Is the F18 really weight/fuel critical or is the air force pushing pilots to take less? If an airline flight was down to ten minutes remaining fuel, the captain and dispatcher would need to explain their planning and execution of the flight. There are so many regulations and safety policies to prevent airline flights from getting anywhere near emergency fuel. I have consistently heard from recent air force pilot retirees that the air force is pretty conservative safety wise so its a bit surprising to see so many recent recordings of fuel emergencies.
Older jets don't have equipment for RNAV of any type. No Navy/Marine jets are equipped for a civilian ILS. They have an ILS onboard, but it is tuned for a UHF frequency that is used by the carrier and not compatible with civilian ILS freqs. Very often the only approach available is the TACAN. That's why he was asking if they had a surveillance approach
@@AM-yb1ez Wrong answer. The right answer is "the pilot in command is ultimately responsible for the safe operation of the air vehicle." Why did the pilot allow the engines consume fuel past the safety margin?!
That's one of the best controllers I've ever heard in action. what a guy!!
Great controller. He is super professional
Agreed. I still would like to know how any pilot can run that low on fuel
That level of focus, problem solving, and competence is inspiring.
That controller deserves a presidential award
Absolutely
I am Thankful 😊
Why?
That controller should be flying the Hornet.....
Key takeaway: Photographic short term memory required in aviation

TACAN approach?? Shouldn’t he be shooting an ILS or an RNAV/ LPV?

Why did the F18 run out of fuel?
The fuel was consumed by the engines
