  • Toyota Celica 4WD Training Video
    Video describes the operation of the differential/LSD system in 4WD Celicas.
    The described viscous system also applies to the later ST185 and ST205 Celicas.

    I'm talking about late 80~90's emissions stuff. For instance the Celica from 1982~1985 in japan had turbo models. In the US only the 22R truck motor. Or the Nissan 240SX, we never got a SR20DET or CA18DET, yet we got the crummy KA20. There are tons like it, but you get the picture. It's a bit different now since it makes business sense to make cars meet CA emission standards, but back then they didn't. Toyota even had a special designation on their engines for CA emissions.

    Yea 1986 was the first AWD Celica for the states, they stopped after the 5th generation Celica and didn't import other 4WD version afterwards. They also had All-trac Camry's and Tercels from the late 80's to mid 90's.

      seeing this idk why you would ever want the diff lock off?

    • @sigmaprojects
      @sigmaprojects 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bigmikeobama5314 Probably has to do with fuel economy and maybe some binding a bit, probably why they use a viscous diff.

    It's mostly because most people don't care about AWD in the US. Only in the colder areas of the country and even then they're a lot of them that don't want to pay the premium. There are still AWD Toyota's, but mostly SUVs and Trucks. They do also import IS250s and IS350s with AWD. Japan doesn't import a lot of sports cars to the US. Nissan and Honda also stopped importing various cars to the US after the late 90's. A lot has to do with our higher emission standards.

      Alltrac is also European Market Japan built 2000 models before mass production to rest of car markets. I should know as I have a very early original and one later European model ....identifiable by the plastic body kit and a viscous centre diff . Only first 2000 models had the mechanical centre diff lock
