I have built both of the models and didn’t care for the A109. It was difficult to stuff the mechanics into the fuselage. At the time there were only mechanical retracts which significantly upped the workload. If your desire is for a stand-off scale, these aircraft are for you. If you want a full scale build then I recommend you look at Roban Super Scale helis. Then you are dealing with an interior as well as exterior. With these scales you get to bypass the facetiously pleasurable task of multi-bladed head tracking and balance.

These fuselages are definitely not meant to compete with Roban. They do offer a great chance for folks like myself (3D pilots) and Brian (F3C pilot) to try our hands at a fun scale project without having to pay Roban prices. The retracts that come with the A109 are mechanical. I’m currently playing with a set of electronic airplane retracts for it I’m modifying to fit. It’s a fun project so far. Thanks for watching!

Nick, I understand you stance and I’m completely on board with you. I was letting you and anyone interested know that the A109 especially isn’t plug and play, but does offer the simplicity of two bladed heads. Another thing that many people might not know or understand is that these fuselages do not like high Headspeeds and thus, changing your heli gearing may be in order. The tailboom resonates in the fuselage tailboom without shimming and sitting on block spacers could also introduce a vibration without having upper mast/fuselage bracing. Weight and balance was also a key factor on both fuselages. The aircraft when assembled are very tail heavy.
In regards to the retracts, having the right servo is key. In the days that I built mine, I didn’t have high voltage metal gear digital servos. It was Russian origami trying to get it all to work.
Weight is key! Having the proper ESC that can withstand the higher weights and thus the higher current and temps is worth addressing. Just trying to help ease other where my journey in scales has been expensive and sometimes catastrophic.

@@terrencejackson4587 Thank you for the tips Terrance. They are well received. We are totally new at this and will definitely learn "scale" tips and tricks from pilots like yourself, and also make some mistakes along the way. It's part of the process. I'd be super surprised to get the specter v1 in there, but it's all good if it doesn't fit. All part of the process. Again, this is the first, fun scale project for both of us and many more to come. Thanks again...

What Trex mechanics will fit the Funkey 550 size fuselage? My 550x is really a 600, and I have it in a 600 size fuselage. The older 550e or 560L might be smaller, but Funkey requires 720mm-740mm from main mast to tail rotor to fit. None of the Trex manuals specify that distance, only the total length.

I just got a Bell 222 550 scale, have not got the mechanics yet, have you ever found out? I noticed that the Trex 550X copmes with a 600 tail boom
