Living Without Mountains in the Midwest

  • Over the last year or so I’ve been really craving mountains. Anybody that’s been to Minnesota knows there aren’t many around. So to make up for what I’m missing I try my best to get out into any kind of nature whenever I can. Even if it’s just stopping at a regional park after running errands at mall of America on a Monday evening for a short hike like this one
Minnesota does offer a bunch of really great, beautiful hikes, particular up north on Lake Superior but they don’t really make up for the lack of mountains. I keep considering moving out west to be closer to them. Maybe I’ll be able to make that happen one day... I have a trip in the autumn to the Pacific Northwest that should help scratch that itch.
For now I’ll keep making the most of what’s on my door step and I encourage you to do the same.
If you’re ever in Minneapolis, Minnehaha Falls is definitely worth the 10-15 minute drive from downtown. The waterfall is obviously the main attraction and that’s where you’ll see the crowds but following the creek down to the Mississippi is worth the time too. There’s also a great fenced in off leash dog area if you feel like bringing your furry friend.
Leave a comment to tell me about your favourite local hikes and thanks for watching!
