@@johngnanamuttu708 He won the first 11 rounds against Stevens and then got TKO'ed in the 12th. Seriously, watching someone rag doll Stevens is impressive.
Stevens gets the blame for ruining his career, but that point he was already out a year with a concussion from Kasperitis. That probably would have ended most careers now that we understand CTE better. Lindros had about 6 "concussions" at that point. In reality he probably had 30+. I'm sure he gave himself some mild concussions over the years with some of those hits he laid.

I remember my dad bought season's tickets for the Oshawa Generals' games in 1989. They had just acquired a 16 year-old kid named Eric Lindros. He was a target for opposing teams, initially, but as he proceeded to destroy player after player in hits and fights, word got around quickly. A superstar in-the-making who didn't need others to protect him. My favourite player of all-time, he wasn't destined for a long NHL career with his style of play. But, man, the physical dominance was unreal. Cheers.

Eric easily matched Gretzky in those elements of the game that made Gretzky put up the most points in history of the NHL. Yet, Gretzky could only dream of the unprecedented elements of versatility that Eric was able to make the part of his game as a power forward, which are elements that will have been and will have remained above and beyond any other hockey player's abilities.

The irony of these vids show Eric playing with his head up, and repeatedly crushing people trying to late him/cheapshot him. The Stevens hit was, a planned play, and should have been an ejection of the coach. They let a guy(Leclair) that just score 300 goals in the past 5 years skate in alone, with second highest scorer of the 90s skating alone to his left in Recchi. They were willing to allow an obviously 2 on 0 to purposefully hurt Lindros.

THE ONE ever.
А нам, признаем мы это или нет, остается лишь только ждать и надеяться, что когда-нибудь на лед выйдет подобная мегазвезда....

The clutch and grab systems, illegal for the first 100 years of hockey, became commonplace and were designed to protect teams from Lindros. @@michaeljoseph8674 Well, I played myself, fairly well and beyond h.s.. Holding was called as was interference, particularly when dumping and chasing. The types that were let go were the less flagrant fouls, the type of interfering that lasted half a second, considered incidental, and not all the time. Referees could be very strict. The types of interference and blatant holding that became the calling card of the n.j. Devils and others to follow was much more extreme and would have been penalized in 70's, the brawl era. The devils would grab and hold up a player 20/30 feet from the puck, and not for a flash like in earlier times but for the duration the player was forechecking. Now everyone can have an opinion, mine yours, they do not matter much. What I experienced and what you experienced playing or viewing are somehow different. Doesn't matter. The rules WERE changed. "Clutch and grab" was different than earlier times. Thats why it was defined as such. The goals per game dropped by nearly a full goal per game during the 1994-2006 seasons because of it. Fact. Forcing the league which was losing interest because of slow, sluggish play and low scoring to institute The goalie area, trapezoid behind the nets, where he could field the puck, and strict enforcement of holding and Interference, both reinstated to original intention after the lockout. This gave rise to smaller, faster teams effectiveness ie. The blackhawks teams. Over time the league found the game was getting ridiculous with the constant parade to the penalty box for minor penalties, and softened its stance on holding and interference, but NEVER, back to "Clutch and grab" levels prior. These are facts. I do not care who or what you blame it on or whether you believe it happened at all. Doesn't matter. The "Clutch and Grab" era is recognized by all. Irrefutable. It is generally dated between the years 1994 and 2006. It is always mentioned in conjunction with the N.J. Devils and their championship team. Facts. Lindros was viewed as a malcontent and the league promoted illegal tactics( Clutch and grab) during his tenure. Facts. They did away with said tactics as Lindros' career ended. Fact. That's more than enough evidence for me, whether or not you believe it doesn't matter. I too was there, and I too played and witnessed what happened. I'm not going to attempt to rewrite history, revisionist style, because of a disdain for Lindros. That's obviously why you came here. Again, doesn't matter. He's still the best I ever saw despite the hatred and dishonest play that effected his career.

His controversy was really uncomfortable for the NHL as it never to deal with "divaism" before. In the other big 3 its not uncommon to have a representative dictate where they want their client to play. At first glance one could make the argument of similarity with him and cam but Eric was Eric from day where it took Cam about 4yrs to be the player he was and even that was a short window. I’ve had a #88 jersey for probably 25 years now. I’ve always waited for another player like him to play for the Flyers, but it hasn’t happened and now the game has changed. It’s more about defense and the team just doesn’t have that many big, physical players now. But if we’re getting wins and 2nd in the division with playoffs, I’m all for however they play lol. Used to be Flyers and playoffs were almost a given. I know they’ve always come up short, mainly due to goaltending, but nowadays playoffs are who knows. Unfortunately, Stevens decided to pull off his garbage hit and finish Lindros' career. Too bad that no charges had been filed against him. Something like "Physical assault with intent to harm." A similar type of lawsuit had been filed against Bertuzzi. My boy Eric was simply "lucky" that the hit had "only" destroyed his way of playing, thus practically his career. Under the then circumstances, the hit could have had terrifying consequences for him.

I kind of grew up with the Broad Street Bullies of Clarkie, Bernie, etc, and Eric remains my favorite Flyer of all-time. He did have it all; I'm glad the Flyers just inducted him into their Hall of Fame; now, it's time for the NHL to do so.

How do you explain all the people he absolutely planted if he was leading with his head? Stop hating. He was a force. He had so many concussions not from being hit but from the FULL BODY CONTACT of all his hits. "Jarring the brain" inside the skull can cause a concussion without contact to the head. Watch the video. I saw him "headbutt" Stevens, majority all other hits are body to body. The way he leveled people wouldn't leading with the head have caused "neck injuries"?

    • @zalapski9399

    Peter Forsberg NHL PPG 1994-2011 1.250 QUE/COL 1994-2004 PPG 1.278 Eric Lindros 1992-2007 NHL PPG 1.138 PHI 1992-2000 PPG 1.356 PHI/NYR PPG 1992-2002 1.312 Bobby Clarke PHI 1969-1984 PPG 1.058 1971-1980 PPG 1.190
While Bobby Clarke is considered the best player ever to don the orange and black jersey and in his nine year prime, he was arguabl7 the best player in hockey second only to the great Bobby Orr in the 1970's. Fast forward to the 1990's and in the 8-year period from 1992 to 2000, Lindros despite the injuries and concussions, was obviously a better player if you want to consider the PPG average. Yes Lindros didn't have a decent goaltender, and the defense was shaky at best, but as a player, LIndros was just a better player during his prime than even Forsberg despite Forsberg winning two Stanley Cups and Forsberg having more success in the international competitions than Lindros, which is another topic.
In the NHL Lindros according to the PPG especially during his prime years in PHI had 1.356 PPG and even with the NYR still was able to maintain his PPG to 1.312. It was later in his career when the PPG average shifted downward and even then he still maintains an overall NHL PPG average of 1.138. While it's not higher than Forsberg's average, it's still higher than Clarke's, who had more help with Bernie Parent in the net, and the most feared goon squad during their time (Schultz, Kelly, Saleski, and Dupont).
All I'm saying is that had Lindros been mostly healthy and had Lindros had a better goaltender and even enforcers, I'm pretty sure he would've had a much higher PPG average. As of this writing, only Gretzky, Lemieux, Bossy, Orr had higher PPG average than Lindros and even the new kid from EDM, McDavid. He also has more hat tricks than Clarke in his career (13 including 11 with the Flyers over Clarke's 5; only Tim Kerr has more with 17). Once again, Clarke may be considered the best player on the Flyers, but during his time on the ice, Lindros was better in his eight years with PHI than Clarke was during his prime from 1971-1980 and especially in his career!!!

He'd of had a longer career had his tendency to skate w/ his head down been corrected in juniors. He was a man child in the NHL, but even more so in junior, and could put his head down w/o fear. But it should have been nipped in the bud then, b/c it cost him dearly. 8:30 THAT is the most frightening thing in this whole vid. Crushing Dimieo's soul, you can see it fly to heaven.

You my friend are the first I have seen with teh absolute accurate observation a very vry keen one..I was actually gonna make it a trivia question as to why did lindros get caught so often and that is exactly why..In juniors he could steamroll and in that era most players including myself knew at all times we had to keep our head ona swivel especially across the middle and the blueline. I rarely got caught only knocked out once most of the time I knew to take that one last look before I kept going and I know it saved me a million times..Dont forget they where alwasy coming for ya more in that era and so its true, he came into nhl with a bad habit because in juniors he never had to develope it and didnt have that fear we all had and it cost him..This is the truth..I wonder if he knows it himself? That would be very interesting to know..I hope so by now if not id say he isnt that bright then lol

great video man! i grew up watching the Legion of Doom era while my dad got to grow up and see the LCB line! he got to see two cups and was actually in the spectrum when they won it in 74. it's ashame the Legion of Doom never got to lift the cup but nobody can dispute when they were on the ice they couldn't be stopped!
