Kathleen just wants to play with her Cat Commander deck, while James prepares for Draft Weekend. And he totally has a stone guy for Paul. Want more information on Draft Weekend? Visit magic.wizards.c...
Of course, but it's also about what the decks are built to defeat. I believe I was facing some version of Stoneblade back then (was a couple of years ago now or so), and while the Standard deck wouldn't be able to handle most matchups in Legacy, certainly nothing like Dredge or Storm, Stoneblade is one of those decks that is tuned to work against a Legacy field that contains those deck.^^
+tom magennis he only goes and curls up in the fetal postion when he gets asked to do another ten bad cards in magic the gathering which hey wedge still waiting for the next episode of that.
Canlander is Canadian Highlander. 100 card singleton format but they have a points system for some of the power cards. The idea is to try to ban as few cards as possible but still not have a busted outloud format.
All the in-jokes I could find, however esoteric: 0:20-0:29 could be a reference to "Zendikar Murder Mystery," where Alex ate a whole land station, but most likely just Cam being Cam. 0:37-1:00 in one of the Hero's Path episodes, Cam and Alex had a dispute about what constitutes a hydra, hence Cam's dismay at the prospect of a renewed conflict. 1:24 James's minus ability gives creatures trompoline, a mechanic invented by Paul's prototype RNN in "Here Be Dragons" (I think). 1:54 Kathleen is a long-time lover of cats, as seen in "It's Magic," "In Command," and others. 1:59-2:06 In "In Command," Kathleen had a cat-mander deck, also helmed by a non-cat. 4:43 one of the chats on the side is references Chad, the nickname for Gideon, as mentioned in "Guild Fight." 5:01-5:32 Jer set up a similar fake draft in "The Masters." 5:15 Gibb is a recurring character in the LRR universe, and made his FN debut in "Two Heads Are Better" as Graham's 2HG partner. 6:32-6:41 This one calls back all the way to "It's Magic," the cH prequel to Friday Nights. In that episode, Kathleen faced off against Alex and beat him easily, and in game two, she played Steppe Lynx and Alex immediately conceded, much as he does here. 6:57-7:17 In the stinger for "Two Heads Are Better," Gibb executes the Splinter Twin against Paul using broken Magic terminology, much as he does here.
It's also a reference to when we find out that jer's time spiral does work and alex has been trying to beat that deck over a million times and when he finally does he "rotates out of standard" and disappears
I'd crack up if he replaced Graham on a MTGO stream some week... Graham'd probably get a massive cramp in his arm operating him for several hours though.
Tolarian Community College prof they do it every month so in about a month i heard it from a video that they uploaded (ps i am subbed to you so if you respond it will be amazing)
I was literally just about to type this. Those devious bastards! :D (I actually got the reference anyway, but now it makes sense why they re-uploaded the old episode.)
UndertaleSkeleBros it goes all the way back to the "pilot" of Friday Nights. The Commodore Hustle episode titled "It's Magic". The crew actually just uploaded it to the TH-cam channel yesterday. It's a fun episode.
i don't want to spoil it for you, but go to Loading ready runs youtube channel and watch their recent upload "it's magic" it was the first video that lead to the friday nights series
Watch the very commodoreHustle episode "It's Magic". It originally ran on The Escapist but they uploaded it to the LoadingReadyRun youtube channel this week. It's basically the origin of this series.
On the plus side for him, if you find a way to make sure he gets at least one more loyalty counter on him the turn you play his planeswalker card, you would likely win instantly with his ultimate.
As much as I like LRR, Alex, are you aware that Wizards printed a Snake Hydra in Khans block? So this Snake-Hydra debate from Theroes should have been concluded in Khans
SO MANY MORE OF THESE!! Great that the cast has been upgraded to PW status. Also, I'm so glad that I watched the commodoreHUSTLE "it's magic". Great payoff! :) Wizards, keep supporting LRR!
This was the best one of these I'd seen in a while. The jokes actually made me laugh, and Missie's delivery on "Nope, it's bonkers" made me replay the scene. The camerawork was even stepped up a notch - doing the rack focus between Paul and Kathleen was noticeable. And the editing on the final "commander" game was sweet. Well done, folks.
Kathleen's Beta Plains should have instead been the same one that she used way back in "It's Magic", to further Alex's PTSD. (Scars of Mirrodin, Collector's Number 230)
The set that brings back Cycling has a Friday Nights episode that brings everything full circle. Thematic and flavorful. Definitely addable in the LRR Commander deck.
The references to prior episodes are hilarious. And the steppe lynx into nose bleed and concession was a really sleek reference to one of the earlier episodes.
As soon as Kathleen sat down across from Alex my brain was like "Hey, wait a minute..." and suddenly this callback has become the best callback. Thanks LRR!
It's back! Thanks for these awesome episodes guys! Real inspirations to smaller creators like ourselves. Keep up the great work and we look forward to meeting you some day when we are covering Magic events together!
It was mentioned that Gibb actually got the term for flying right when he was talking about bicycling his wasteland scorpinok, so may I recommend for the future: flapping
I just happened to get into magic two days after Amonkhet launched, and with my obsession with ancient egypt, this couldn't have been more perfect (and I already have two of the set's legendaries B) )
I saw this card over a week ago and it never even occurred to me that it was relevant to the snake hydra debate. How did I miss that? Also, the nosebleed totally sealed it for me. I almost missed the Gibbs part I was laughing so hard.
As always awesome. I would have been trippy if when Graham held up the computer it was a shot of Graham holding up the computer and on that computer....
I see LRR has ascended and become Planeswalkers now. Also, I totally know the slowness of drafting an entire table, although it's nice that since you know the packs ahead of time it speeds up decision processes [but makes it slightly more awkward to decide when to get off the current color or not]
The moment I saw the spoiler for Kitten of the Watch, I knew this was happening. I keep waiting to see a Cameron that reads: "When Cameron Lauder enters the battlefield, draw X cards, where X is the number of cards you want to draw."
So there are many wonderful things in this episode, but I'm just going to zero in on the one thing that makes my eye twitch, it's so deviously brilliant: WHY DOES GIBB SAY "FLYING"!?!
I love that Graham was editing the scene he was currently in.
Oh no, the coffee must never have worn off...or its ignited his spark and now he can always edit the scene he's in!
That's a seven-year-old callback. I'm impressed!
yes, on a different channel
The cycle is complete
This is a 7 year old comment!
"wanna play standard?"
"but i only have my legacy deck"
"yeah whatever, let's play"
who hasn't had this disussion?
My first ever game of constructed this guy lent me his standard(r/w vehicles) deck so i could play against his modern(infect) deck. Somehow i won...
Had and 3-0'd with Standard. Good games. :3
Turns out Legacy decks are really good at killing other Legacy decks, but not much else!
keep in mind that conclusion may be a little skewed by the quality of the player piloting that legacy deck =P
Having Graham working on the very scene Kathleen and him are currently in is so meta it made my head explode from joy.
I lost it at "sealed box of Eternal Masters".
TheManaSource And by "lost it," you of course mean "Curled up in the corner in the foetal position gibbering 'The Value, The Value.'"
+tom magennis he only goes and curls up in the fetal postion when he gets asked to do another ten bad cards in magic the gathering which hey wedge still waiting for the next episode of that.
TheManaSource what's canlandrr
Canlander is Canadian Highlander. 100 card singleton format but they have a points system for some of the power cards. The idea is to try to ban as few cards as possible but still not have a busted outloud format.
I trhought they couldn't top "3D print of Cam's face" but holy shit lol
All the in-jokes I could find, however esoteric:

4:43 one of the chats on the side is references Chad, the nickname for Gideon, as mentioned in "Guild Fight."
5:01-5:32 Jer set up a similar fake draft in "The Masters."
5:15 Gibb is a recurring character in the LRR universe, and made his FN debut in "Two Heads Are Better" as Graham's 2HG partner.

It's also a reference to when we find out that jer's time spiral does work and alex has been trying to beat that deck over a million times and when he finally does he "rotates out of standard" and disappears
Dude why
He uses jer's time spiral which starts the day over again which gets him stuck in a loop like groundhog day until he can beat Kathleen's kitty deck
Um Actually, pauls prototype was in “archfreinaimies”
+
We desperately need a video of "Gib plays the Magical Cards"
I'd crack up if he replaced Graham on a MTGO stream some week...
Graham'd probably get a massive cramp in his arm operating him for several hours though.
MostExaltedGoat
Hell, we should have a format called Gibbs Magic where you intentionally announce everything slightly wrong.
does Gibb miss Zipping in Pestermans?
He probably misses targeting Floundering Gideon with his Sweetandsour Rice
When's the next Friday Nights?
Well played sir.
Do they still make Friday Nights?
DAMMIT PROF
Tolarian Community College prof they do it every month so in about a month i heard it from a video that they uploaded (ps i am subbed to you so if you respond it will be amazing)
He probs knows, he is a huge LRR fan. You should just sub him anyway, his channel/content is great!
This episode has so many references to other episodes. love it. great episode
Care to list them? I noticed Gib. Step lynx was weird, but that got pointed out to me.
I love that the "work" Graham was doing was editing the scene he was in.
Let's all thank graham for breaking the 4th wall
Hopefully when Paula gets in touch with James's stone guy he can maybe probably fix it with some added improvements.
And Cameron for the window.
So that's why they reuploaded "It's magic" on their main channel. To remind people of the reference at the end with the Steppe Lynx
I dont get the reference anyway
Ahhhhhhhh get it :D
Never mind, i get it now.
Looollllll
I was literally just about to type this. Those devious bastards! :D
(I actually got the reference anyway, but now it makes sense why they re-uploaded the old episode.)
The punchline at the end was beautiful. Also, I want Paul's Planeswalker card to exist.
the inside jokes on this one are intense!
PartyEagle406 I loved the last one with the steppe lynx
whats the joke with the steppe lynx, i mean ok its a decent one drop but its not that powerful
I love that you have incorporated Paul being a mad scientist into Friday Nights.
Can Gibb be a permanent addition to the cast, please 🙏
He needs his own Planeswalker card in the intro.
Gibbs ftw!
Gibb came to life thanks to Paul's mana experiments.
I love Gibb so much!
I swear you do that and a new form of Magic called Gibb's Magic where you intentionally announce everything SLIGHTLY wrong will be popularized.
Wow an episode where both Alex and Cameron have PTSD from a previous MTG related probelm. And Alex is having PTSD from Commondore Hustle.
On the plus side for him, if you find a way to make sure he gets at least one more loyalty counter on him the turn you play his planeswalker card, you would likely win instantly with his ultimate.
Technically CH but also considered the start of Friday Nights.
Just play t3 Broath of Chad!
Or any proliferate. Alex is SO busted.

The camerawork was even stepped up a notch - doing the rack focus between Paul and Kathleen was noticeable. And the editing on the final "commander" game was sweet.
Well done, folks.
Graham is my favorite this episode. He has the best lines and delivers them excellently.
3:27 is SO meta I can't even
I saw it and burst out laughing. Amazing.
They're at now now. Everything that happens now is happening now.
Graham will break causality... Anything to get the video done faster.
Crapshot 200 - The Edit
Kathleen's Beta Plains should have instead been the same one that she used way back in "It's Magic", to further Alex's PTSD. (Scars of Mirrodin, Collector's Number 230)
Kathleen finally getting some good upgrades for the cat deck makes me so happy! best episode yet
My only problem with the opening bit is that we've had a Snake Hydra before.
3:26 I love the subtle humour that Graham is working on editing the discussion they're literally having at the moment lol
I love how many references there are to past Friday Nights. It makes it rewarding to any of us who've stuck around for a while.
Whoa! Graham has on-board repeatable Ashnod's Coupon as a -1?! Busted!!
Yeah, but unlike Ashnod's Coupon, it doesn't have a sick combo with R&D's Secret Lair.
wait....was graham editing that very moment???
I think he was and if so, broke the 4th wall!!! i love it!!
Oh all these throwbacks!
Dont we all need a stone guy. When Graham shows he is working he is working on the the current episode. Chefs kiss.!
I haven't watched an episode in over a year; first thing is a reference to an episode I remember.
Great work as ever folks! And the callbacks were absolutely sublime :-)
AHHHHH, thats why you guys reuploaded the first friday nights last week ^^
The set that brings back Cycling has a Friday Nights episode that brings everything full circle.
Thematic and flavorful. Definitely addable in the LRR Commander deck.
Great call back to lynx. Thanks for reposting the original so I understood too.
The references to prior episodes are hilarious. And the steppe lynx into nose bleed and concession was a really sleek reference to one of the earlier episodes.
I think became happy for the first time in weeks when this was posted.
"it doesnt have the words 'cant be countered' on it, so i dont see it as a problem" Cam predicted the carnage tyrant confirmed
Still love these videos years later :] they keep me in magic
Okay, the new Planeswalker cards for the crew were HILARIOUS, I had to get my breathing back before watching the rest of the video. :D
This video is so great.
As are you two
All r
As soon as Kathleen sat down across from Alex my brain was like "Hey, wait a minute..." and suddenly this callback has become the best callback. Thanks LRR!
I love the call backs to the other episodes, it just makes the series seem a little more real.
So THAT's why you reposted the first video! It all makes sense now. Great one guys.
I love that Graham appears to be editing the scene that is actually occurring at that moment.
Also, the list of threads is amazing.
It's back! Thanks for these awesome episodes guys! Real inspirations to smaller creators like ourselves. Keep up the great work and we look forward to meeting you some day when we are covering Magic events together!
Through the whole first segment I was thinking "Poor Hooded Hydra"
i think the hydra freak out was probably the greatest thing ever. You can see the gears in his head going into melt down
Hay, Does anyone know if LRR is still making Friday Nights? I haven't seen one in like 30 seconds, I'm very concerned.
It was mentioned that Gibb actually got the term for flying right when he was talking about bicycling his wasteland scorpinok, so may I recommend for the future: flapping
I love that Graham is editing The Scene They Are Acting Out At That Moment :)
Amazing episode. Great callback. Also I continue to love the Gibb pseudo-magic speak. It's awesome.
What a great episode!!!! Loved every bit. Keep up the great work!!
Loved this episode. I loved all the call backs. Also, love their Slack channels.
Yes! At last after months of waiting, a new episode! And wow did this have a lot of references.
The scene Graham is editing ... Broke me. So good. So very good.
This is the best episode in a long time. Good ol' magic jokes
Alex Steacy confirmed broken with Oath of Gideon.
The Caracal bit was actually genius. I'm back to this vid just for it.
"Some times I do work? Why? Primarily so I get my magic cards" is the most repeatable thing I have ever hired in my life.
Woah, that establishing shot was so smooth and fancy!!
This was just great! It has throwbacks and Gibb! James' draft hits too close to home, though he deserved it for being a morning monster! :)
Its been a while since i have seen one of these. Nice to see them again.
OK, I LEGIT lost it when Gibb proclaimed "in REPLY..."😆😂🤣😆
I fucking love how Paul was the last one to get into Magic, then made it to the Pro Tour, and now he's the eccentric genius/madman of the group.
As a proud alligator wrasltin creature of Louisiana, it warms my heart to hear folks from Canada know what Craklin is.
I just happened to get into magic two days after Amonkhet launched, and with my obsession with ancient egypt, this couldn't have been more perfect (and I already have two of the set's legendaries B) )
That Steppe Lynx callback is one of my favourite things.
The Cameron planeswalker card in the intro was hilarious.
I saw this card over a week ago and it never even occurred to me that it was relevant to the snake hydra debate. How did I miss that?
Also, the nosebleed totally sealed it for me. I almost missed the Gibbs part I was laughing so hard.
Whenever graham says master thief, I just hear, "YOULL NEVER SEE IT COMING!"
Kathleen: Plays steppe Lynx
Alex: *Has nam flashbacks
So happy to see Friday Nights again!
As always awesome. I would have been trippy if when Graham held up the computer it was a shot of Graham holding up the computer and on that computer....
Alex's Planeswalker card is the best thing I have ever seen haha
Paul's ultimate being an "Enter the Dungeon"-lite seems on point.
Oh I lolled So hard. Poor Alex. There's Magic all up in this Kitty!
Love the references to older stuff of theirs!
Man, apart from being unable to correctly name any of the cards or mechanics, Gib is exceptionally good at the Magical Cards.
The flashback references are funny, call back to the theros snake hydra debate and a reference to the origin from commodore hustle
I see LRR has ascended and become Planeswalkers now.
Also, I totally know the slowness of drafting an entire table, although it's nice that since you know the packs ahead of time it speeds up decision processes [but makes it slightly more awkward to decide when to get off the current color or not]
i love the callback to the original episode and the Angry Kitties deck, Poor Alex
Gib is very good at the magical cards with all his double double counters and bicycles
Anybody notice how powerful Alex steacy the planswalker is if you have a proliferate card
I love love love this guys and gals ! the end such a throw back !
The moment I saw the spoiler for Kitten of the Watch, I knew this was happening.
I keep waiting to see a Cameron that reads: "When Cameron Lauder enters the battlefield, draw X cards, where X is the number of cards you want to draw."
THAT WAS SUCH A GOOD THROWBACK OMFG
Here we are thinking the guy is crazy playing a game with inanimate objects and lo and behold the muppet talks!
... wasn't there a snake hydra in Tarkir?
Alex is a two card combo with oath of Gideon. No wonder he thinks Chad is so fun to be with.
So there are many wonderful things in this episode, but I'm just going to zero in on the one thing that makes my eye twitch, it's so deviously brilliant:
WHY DOES GIBB SAY "FLYING"!?!
THAT INSIDE JOKE AT THE END KILLED ME
kathleen: steppe lynx. alex: I concede.
Alex's planeswalker card actually made me laugh.
This episode gets an A+ for the Nessian Asp callback joke
You know you can find the real OGs if you say "Plains, Steppe Lynx" and get screams of terror.
Wow that steppe lynx joke at the end took me way back
man they really love their new wide angle.
hahahaha, that call back to the steppe lynx video. so badass.
