This is really an amazing review on the internal components of the MM8077. Thank you very much for giving us this rare opportunity to view the unit's inner components as opposed to the usual review from others.
My foam was also damaged exactly like that, but only worse on arrival from Bestbuy. But, thankfully it's worked w no problems for the past couple year. However, I do find I had to turn the volume up after 1 yr 1/2 to achieve the same volume levels. I purchased other amps to remove the load from this amp. I think it won't last many years of heavy use in 7 channels driven mode. Just my opinion from my 2 years of use.
Excellent job and the video is very much informative all the best and expect more like this 👏👏👏 Request to Marantz engineers and the QA/QC department to look into the assembling quality .
I have been thinking to buy AV7705 with MM7055 as a package although I was too skeptical about the potentiality and longevity of MM7055 .. this breakdown has put me into a great confusion now .. 😕 Anyways..! You doing great👍
Love your break down and attention to detail. You can count me as a new subscriber. I love my Marantz 8077 . I do wish it was a little quieter, but am more than pleased with it overall performance over my Emotiva xpa 5. I do wish they had better quality control and don't understand why they don't paint the whole inside of their covers. It's the same way with my Marantz 8801,8802a and 7705. Penny saved I guess?
surprised you would take apart your very expensive amplifier !!!!! its such a densely packed unit i got a chance to see how a seven channel unit works all the circuts involved in your opinion it does sound good a few negative points on quality nice video .*
Hello @bored_tech :) I would like to kindly ask you to tell me and if possible to share a picture where the fuse of the MM8077 is? I need to replace mine fuse and was searching the internet to find the fuse location. Thank you very much in advance!
Hai sir am using Marantz SR 8012 AVR with Bic America PL980 tower PL 66 surround PL 28ii center channel which power amplifier to suitable my system, Marantz MM7055 or emotiva basX 7 which one suitable power amplifier sir pls guide me thank you
Thank you for your question. I haven't got to take a close look at Emotiva amps. Regarding the Marantz, I wouldn't use MM7055. I saw pictures of it's insides and they doesn't look very promising. If you specifically like Marantz, better go for seven channel MM8077. You can use those two extra channels to Bi-Amp your front speakers.
Hello thanks for a great video. I currently have this amp using in the USA on 110v 60hz and will be going back to the Philippines that use a single line 230v 60hz and not possible to get 110v from such system without a step down transformer. Is it possible to convert it to 220-230v? Is so what's involved ?
Oh dear... You will definitely need to replace the toroidal transformer and possibly the "stand-by PCB". Probably it would be easier to sell your 110V version and buy 230v version. Really hope that you will sort this out. Or It's a good excuse to upgrade for a better amplifier :-)
I have this amp, well I have two actually and suddenly it kept turning off and going in to it’s tripped out mode. I don’t understand what is the problem cause but channel 6 when connected to a speaker does not work and trips everything out. It was working ok and the speaker works fine. I had the Kef R300 speaker Bi amped from the adjacent amp channel.. the problem channel is totally dead. Swapping inputs etc still dead. Looks like an expensive repair.. any advice please ..
R.I.P. channel six. I believe you need to find authorised service center. I'm fixing my own equipment when I'm able, but I's only my hobby and I can't give you professional advice. Good luck with you repair.
Excellent job !! I to are disappointed 😿 with the build quality I was looking for one of these for my System but went with a Anthem MCA 525 5 channels amp. Is the 8077 fully differential?.
Probably I'm not the best advisor, as I haven't got a chance to listen Onkyo, Denon or Yamaha. But my thoughts about Marantz you probably heard in my videos. Hopefully I'll be able to teardown one of the Denon receivers in the near future.
Great job - My Audiolab 8300xp had those same sanken transitors 8 x and nice size power supply and toridal mains transformer 700va but 2-channel and about 35lbs rated at 140watts 8ohms /230 4ohms build quality very good whatyoy call output power pcb is same as driver board correct ?
That seems to be a refurbished unit sold as new. I'm not surprised that Marantz cut corners in order to save any penny at the detriment of the consumer. These units are sold at premium price and funny enough, the MM8077 got 20% price hike since Masimo acquired Sound United. They are after the money to pay back that $1B purchase...
@@boredtech , As you see on the pcb's of the rca en XLR, it states the MM8003 Marantz amp which was 8 channel. Marantz just used these and didn't solder the 8th one on it. Haha, I didn't look at the full video, now I did. So you discovered it yourself.
I watched a few videos on this yesterday and someone made the comment that you want to buy the one from China vs Vietnam. I wasn't sure if it was you who mentioned it or someone else, but do you know why buying the one from China is better?
Broken Styrofoam indicates that somebody already opened this product. They grabbed and pulled the Styrofoam from the inside which puts too much stress in the wrong place thus ripping it... Shipping stresses cannot break Styrofoam in this way because the possible outside forces cannot apply enough force to rip the Styrofoam in this way. (Especially if the box isn't overly dented) It was done by a person pulling it out of the box in the wrong way... This product is probably a return or a store model.... Look closely at the tape on the top and bottom of the box. Does it appear reapplied or replaced? Maybe even doubled up... Also you can tell by the stiffness of the 2 side flaps of the box while opening. If stiff its never been open, if loose it's been opened.
I don't have the box anymore, but I definitely remember that styrofoam looked compressed by the impact. That mark was located at the same corner where the transformer is.
what a POS ... can you break down a Emotiva Made in USA ... Marantz does sound good i will say . I had to open my Emotiva amplifier cause it was shipped out with a screw rolling around in it no big deal but while I was in there I thought it was clean . Like to hear your thoughts and any thoughts on how a USA built stacks up with china or Vietnam. I also took apart my Emotiva XMC-2 and its nothing like a Marantz in that everything is modular , ribbons and wires connecting other boards , not a compounded mess like marantz . I just subscribed
The speaker terminals are the same as in Denon pma 720ae. Made in Japan is better than made in China, but made in Vietnam is problem to me. That s the reason why i will not buy the new Marantz model 50 stereo amplifier. They stop using the ELNA and Nichicon capacitors and Bando transformers. Now they are using su scon capacitors and no name transformers.

Thank you!
You are a very brave man!
That pinched cable was a real shocker.....I do hope Marantz get to see this fascinating clip.
i HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR SUCH A PRACTICAL REVIEW , MANY tHANKS

I thought of purchasing this, after watching this video will never ever think of purchasing it.
Yeah, it's your chose. I'm keeping mine for now.
I haven’t seen the whole video yet, but why don’t you want it?
Good job. Here is your algorithm tickler.
Awesome, thank you!
Well done man. amazing technical breakdown. would love to see your thoughts on Emotiva amps...

Amazing. Would love to see some older receivers or amps. Older Onkyo would be cool. Thx certified
I'll try my best.

Indeed, it sounds fine, but they have to pay more attention on assembly process.
@@boredtech Agree 100%. If you want to be a top tier audio brand, then attention to every detail is part of being top tier .
were you able to get it back together for next video?
Of course, I even cleaned all the mess that Marantz factory left inside.

It look like this is the case. I have a question to AV.COM who sold it to me.

Looks easy to service but a repair shop would charge an hourly rate for labor.
Class AB or Class D amp??

I don’t know how this could be any good without a horizontal gyro tuner wheel. 🤓
I'm not sure what is horizontal gyro tuner wheel 😳
Hai bro. I am Indian this transformer output ac volt how much bro.
Try to find the service manual, I'm sure you will find all the information you require there.

My NR1403 is still going strong but I'll not consider Marantz again after this.

Super ❤ from india.i had plan to buy but this is disappointing
Yes, this is sad. Marantz used to be top notch back in the days.
Koshin capacitors?,sounds cheap to me...
An to think marantz use to be made in the USA....
That probably was looong ago...
Imagine paying 1000 € and getting a damaged packet from marantz

I am not at all impressed with this internals. I would like stick with my Elite forever 😏
Agree, there are better amplifiers on the market. But I will keep this till better times.
I've seen better component placement on a $3 Chinese walkie talkie. I'm referring to the CPU board. Seems Marantz is going down the toilet sadly.
This is a rip off ... The internals are so average for the amount they ask to pay for it.. I will stick to emotiva and monolith
I'd like to make a teardown video about Emotiva amp. Maybe someone could borrow me one?
@@boredtech why don’t you ask emotiva or mono price directly
Hmmm, that's an idea.
I don t like make break the marantz new only for commently
Sorry, I don't really understand what you mean.
Not impressed at all
In the amp not the video

Well I used to work in a repair shop this looks pretty easy to service but time consuming.
