    STEP 1
    We admitted we were
    powerless over alcohol - that
    our lives had become
    unmanageable.
    STEP 2
Came to believe that a Power
    greater than ourselves could
    restore us to sanity
    STEP 3
Made a decision to turn our
will and our lives over to the
care of God as we understood
    Him.
    STEP 4
    Made a searching and fearless
    moral inventory of ourselves.
    STEP 5
    Admitted to God, to ourselves,
    and to another human being
the exact nature of our wrongs.
    STEP 6
    Were entirely ready to have
    God remove all these defects
    of character.
    STEP 7
    Humbly asked Him to remove
    our shortcomings.
    STEP 8
Made a list of all persons we
    had harmed, and became
    willing to make amends to
    them all.
    STEP 9
    Made direct amends to such
    people wherever possible,
except when to do so would
    injure them or others.
    STEP 10
    Continued to take personal
    inventory and when we were
    wrong promptly admitted it.
    STEP 11
    Sought through prayer and
    meditation to improve our
    conscious contact with God as
    we understood Him, praying
    only for knowledge of
His will for us and the power
    to carry that out.
    STEP 12
    Having had a spiritual
    awakening as the result of
    these steps, we tried to
    carry this message to
    alcoholics, and to practice
    these principles in all
    our affairs.

I had the privilege of knowing him well. He spent time with me, explaining this path. I went to his funeral. I worked with him. He loved me and saw the real me. A very spiritual man.

Are there any resources, books, etc that you have that he shared with you (especially regarding meditation amd also inventory). I wish I could have met Mark, but it's great that we have his audio recordings and people like you who learned first hand from him.

Did you know Dave F? He and Mark did a Fellowship of The Spirit in New York in 2001. I would like to meet him. I am sad to know I will not be able to meet Mark. I am very glad that we have his recordings.

I also relapsed a few years back at 10 years of sobriety and I did not meditate then. I meditate every day today and only today matters and my sanity has never been better. You can't stop the voices but you can develop selective listening by meditation.

Mark H was a great AA example. Rest in peace Mark.
Mark David Houston , died suddenly on February 19, 2010. He was 63. Mark was born in Iowa on October 14, 1946.
Mark Houston's famous sayings is, "I need one of two things - a lot of God, or a lot of Alcohol..." At 10 years sober in AA, Mark found himself suicidal.
Dissatisfied with the message he was hearing in local meetings, he started his own small AA group and committed to the Big Book's instructions line-by-line, and with continued work found his connection with his Higher Power.
He was huge on mediation practice. Another of his instructive sayings was, "I don't care about your OPINIONS - tell me what your direct EXPERIENCE is ..."

Most alcoholics are also sex addicts - few will ever admit it. But take people through a 4th and 5th step and you will see it.
