0:34 This is Southern Television, broadcasting from the Independent Broadcasting Authority's transmitters at Rowridge, Hannington, Dover and Heathfield.
This is imprinted on my memory and I always sing it to myself when visiting the Isle of Wight, remembering the picture of the Chillerton Down TV mast. I love the section begining at 3.05, jaunty and optimistic.
Loved the opening video that went with this too. Ah the days when ITV's local tv channels were truly local. Programmes made in the region by people you might have known or were likely to meet.
I miss Southern grew up with it from 0 to 23 years old this tune is my youth and the great tv station Southern theme 1958 to 1982 better than TVS and Meridian why did they close it down all those years ago
Beautiful tune, the clash of the symbols sounding like waves breaking and ships rolling with the movement of the sea. Very appropriate for the region Southern Television served with its long coastline, navy bases, ports, and the many seaside towns stretching from Weymouth to Whitstable.
@brybish She has been on TV a few times in the past. I think her dad was a BBc producer, any way I think she is now , like me, getting near her half century. Bless!
We always turned on the TV early, about 4pm I think, to watch the opening film after the test card, loved the music. Is the opening film available on You Tube? would love to see it again.
+Michael Beeny Yup, just search for "Southern TV startup" to see the a startup of the tuning signal with the original version of this music, Brian Nissen doing the "ITA" announcement, then the film at the end.
Always nice to listen to this. Brings back lovely memories

This isn't the version used by Southern Television.
Where's the girl in the test screen now?
Does anyone know where I could buy the mp3 version of this song?
On Amazon Music Eric Winstone Orchestra orig. 1958 recording
What is the composer ? Richard Addinsell ?
