This video was quite useful indeed. I had a similar problem during my US visit. Visited several banks and they refused to open personal bank account without SSN.
After several tries I made it, but it was not as easy as I hoped :)
They opened an account for me, but with some limitations. The online banking is disabled for example. They told me there is some Law about preventing money laundering and financing of the terrorist organizations, so that is the main reason for such limitations.
It was 2-3 years ago. Good to know it is possible to doit all online nowadays :)

It's still like that in brick and mortar banks. And Wise and a couple of others are the only ones that will do it but you still have some limitations.
