Absolutely 👏🏾👏🏾 when my stylist ask me bout trimming my ends and how we can do it in stages....I said "stages?!". I said "CUT WHAT NEEDS TO GO! she then said my hair will be very short. I then said "I am not my hair because if I was my hair she wouldn't be so disrespectful. HEALTH over length. 😉
Yes they teach you that in cosmetology school💕 I’ve watched a few hairstylist drop combs n I waited just too see if they picked it up n used it again ..., Definitely a big NO NO
Her hair instantly looked healthier & better after the trim! I get that it’s hard to let go of the length. I love getting trims. My hair frizzes less & my curls flourish after a trim!
Need more stylists like you-being honest and tell us what’s going on with our hair and how much needs to be cut. You also did a beautiful job on her hair.
You're right I recently had to get the big chop. I wore box braids for 8 weeks and they broke my hair off really bad. My stylist told me sorry you have to cut your hair I know have a short bob cut but it looks really healthy. Although my braids were beautiful.
As a hair stylist I like the way you think. Tbh it’s difficult trying to get people to trim their ends when in fact they know they’re hair is damaged, wearing weave should be optional.
Sam Willis Are you in Chicago? If not, I could use a stylist like you. I lost my dad and my hair hasn’t been the same. It is back thick but it’s a mess.
I'm so glad she mentions the consultation in this tutorial. People see stylists trimming or cutting hair and are quick to call them scissor happy. God forbid the client actually wanted a haircut or needed a deep trim. This client had paper thin ends that were only going to split and break higher and take out more of her hair. If the focus becomes health of hair first, length will soon follow and be maintained. Thank you for sharing!
Naia Kirra the hair looks like it really doesn’t have much length when it’s thin at the bottom like that. When she cut it, it looks like it actually had/has some length. A trim and a cut just look different.
I don't get why people don't take care of their ends and when it's time to cut it, they want to save that length. Girl if you don't get rid of them raggedy ends so your hair can grow faster and healthier.
Tbh, some people genuinely dont know how to take care of their ends or if ot would be beneficial to their hair. Its definitely a long process of education. Especially if you've always saw long hair as healthy hair.
Absolutely beautiful!! There is nothing like having a good stylist who cares about the client's hair health, and is patient and willing to explain the reasons for the cut. I have sat in too many chairs where I got an unexpected, unexplained big chop, and left very upset because no one stated what they were going to do, or why. And they deliberately said they were "trimming" and began cutting while creatively never letting me see what was being cut. Then after all is done, I walk out in a pixie cut.
You do beautiful work. I’m a White woman with thin, limp, dead straight hair. I have slaved over my hair since I was a teen. Girls with straight hair wanted curls, girls with curly hair wanted straight. We woman have had to suffer through chemical after chemical to get the look we want. She has a beautiful color hair. Nice job, looks great.
Nice to see a stylist interested in the health of the hair. My niece is a licensed cosmetologist who refuses to put perms on any of her clients hair. Most of her clients have been coming to her for 10-15 years and they ALL have very healthy hair - long and short. You did an awesome job on her hair!!
That’s good because the truth is you don’t need a perm to get straight hair, you have to go to someone who knows what they are doing, I’ve been perm free for over 10 years 😊
Them ends was DOA. Glad the decision was made to cut them off! Ladies never hold on to deadened hair, it’ll grown back more healthier than ever before! ✊🏾❤️

I just trimmed my hair. It’s probably not even but had to get rid of the see through. Looks so much better. I don’t wear my hair straight so who cares if it’s even. If/when I relax again I’ll worry about that
Rnjones2011 -I followed so many TH-camr’s urging people to trim their ends every other wash day 🙄. Needless to say, I saw no length retention. Almost none of them really tell you how to retain length, by specifically concentrating on treating the ends of your hair 😒. Endless product peddling or so many DIY’s, you know they can’t possibly be using regularly. The best tip was journaling my hair journey, documenting every product I’ve used and tracking my hair loss.
Gemin_Ice Thats why I love Indigenous Strands. She uses oils and flaxseed gels on her ends and has never had a trim. Her hair is thigh length (I think) I’ve been using her method and my ends have been staying healthy and full
I really love watching you do hair! You can tell she loves her job and she seems so happy which she should be helping others have better and healthier hair! I really need to book my flight to ATL. I’ll see you soon ♥️

Honestly this is the best way to go about it!! When people have damaged ends sometimes they just wanna cut it off "little by little" to "not lose too much length" not realizing you're risking losing even more length & causing more potential damage to the rest of your hair by not just cutting those bad ends off. I learned this from experience. If it's bad for you LET IT GO. Cut off bad ends, friends, relationships, jobs, habits, ALL THAT lol. But no seriously, this stylist did a great job!!
