened. I remember it being on the news. I also remember my father saying this kind of behavior is gonna happen more often in the future. Unfortunately dad was right.

This incident had a lasting impact on my life too, I'll never forget it. It was the first time something of this magnitude happened in such a public place. It was horrifying and I never really got over the senselessness of this act.

We feel isolated, no One to turn to, depressed and suicidal. I honestly don't care what others may think of my opinion but it's reality. What about the law enforcement member who took out this murderer, preventing him from killing more innocent people? I saw a news story that said the cop who put down that monster who killed Dimebag Darrell was really messed up about it afterwards, but he saved lives.
I first heard about this case through Lamont's channel but I'm glad that you're also covering it. This is the definition of a true blood bath. Literally victims blood everywhere you walk in and also outside of that former.McDonald's. I'm glad they tore it down and created a memorial even tho they rebuilt on its old ground. I saw a documentary on this and the former employees who hid, said the back door was locked, because it was thought that the young people were stealing food, sneaking it out the back door.

San Ysidro was mostly Hispanic back in the 80s...I reallly didnt understand why this man and his wife moved down there when his job was far away. Im 52 and i still get a creepy feeling.😳😳

What a monster..to kill a crying baby..its beyond words. He was a ticking time bomb & unfortunately his mental health was the root of it. Now when someone needs mental health services the calls are taken and responded to. In the 80s services were lacking. Then the 911 dispatch error 🤦 The memorial is beautiful though
I am so glad you covered this horrible tragedy. I turned 10 a few days before this happened and although I'm on the opposite coast, it made headline news and was memorable to me. It was the first mass murder spree I had ever heard of and probably played a part in my true crime obsession. They even discussed it in school when we went back. I work at an apartment building and one of the tenants recently committed suicide (depression from being unemployed from what I’ve heard). Mental illness is such a sad and serious subject. That said, I’ve always been angered over the need to murder people as part of your death wish. Misery loves company, I can only guess. I’m so very sorry for the people who lost their lives. And the fact that children were so mercilessly murdered is beyond comprehension, especially being an uncle myself of a small child.

I remember this like yesterday and it broke my heart. I wouldn’t take my kid’s to McDonald’s for a very long time and my first one wasn’t born until 1984. I still think of that when I walk in one so I use drive thru most of the time. After this happened anytime I go anywhere I look for exits , windows and ways out. Even my children do it- I taught time and it’s kind of sad. But it’s a reality this one scared me badly as a young mother
This tragedy is exactly why people should carry firearms in their person. Knowing where the exits are when a mad man starts shooting will only get you shot in the back!
Your kids are smart because they were lucky enough to be raised by a generation of nice and caring parents like you. But don't worry too much for the kids of nowadays tho... They're so GLUED to all their fucking phones and digital devices, that they won't even bother to be looking for 'escape routes' like doorways and windows. If something terrible like this were to happen again today, I'm pretty sure the bullets will find their mark NO problem!

I remember as a child hearing about this and then my parents driving me past it, I remember getting down and feeling the bullet holes.. At that age I really couldn’t comprehend what happened, but as an adult it’s horrible and sickening to think of.

People need to show more courage, especially the men. He would have had his back to some of them as he was shooting. If someone had the courage they could have ran at him and taken him down hard as he had his back to them.
Its called shock. You are not expecting to hear loud gun bangs and watching people including children and babies being murdered while eating at McDonalds.
The D.N.A isn't in everybody to take down a gun man. You would like to think that everyone could jump on the back of a person creating harm. But the truth is most ppl freeze up when there is serious danger unraveling! I was at a party one time n 2 kids where running around a large in ground pool. Small kids it was evening n there where at least 15 to 20 ppl around the pool n one if the kids got caught tripping over the diving board n fell into the pool . I didn't see it I herd it. N when I stood up on top of an elevated deck I could see the kid was in trouble. Out of all those people around the pool not one made a move to help save the kid. The just stared like a deer in headlights. Now picture a gun man . There are people who have the D.n.a to help but many don't. I jumped off the deck to help the kid.
You have to remember WHEN this happened. Things like this didn't happen in 1984. Not like they do now where most of us have become de-sensitized to it (sad, but true). I'm also sure that a lot of these people you are calling cowards, were probably draping their bodies over their children and loved ones trying to protect them. But sure, next time you are just having a nice little lunch at your favorite fast food joint and someone walks in with an assault rifle, a shotgun, and a handgun, and indiscriminantly begins shooting EVERYONE including an 8-month old.... absolutely, toss your Big Mac, Giant Fries, and large Milkshake and throw your 340 lbs at him. We'll all be so proud of your courage as you are buried in the ground.... alongside your wife and lovely children that he took out his rage on when you lunged at him from behind.
Actually, that's what saved lives at the Stem school in Colorado. A bunch of kids bum rushed the shooter. Unfortunately one died, but since kids here live close to and know about Columbine, they know running and hiding gets you killed.

Wow! I was a kid when this happened so I don't remember it. This is horrible. I can't believe they told him they would call him back in a couple hours, but instead from a phone call decided he didn't need help very badly so they would call back in a couple days. Here is an idea: If somebody calls thinking they are having mental problems help them immediately!!! If they had done their jobs properly and got him help all of those people would still be alive!!! I was in high school when this happened. Apart from Kent State, it was the only mass shooting I’d ever heard of, but I can still hear the news crews reporting on his mentioning of needing to ‘go hunt humans’. Horrible.
This definitely was one of the biggest massacres I've ever heard about!!! Although I do remember Columbine and that definitely was pure craziness as well!!! What's really scary is that we still have shootings and unfortunately it has become a "regular" thing so to speak!!

I attended that off campus structure donated to southwestern college by the KROC family that owned that MC Donald’s. I took a class there and the instructor told me to switch seats. For some reason students that sat in that seat tend to fail. The drive thru pavement was still there at the time. That was back in 1992. Every time I drive by there it reminds me of that day. I was only 12 years old when this incident occurred. Rest In Peace.
There have been a few McDonald's shootings and murders. There was several people shot and stabbed to death at a McDonalds in Nova Scotia, Canada in the 90's.

A man travelled across the entire state to target a city and business with many Hispanic and Mexican people. Twenty-three people died when the SOB opened fire at a Walmart here. I read another comment under this video where someone said that one of the staff kept the backdoor locked because they believed that the employees were stealing food.
If you watch the 77 Minutes documentary, a survivor, Wendy Flanagan, who was an employee at the McDonalds, said the emergency exit was locked. There was no escape. She hid in a small basement storeroom with several other people, Huberty did not find them.

I was visiting my mom when this happened. Her next door neighbors lost two of their five daughter's that day.

Sometimes cops just brush things off. Most cops don’t do anything until the crime happens, then they all show up, trying to make it look like they’re fearless and powerful and they have everything under control. Then the fact that someone warned them weeks before gets brushed under the carpet. Up here in Canada, if you report something with proof and photos, they reply by saying “there’s not enough to file a police report”🤔 They’re as useless as a pair of tits on a fish.

I've seen a documentary about this massacre. The messed up part is that James Huberty had been showing signs of declining mental health up to 4 years prior to this massacre yet nothing was done about him. I don't understand how you can be threatening to do something like this for a few years and yet nobody has you committed or calls the police. Seems to me if you threatened violence like this today your ass would be locked up in a mental health facility or prison faster than your head can spin. But I understand that back in 1984 violent events like this weren't very commonplace. I was only 7 years old when this happened. I remember it being on the news. I also remember my father saying this kind of behavior is gonna happen more often in the future. Unfortunately dad was right.

This incident had a lasting impact on my life too, I'll never forget it. It was the first time something of this magnitude happened in such a public place. It was horrifying and I never really got over the senselessness of this act.

I first heard about this case through Lamont's channel but I'm glad that you're also covering it. This is the definition of a true blood bath. I saw a documentary on this and the former employees who hid, said the back door was locked, because it was thought that the young people were stealing food, sneaking it out the back door.

What a monster..to kill a crying baby..its beyond words. He was a ticking time bomb & unfortunately his mental health was the root of it. Now when someone needs mental health services the calls are taken and responded to. In the 80s services were lacking. Then the 911 dispatch error 🤦 The memorial is beautiful though
I am so glad you covered this horrible tragedy. I turned 10 a few days before this happened and although I'm on the opposite coast, it made headline news and was memorable to me. It was the first mass murder spree I had ever heard of and probably played a part in my true crime obsession. They even discussed it in school when we went back. I work at an apartment building and one of the tenants recently committed suicide (depression from being unemployed from what I’ve heard). Mental illness is such a sad and serious subject. That said, I’ve always been angered over the need to murder people as part of your death wish. Misery loves company, I can only guess. I’m so very sorry for the people who lost their lives. And the fact that children were so mercilessly murdered is beyond comprehension, especially being an uncle myself of a small child.

Its called shock. You are not expecting to hear loud gun bangs and watching people including children and babies being murdered while eating at McDonalds.
The D.N.A isn't in everybody to take down a gun man. You would like to think that everyone could jump on the back of a person creating harm. But the truth is most ppl freeze up when there is serious danger unraveling! I was at a party one time n 2 kids where running around a large in ground pool. Small kids it was evening n there where at least 15 to 20 ppl around the pool n one if the kids got caught tripping over the diving board n fell into the pool . I didn't see it I herd it. N when I stood up on top of an elevated deck I could see the kid was in trouble. Out of all those people around the pool not one made a move to help save the kid. The just stared like a deer in headlights. Now picture a gun man . There are people who have the D.n.a to help but many don't. I jumped off the deck to help the kid.
You have to remember WHEN this happened. Things like this didn't happen in 1984. Not like they do now where most of us have become de-sensitized to it (sad, but true). I'm also sure that a lot of these people you are calling cowards, were probably draping their bodies over their children and loved ones trying to protect them. But sure, next time you are just having a nice little lunch at your favorite fast food joint and someone walks in with an assault rifle, a shotgun, and a handgun, and indiscriminantly begins shooting EVERYONE including an 8-month old.... absolutely, toss your Big Mac, Giant Fries, and large Milkshake and throw your 340 lbs at him. We'll all be so proud of your courage as you are buried in the ground.... alongside your wife and lovely children that he took out his rage on when you lunged at him from behind.
Actually, that's what saved lives at the Stem school in Colorado. A bunch of kids bum rushed the shooter. Unfortunately one died, but since kids here live close to and know about Columbine, they know running and hiding gets you killed.

I well remember this awful incident. I was quite young but vividly recall when this massacre happened. I watched a documentary about it some time ago. Extremely sad situation.

This is horrible. I can't believe they told him they would call him back in a couple hours, but instead from a phone call decided he didn't need help very badly so they would call back in a couple days. Here is an idea: If somebody calls thinking they are having mental problems help them immediately!!! If they had done their jobs properly and got him help all of those people would still be alive!!!

I attended that off campus structure donated to southwestern college by the KROC family that owned that MC Donald’s. I took a class there and the instructor told me to switch seats. For some reason students that sat in that seat tend to fail. The drive thru pavement was still there at the time. That was back in 1992. Every time I drive by there it reminds me of that day. I was only 12 years old when this incident occurred. Rest In Peace.

There have been a few McDonald's shootings and murders. There was several people shot and stabbed to death at a McDonalds in Nova Scotia, Canada in the 90's.
Dang.. didn't hear of that one. Maybe I can get to that one once I get to Canada

A forewarning to anyone interested in watching this documentary - it is real and raw and shows everything. I watched it after looking for true crime documentaries on Amazon, but had no idea it would show what it does. That was 2 years ago and it torments me to this day. Just wanted to give a fair warning.

This is awful! What happened here was senseless and horrible! Rest in peace to all of the victims. I am from El Paso, Texas, and this happened in my town a couple years ago. A man travelled across the entire state to target a city and business with many Hispanic and Mexican people. Twenty-three people died when the SOB opened fire at a Walmart here. This kind of hatred and insanity breaks my heart. Thank you for the videos!

That is awesome that your hospital does that. It does seem that mental health is not necessarily helped as much as it should be nowadays. Thanks again

There's usually a back door to these McDonald's buildings. Wonder why those 6 employees couldn't get out of the building through a back door.
I read another comment under this video where someone said that one of the staff kept the backdoor locked because they believed that the employees were stealing food.

If you watch the 77 Minutes documentary, a survivor, Wendy Flanagan, who was an employee at the McDonalds, said the emergency exit was locked. There was no escape. She hid in a small basement storeroom with several other people, Huberty did not find them.
