    Call an exterminator for the mice problem. They will find the entry points and there’s usually a guarantee depending on which company you use. You don’t want mouse poop around your toddler.

    Hate to break it to you, but mice can chew through the plastic. If they want it bad enough, they'll get in. Also, keep the dog food in a metal container so the mice aren't eating that as well.

    I lived in an older home many years ago. Mice took over like your describing. Nobody really likes putting out mouse traps but it's the only thing you are going to do to stop them. Don't be surprised by how many you catch when you start. Will be way more than you can imagine. Mice carry diseases. I would definitely get rid of the problem. Pest control service can also eliminate the problem. With your daughter playing on the floor and such it might be a good idea to set traps inside the pantry for starters. Also they come in to seek water. Check around the pipes coming in your dishwasher a very common place.

    Hey Jess! Great vlog! About the mouse problem, I suggest calling an exterminator, as they can find out how the mouse/mice are getting in. So even if you do set traps, others could still come in, so not solving your problem. Good luck! 🍀

    Good call on the mouse proof containers. We had them at our cottage and you can get really sick from mouse poo and stuff, gross. They can get thru the tiniest holes, less than a dime size! Make sure everything is sealed and caulked so those little stinkers can’t get in. The rule of thumb is that you see one, there are 5 more out there, yuck.

  • @marievogt4705
    @marievogt4705 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Take it from someone who has had mice issues....they do not leave and they multiply. You are going to have to use traps. You may want to check all throughout your home because they're nesting somewhere. You should see signs mostly poop but they do urinate as well. Check in your sofas. I don't mean to upset anyone, but they can do damage and you don't usually just have one.

    I have lived in the country, and I now live in a small city in an old house and I have dealt with mice. I'm an animal lover. That being said, girl, I'm really sorry, but you gotta get some mouse traps and get over it. Just think of the fact of the disease and general nastiness that they carry. I have an indoor cat, but I still don't want her getting the mouse, I'm thinking it could make her sick. My chihuahua, I think the same. I just say to myself, ok little bastard, you are cute and have your place outside, but you get in my house, all bets are off. Sickness, disease, and general nastiness is not cute. Do you, but that is how I think of it and am able to do what needs done. I used to try to be humane about it, too, didn't work. And I'm sure I'll get a lot of flack for this, but I don't care, say what you all will.

      I am just writing this in the comment above. I agree mouse traps are a must. With a child playing on the floor and such that is gross. I had this problem in an older home I lived in years ago. They were practically we found out later nesting under the dishwasher. I can't begin to tell you how many traps went off so fast. They do carry diseases.

    • @andrealovesproducts
      @andrealovesproducts 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Ikr. People commenting to get a cat but then you’ll have to give your cat medicine to ward off sicknesses from the mouse. I have two cats (fur babies 🥰) and I would never want them to get mice. -Anyway what I’m saying is that I agree with you. 👍

    • @starwhale
      @starwhale 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I’m with you. I gave into traps the other day and it finally caught that #?#%ing mouse. It wasn’t as horrifying as I thought it would be when it finally got it. I thought it would be a bloody mess. I actually heard the trap go off, it sounded like someone hitting a pillow. Anyway I agree traps are the way to go and of course blocking all entry points is so important.
      The pee from mouse alone is so unhealthy. I also suggest getting a black light so you can see the path they’re going as you will see the Pee Trail. But caution it’ll promote cleaning everything after use a black light.

      @@starwhale back in the late 90s I lived in a really old house. When I got the traps out to set up, about 7 went off in a 2 hour period. I was so embarrassed but they can get in small holes usually near water drains in the kitchen. Mine the dishwasher. They will actually build nests in your house under things. I always called my daddy around the street when they went off as I couldn't bring myself to look at the blood from the trap. LOL

    • @christyshuler7633
      @christyshuler7633 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Couldn't agree with you more. I used to live in the country and it's not something you can just hope goes away. It only gets worse until you fix the problem. I wouldn't ever hurt an animal in a normal circumstance but like you said when they've invaded your home, all bets are off.

    Make sure you seal all the crevices in your house to keep mice out. For instance, around pipes under sinks, and outside, garage, etc. My daughter had a mouse problem and discovered they were nesting in the insulation in the walls. It was awful. They had to tear all the insulation out in the basement.

    Mice can squeeze through a quarter inch crack in the wall! If you're leary about exterminators but have friends that are contractors or knowledgeable about houses they can teach you where to look in the foundation of your house to seal up. Also mice can chew through a lot! In some of our houses we first used a fine mesh steel wool before sealing up cracks and holes. Test all the window and door seals. Cable lines etc. Use humane traps to catch your current infestation if you can't handle the regular traps (I can't stomach it either!)

  • @manonmaddox3327

    I reorganized our pantry a couple years ago, and it was literally life changing. The first change was switching out the wire shelving that we had installed when we built the house for solid shelving, like shown in the video. So much easier to keep clean, and stuff doesn't fall through anymore. The second change was how i categorized everything. I used to have things separated by packaging (all canned goods together), and by food item (all grains together). Now, i have everything organized by cuisine. So, for example, i have an Asian section, a Mexican section, and a Mediterranean (Greek/Italian) section. When i am prepping for a recipe, everything i need is all in one area of the pantry, instead of having to search different shelves for the ingredients. It also makes it easier for the husband and kids to help put groceries away. Win-win! 🖤

We did something similar to ours as well but it doesn't look nearly as nice. No paint or sealing. Future project, maybe? If you don’t want to hire an exterminator, you need to find everywhere they’re coming in from. And seal it up. They can chew through things so putting steel wool in the hole before properly sealing it up is key too. The problem is, they can get in from the TINIEST hole and exterminators are trained to find/fix those problems. The containers is a smart move though!

    I had the same issue - they can get in through SUCH tiny holes too, so even if you think you've found how they're getting in, you could be wrong. Stuffing steel wool into the holes in the pantry ceiling helped in terms of future prevention for us, but unfortunately we had to resort to the Tomcat more humane traps that you don't have to see or touch the dead mouse. You put peanut butter on the inside of it, set it, and forget it. Then every few days, check it, and it will tell you if the mouse is inside. I've caught a few in my day using a shoe box and some peanut butter when they get bold and come out right in front of me, but if you can't catch them live, just set the Tomcat traps and save yourself the anxiety lol.

      @@chelseacd That's awesome. If you find it, I feel, you just *immediately* have to act on it, before it becomes an even bigger problem (if there's 2, they breed!) and you need to get pest control; that's what you don't want.

      Just use a mouse trap. We had a problem in our garage a few years ago and they just keep coming back. I did a live trap first, but more make it into your house. They never stop! Or you could hire an exterminator.

    ugh I tried going the easier route when we had a mouse problem and just like overnight they took over. You just have to be brutal sometimes - We tried the live traps, the sound plug ins, then traps, we finally just had to get an exterminator.

    Have you thought about trying the Paula's Choice Retinol with Bakuchiol treatment? I love it because it's more gentle than the drunk elephant retinol but still very effective. The bakuchiol works with the lower strength retinol to be as potent as a high strength retinol but without the dry, peeling skin side effects that typically come with a higher strength formulation.

  • @pugskisses5974
    @pugskisses5974 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The DermStore carries SkinMedica retinol that comes in different strengths, if you want to stick to an over the counter retinol product. It’s OTC, so it’s obviously not exactly the same as the tret, but it’s the closest that I’ve found without going through your dermatologist. Another option is to use Curology. I’ve used prescription tret in the past, and I’d say that I like the Curology combo formula much better (it’s less drying/irritating for me).

    Hey Jessica, we just had a mouse issue and we had to resort to traps and it worked. It took care of it in a day and a half. The first thing you have to do though is find where they’re coming from, that’s the most important. Ours came from our gas fireplace, so my husband blocked the holes that they might’ve been coming through. The reason why I said came to my fireplace is because I physically saw a mouse come out of it. Eww, I know. My husband even came face-to-face with it, they both froze, it was funny.
    You can get cruelty free traps (which I’m sure you know) if your afraid of what the other ones do but we had no choice to do this as it destroyed our couch.
    Anyway it’s a frustrating thing to deal with and gave me so much anxiety and made me tear apart our house and clean/sanitize everything. Also they can be a big fire hazard.

    I had a mouse problem and used a humane mouse trap from Amazon and it worked SO fast. You put some peanut butter in the food slot, open the little house and wait, the door closes on their way in. Then release them far from your house so they don’t find their way back. I swear it has worked multiple times!

  • @onipot9639
    @onipot9639 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    seal entry points and get the humane traps - I lived in a student house with a garage door that didnt close properly, so mice would come through all the time - we had to fill the holes as much as a we could and then in the garage we set up a cute trap with some straw and food - so if they did get in again it would attract them and stop them going anywhere else
    ( its not ideal - as the scent potentially attracts them - but if they are already in your house it makes them go straight there rather than your food )

    • @onipot9639
      @onipot9639 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also get a sound wave deterrent - it wont upset Pinocchio, and they usually help get rid of them after a week ( especially in conjunction with a humane trap) as the sounds make them more active as they get stressed - thus meaning they are likely to go for your traps .
      all in all - it stresses them out but it doesn't harm them.
