Other than multiple-choice exams, the measurement of our education is to copy everything down exactly as told, and regurgitate it back, exactly as was spoon-fed to us.
Obey without question. Bow in servitude. Fear the punishment.
Mind you, there are a countless number of Thais who are brilliant. But they are brilliant despite the education system, not because of it.
Ideally, education should train young people to become thinkers and leaders.
But one reason that explains why Thailand slows to progress is because the education system trains people to follow blindly.
Education conditions us to the fear of being different, the fear of thinking outside the box, the fear of asking questions and making arguments, the fear of expressing our thoughts, the fear of standing up and speaking out unless it’s to recite exactly from the textbook.
