  • I had a crack at making my own cradled wood board to use for my painting, and the process is so simple! There are definitely other (possibly better) ways to do it but this way is quick, easy, and repeatable. You could knock out a few boards in a day making completely custom sizes.

    Fantastic video! It’s important for people to see that making your own substrates isn’t all that difficult with the right tools. This is incredibly helpful!

    Good job can’t wait to see what you paint on it but I don’t think my hubby would let me use he’s tools

      Hahaha get him to do it! Check out the video on my channel prior to this one, I used the panel to create the artwork from the thumbnail for the Pride Month Collab

    Great job! Very inspiring it’s got to be more cost effective as long as you have all the equipment! That “canvas” board was really thin I wonder if can get that thin in the US? It’s too thin for plywood… looks almost like balsam wood think that’s what it’s called !?

      The board is 3mm plywood, no canvas :)

    Can a round cradled wood ‘canvas’ be made at home?

    • @rainandpours
      @rainandpours  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely! It's a different process though and a fair bit harder. With the circular stuff you need a special circle cutting router jig to first cut the cradled part from a piece of 16mm MDF, then you'd cut your circle from the 3mm ply the same way using the router (I'd make it ever so slightly larger and trim down like I do in the video). Then glue it up, trim it down and voila!
      I won't be doing this any time soon though! haha

    Roughly what is the cost to make one that size please? Not that I will be making one that big. I am more likely to make two out of that size. I would make that size for a table. Is it strong enough to be a table. Thank you.

      If you were doing a table I would suggest using 16mm MDF or plywood rather than making it as a frame with thin ply. The way I did the tables in my cafe table video is much better for that application. Cost wise for that sized artwork was about $30 for all of the wood, but of course buying in bulk and making multiples would work out cheaper

      @@rainandpours, good point,I wasn’t thinking how thin it was for a table and I obviously need to watch the cafe tables again, it’s been awhile. Great price though for art. I wouldn’t even look at the price of one that big in an art store. Thank you Mitchell. 🦋
      PS I am not on FB just now. Have the best time in Vegas.

    I think staples will rust over time and ruin the painting in the long run

    • @rainandpours
      @rainandpours  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'm not sure about that. Rust is oxidisation of the metal. The staples are sealed in by the filler, paint and then resin. I guess we shall see what happens!
