  • www.autobytel.com/chevrolet/ma... Chevy's mid-sized sedan was redesigned for 2013 but when it hit the market it went head-to-head with redesigned versions of the Ford Fusion, Honda Accord, and the Nissan Altima. So Chevy has once again updated the car to make it more competitive. The base model 2014 Chevrolet Malibu starts at $22,340 with the top of the line 2LZ costing $29,950.
Does Chevy's updated Malibu have what it takes to go against the heaviest hitters in the mid-sized sedan segment? The main changes on the exterior occur upfront with a redesigned grille, different fascia, and different headlights. For the most part the rest of the body is carried over from the 2013 model year.
Under the hood is an all-new 2.5 liter EcoTec 4-cylinder engine that makes 196 horsepower and 191 lb-ft. of torque. The motor features a start-stop system and direct-injection. The transmission is a 6-speed automatic. Fuel economy is rated at 25 MPG in the city and 36 MPG on the highway.

Yeah right. I own a 2015 Malibu 1LT. This car is fantastic! The materials aren't cheap, the interior is fantastic, everything is outstanding. People are just picking on GM for the simple fact, IT'S GM! 4G LTE WI-FI. It's preppy, the 2.5L gets to 60 in 7.8 seconds. It has backup cam, a sunroof. I don't understand his discrimination against this car.

    • @tachikoma747
      @tachikoma747 9 ปีที่แล้ว

Nikki & Eryonne ;) ♥ A lot of the discrimination comes from the aesthetics of the car. The Cruze and Malibu look boring compared to a vehicle like the Fusion or Corolla and GM really needs to do something with the interior dash design. The dashboard looks far too "busy" on the Impala and the touch interfaces on the Malibu are counter-intuitive. My wife and I looked at both this and the Fusion SE and went with the Fusion hands down

What????? The side profile is awesome to me.
The interior is awesome to me.
I have no problem with my MyLink, and its not counter-intuitive for me at all.
I understand reviews, but to make statements that seem to suggest my likes or dislikes, seems bossy. Basically, tell me what "you" don't like, not what "I" don't-won't like.
It seems that there are a lot of people that regardless, of these reviews, still think these cars are awesome.
My main point here is; Don't tell me what I will or won't like. [Oh, the interior is dull, the body lines are bland, the power isn't good, the engine is too noisy, this car just isn't worth the money]. I watch the reviews to decide for myself what I like or don't like about the car. lol One good example is just from watching this video, I can't tell what the power of this car feels like. From this video, I can't tell how you're really using the MyLink. I went outside after watching to see if my MyLink actually was like that. All, I can say, is,... No issues here. I like looking at the interior [day and night]. And I'm always checking the exterior, because I think its got a very hot look.
      That's my view

I own a Gen 6 2007 Malibu. I've got 158,000 miles on it, keep it very well maintained, and it's still running like a champ! Great gas miles, too. It gets roughly 25 city/30 highway. The Gen 6 is hands down one of the best body styles out there, and this body style mimics my Gen 6 very well.

mike19621000 yah. He forgot to mention that the radio beats the competition like actually being able to put a big touchscreen in the car. And having great sounds from the speakers. Like he left that out. The radio sounds amazingly great!! My brother was the one with the 2013 Malibu, and he got a lot of questions from other family members if the radio was stock because of how clear and deep the bass was. It was good. I cannot lie. The bass was loud. No distortion. The radio was loud. The tweeters were loud too. The thing I do not like about the Chevy’s or GM cars is that if the battery were to be dead. The key will stay in the ignition. It won’t let you take it out. Unless the battery gets juice and then it’ll let you take it out. But other than that it won’t do anything.

Evan Ganske I'd say it's on the about the same level as the Sonata but a bit below the altima, fusion, and camry...the latter two offer excellent hybrids which I'd take over the Malibu

    • @evanganske9240
      @evanganske9240 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

mb013962 I was just in a Camry for a week and it wasn't a bad vehicle. I had a few complaints overall ranging from low-grade materials that didn't follow through to uncomfortable seats over a long period of time. The Altima is and will always be a pile of junk. The Fusion isn't bad to drive, but the exterior is gaudy and the interior is boring. Not to mention MFT and SYNC which are awful. GM is currently working on a next generation eAssist Mild-Hybrid system for use in or around 2017. It will take up less space, be much lighter, and more efficient. All DOHC Ecotec and High Feature engines will be getting Intake Variable Valve Lift and Dynamic Skip Fire to increase responsiveness and efficiency. GM will also be coming out with their 7 Speed DCT as well as 9 and 10 Speed Automatics.

I own a 2014 Chevy Malibu LT with the 2.5L engine. The car is very attractive looking and I get many compliments on the vehicles styling and appearance. I do agree with what he is saying in terms of the fuel economy. Based on the sticker I thought that maybe I'd get about 5 MPG less at most but I get far less. Under normal combined driving condition I average 25 MPG (without using the remote start). I do like the Chevy MyLink System as well as the Bluetooth Streaming Audio. This allows you to pair your smartphone to the MyLink System and listen to music that is on your smartphone through the vehicle's audio system. The ambient lighting on the dash is very elegant during night time driving as well. I honestly didn't think that I would like this vehicle as much as I do now when I first purchased it. I purchased this car originally because I had a vehicle that was under finance that caught fire and needed $6,000.00 in repairs that I could not afford and that my insurance company would not cover. I ended up trading the vehicle because I couldn't afford the repair bill and the 2014 Malibu at the time (February 2014) had $4500 in rebates that helped me eat up the repair bill that was owed to GM's service department. Based on my situation at the time I purchased this vehicle not even really wanting it and so far I must say that I am impressed over all. I'm saying this because my Malibu is just as LT and it does have quite a bit of options for the price of the car compared to other new cars on the market similarly priced.

I don't know why everyone think that the ford fusion exterior is good looking, i guess to each its on. Not in my book, this style Malibu is hot, Its aerodynamic, it got a bold, muscular stance and just got a better all around appearance, most people i know don't like the back but i think GM did a great job contrasting the rounded front to a square back. Very distinctive back from all of the other mid size cars.

I really don't know what this guy is talking about. I rented this car this weekend on vacation. Drove it over the course of 4 days. And I really liked the car. Nice pick up and acceleration, the handling could be a lil stiffer, but the ride is nice. My gas mileage was pretty good. I started at full. And when I returned the car it wasn't even past half. And I drove a good amount. I loved the seats and stereo. This guy is clearly has technical issues. I was able to work the mylink system just fine once I learned it. It just take a seconds to load up. You and can go from channel to channel on sirius with the seek buttons. I'm looking to buy a sports sedan next year. I currently have a 2004 Mazda 6 which i love and not getting rid off. lol And I might put this into consideration, but I like a lil more power. I'm more of a Charger, Maxima, etc kind of guy. But for the money this car gives you a lot.

I just bought my new Malibu LT last month. It is a good car to commute, very quite when driving. The Auto stop future is cool, feel like a little bit german style, but I don't think it is helpful for fuel consumption. Till now, the mpg is 20 combined, not what they said on window sticker 25/36. All others are good.

Like you got to wait for the radio to fully start up to turn it off. It’s loading. Nothing will let you turn something off if it’s booting up. You can’t expect for a 1st gen MyLink system to be all snappy and fast. It’s a brand new system to Chevy. It’s atleast to be the first car to put one in on the Chevy cars. Buick’s intellilink is the same but different startups. But you have to give the radio time to turn it off. You can’t expect it to be off right when you turn it on. Just like the older radios. You have to wait.

sits in the back seat with front seat ALL the way back and says he has no room for his legs.. I drive rental cars every week and this has been my favorite out of everything, I'm currently buying this car. 36,ooo for a brand new one or 14,5oo for a '14 used with 30k miles (ltz model only here..) Out of all of the cars this was most comfortable enjoyable ride I had. the inside is spectacular and the ambient lighting at night is awesome. It's the newest most luxurious used car you can get for 14 grand hands down, I'm also hoping that the value won't come down much more then that, it's lost over 60% on sticker price in only 2 years on the road. This is why I will never buy a new car, worst investment ever. I heard car loses 5k off of book value once you register it because it's no longer classified new, it could have 5 miles on it.

Listening to this guy talk is worse than hearing a dentist's drill. Honestly, this car is unfairly reviewed by so many honda/toyota fan boys. If Chevy could literally built a Bentley, and charged 35,000$ for it, the press would still tear it apart. Any real car enthusiast can see past this elementary school level review, but Joe-six-pack average consumer will take it as gospel.

That's interesting that you aren't getting that great a fuel mileage. We had to rent one after an accident totaled our Tahoe, and somehow, someway, I was able to get 25-28 mpg in my normal driving style. I don't really accelerate aggressively (it shifted around 2500-3000 rpm, but felt torquey for a 4 cylinder engine with a real kick around 4000 rpm), but I do cruise around 65mph. Around here, there's more of a highway if you take one route into town and MUCH more of a city stop-and-go route if you take the other way. I almost never use the city way, but on the highway side, there is a pretty substantial, if short, hill, but it never went lower than 5th gear unless I went to pass someone. Then it went into 4th and hovered around 4 grand, but by then I was giving it serious beans. I only did that once, but it did make me start looking at sedans. I'm 5'6" with a wide frame, but only 130 lbs behind me, so it's about the right size for me in any seat, but what I didn't like about it was the styling made rear visibility a bit worse than I thought it would be. That being said, I think you could fit enough luggage for a fairly long road trip in the back without any drama, and still get there cheaply with the fuel economy of the non-turbo engine.

I dont understand why American makers can't get a big back seat. Asian automakers have been able to get HUGE back seats and tons of interior cabin space from even little compacts like a Corolla and these mid size sedans like the Malibu and Fusion have like 0 leg room in comparison.

Nick Olsen Americans prefer HUGE trunk space. It's why we love SUVs, so our sedans have to have a lot of trunk space. I'm fine without it personally. I don't have a lot of shit to haul, or dead bodies to bury in the desert.

This is the only review I have found that claims the incorrect mpg. Try looking up the real consumer reports for this car, multiple sites are flooded with people happy about the exact fuel mileage number BEFORE BREAK-IN. I also disagree with the opinion of exterior profile shots, but seeing as this an opinionated part of the review it is arbitrary anyway. The malibu also has one of the highest rated nav systems in the segment, this guy doesn't appear tech savvy and he shows it. I have this car. I give it a b- c+. I haven’t had many mechanical issues other then normal wear and tear stuff. I like the my link system.ps you can push the seek button to go through the channels.you can also add a
Channel to your favorites and it will appear at the bottom of the screen. I hate the start stop system as this model you can’t disable it. The batteries are expensive. It’s also not the fastest car . It’s a Chevy so if you take care of it ,it will be fine.

Good review. You called it like it is and many of the things on this 2014 Malibu that I didn't like , you coincidently mentioned them in the video. I do like the exterior's meaty appearance of this car more than the interior but only with the 18" rims because the standard 16" wheels make this car look pathetic. I agree with Autobytel guy that it looks wonky from the side but I kind of like it. It's more distinctive that the look-a-like competition. And that complicated Stop-Start system has to go GM! Why does Accord, Camry or Altima have better mileage without that stop-start crap.

    • @evanganske9240

godfatherNYC I truly hope for your sake, that you know that your words don't offend me. I am proud of being who I am (whether that is a flaming faux-hawked twink or whatever more compliment's you have in store). Just because I have more +'s than you doesn't mean that it's okay for you to be a butthurt troll. It is quite obvious to me that you haven't been in a Buick for a long time. Go take a look at a shiny new Verano, a second top rated sports sedan by CR Regal, a luxurious LaCrosse, a practical Encore, or a comfortable Enclave and then I might be able to take you seriously. The new Envision crossover and Cascada convertible model's are coming soon as well. I have an iPod Touch 4 and an N7 and am a monthly subscriber to Spotify Premium.

I thought it was nice to see a review that went past "oh it's great, fantastic", or the simple "it sucks". Let's face it, even the top cars will have annoyances. Great point about GM wanting cars to be softer on bad roads since they are located in Detroit. For those of you who don't know Michigan has the worst roads in the world. Seriously, India may actually have better roads. The Big 3 get an earful everyday about how rough cars are and seem to have listened.

Rental queen POS. I'd make this a rental car only and start over as a Nova.
    If you don't:
This NEEDS 30-31 MPG Combined. The problem I see is that engine bay is designed to accept a V6 which adds a TON of weight. Yes dump the V6 & Turbo, this car should not reach 36-37K.
The back seat is a joke and always has been a joke. Address the engine bay & stretch the wheelbase.
Start Stop is garbage unless you have an electric powered AC. Otherwise you will fry if it's 85F+ outside when the engine is stopped.

Our 2014 2LTZ Malibu has been averaging 23 City and 34 Highway (and beating everyone else's a** with best in class 295LB-FT). We had a 2LT loaner car for a week and were averaging 28 City and 39 Highway with best in class 196HP! The engine bay is actually designed mainly for small I4 engines, but will be able to accommodate a small V6 with a few changes. Stop/Start won't work if you have the AC/Heat on. Our top end 2LTZ with every box clicked just hit $35K, but we ended up paying around $23K with the GM Card Savings and Trade In.
