Amanda has been out of the industry for a while because of legal issues, from what I understand but as of this last month, she is back performing and sounding incredible. A natural talent.
Amanda Marshall is back. Just did a Canadian tour, it was a fantastic show in Vancouver. June and July 2023. New album. Her incredible voice is better than ever. (Which is why i was led here, back in time, thank you Mr. Sklar)
I first started hearing about Amanda Marshall when she was still a teenager, already wowing crowds with her vocal performances at Grossman's Tavern on Spadina Avenue in Toronto. It's wonderful to see her back doing shows, and with a new album. What a voice.
Thanks for this video Lee. This song changed the direction of my life. I was living in Birmingham and on a flight to Ft. Lauderdale for a job interview. I hated the thought of leaving Birmingham…. I plugged headphones into the armrest of the plane and this song came on. Had never heard of Amanda before….. I took it that this was a sign I should stay in Birmingham so I declined the job offer and stayed. Bought her album and it remains one of my favorites. Excellent album.
I always wish Amanda would have made more music. She could have been one of the biggest names ever...I think she is THAT good! Such a talent! So thank you very much for sharing this with us!
Hello, Leland. We Canadians say Thank You and We Love You!!! All of us around the world are enjoying your daily posts and this brings us all together in harmony. This channel is entertaining and informative and for we musicians, a treasure trove of musical wisdom and insight. 🌞
Thanks for the kind words about my homeland Lee. I'm a proud Canuck who really enjoys these videos. I remember "Birmingham" well from the radio. Great song with a great story.
Thanks for this one, Lee. Amanda is such a talent! Just this evening I was trying to find out who the session musicians were on this song and there you were! So glad you made this video for us. The bass you played in this is an exquisite work of art! Stay well.
Lee, this is such a wonderful song, and your bass accompaniment makes it twice as good! Thanks again for your great videos (several of which are in my playlist)
OOOOO. YUSSS!!! Tânisi/ᑖᓂᓯ!!! Greetings n salutations from Saskatchewan to you!! I absolutely love Amanda Marshall, she holds many sentimental memories, so this was such a treat. She reminds me of my mother Paula back in the late 90s and early 2000s when we lived in Estevan, SK. She would sing her songs to me in the car and dance in our old living room with the music videos on our tube TV. Amanda reminds me of October, being a child in my overalls, being in pumpkin patches, or parks by my home, picking flowers and leaves from the ground to make bouquets 💐😭💗 You are very much appreciated. Have a wonderful day. Mistahi kinanâskomitin kîsiskâciwan ohcî/ᒥᐢᑕᐦᐃ ᑭᓇᓈᐢᑯᒥᑎᐣ ᑮᓯᐢᑳᒋᐘᐣ ᐁᐦᒌ᙮ 💖🇨🇦🙏🏼
She still does! She played a festival in my area a couple years back, and wowzers. I don't know if it was the benefit of experience or something, but not only was she in shape vocally, she may have actually been better than in that era. I was there with several vocalists and we were all blown away that she was so damn strong after all these years.
I've had this Amanda Marshall since it came out in 1995. Still listen to it to this day. Whatever happened to her? Such a strong strong voice and talent
I didn’t know you and Tim played on that record. Amanda is one of my all time favorite singer/performer. It’s such a shame that for whatever reason we don’t get to be moved by her talent anymore. Her records never get old and what a great live show. Come back Amanda!!!!!
I love Amanda Marshall and when I sold music for Sony Music in the Mid-Atlantic region, I was hoping that the Epic label would have worked harder to break her in the United States. Sadly, she only had the this one tune that reached the charts here. It was great meeting her when she did a promotional tour.
Given your history in music, these visits with you is like jumping into a time machine. Again, thank you for your incredible generosity! Stay home...stay safe...save lives!

@ Kennon Moen yeah stay home and wait till you get forced vaccination's and a microchip. Fucking idiot do some research you're being played.
I love that Amanda Marshall album. I had no idea it was you playing on that. I loved the whole thing, but "Last Exit to Eden" was another highlight. 👍 I'd love to have you as a guest on my show, Leland.
I wanted to come back and thank you for reminding me of Amanda Marshall!! Elton John talked about her years ago & I decided to check her out. She blew me away! I've pulled out the 2 cd's I have and checked her out on you tube. So happy I recently came across your videos. You are living such a fascinating life. I have to confess, I'd love to get my fingers in your beard. Looks so soft..........
Hey Leland. Darrin here from Toronto. Thanks for giving us Canadians a shout out. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Amanda Marshall's first album. I played that CD so many times when it came out. Still one of my favs. Not one bad song on there even mediocre. Your bass playing is phenomenal as well.
Wish I lived in Toronto. Been there on holiday many times including seeing the mighty Rush in concert more than once! I'm from the UK but really love your city! Wanna swap?!
Thank you for your wise kind words. It’s comforting to know there are people like you out there. Not full of yourself even though you are accomplished.
Thank you for featuring a Canadian artist!! I wish Amanda would release another album. It was rumoured that she was working on one a few years ago. Maybe you should come up north and tell her to get her butt in gear!!???! 😃😃😃😃 Thanks for making our days as shut ins a lot more enjoyable, Lee. As the kids around here say: You da man!! Stay safe and healthy! 😷😷😷😷😷
Chiming in from Canada. Thank you for the national shout out. Your stories and music are amazing! Thank you for sharing and giving us a glance into your world. I'm just getting into bass more seriously and your holistic approach is inspiring!
Being a child of the 90s’, and being from Ontario Canada myself, this song certainly holds a place in my childhood memories, as well as others off this album. This tune in particular was in regular rotation for a long time here in Canada. I had no idea that you played on it. I had the chance to open for Amanda a couple of years back in Toronto, and she is still sounding great. Being a guitarist with a large stylistic influence I have truly enjoyed all of these videos. Love the concept and really appreciate you taking the time to do this!
All the best from Germany! Love the calmness, debth and inspiration I get out of your daily videos. There is so much happening on the planet but this gives a few minutes of peaceful minds. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us!
Holy crap, I was listening to “Birmingham” when I got the notification for this video! I’ve been an Amanda Marshall fan for years! Thank you so much for this! You, sir, are amazing.
And of course Geddy Lee...I’m born and raised in Canuckland’s capital of Ottawa. Amanda, well what can you say, I literally feel she is the best singer of all time❣️
Well now. I had not previously been aware of ms. Marshall. Based on this video I went and streamed her album. God, I love the Internet. I never know how great music will come to me. God bless.
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate not only the time you take to continue to bring us these songs and stories, but your shout outs and well wishes. You once mentioned going to Trader Joe’s, well I work in one in the Seattle area. It warms my heart to hear your concern for people like us. Thank you. Also, thanks for the Amanda Marshall song! I absolutely love that album. Bought it when it first came out and I still listen to it regularly. What an amazing and powerful voice she has! I look forward to these videos every day, and to see who you’ll be playing next. Thanks again for doing this! Please continue to take care of yourself. Be safe and be well.
I can describe your channel in one word... “organic”. Thank you again for pulling back the curtain and dropping some new knowledge on your experiences and approaches to both music and life.
Phenomenal song! When I first heard that on the radio it made me have to buy the cd. That didn't happen much post 91 or 92. Thanks for the great bass lines.
Oh that warmth makes you want to dive into the music and swim lengths as it washes over you. I now find when i listen to music I am listening for the bass lines...so thank you for opening up our musical appreciation, it is a great education.
That song has gone straight into my playlist! Thanks for the tip. Excellent. And thanks so, so much for this channel. Such a smart and calming influence in these very hard times and all while watching one of the great musicians sharing your musical knowledge. You, sir are also one of the heroes of these times. And hi from 🇦🇺
BTW...I can actually attest to what a truly nice and humble man Lee is. In 2015, a bunch of musician friends attended the NAMM show in Anaheim. As we’re all walking to the food trucks to grab chow, I see and a friend walking by. Since we were just talking about Lee at breakfast, I told my friends that Lee had just walked by. One of my friends, hearing this, bolts for Lee (as I’m saying “no Roger...don’t do that...leave him alone”)...but, he walked right up to Lee, and says “hi...I’m Roger...I’m a music educator, and a big fan.Sorry to bother you, but I just wanted to say hello”. Well, Lee stood there for about 5 minutes about the importance of music education...not once did he act perturbed in the slightest. And, he thanked Roger for doing what he does..then shook hands, and walked away with his friend. We have many “NAMM Stories”..but that was one of the best, that we still talk about years later. So humble and friendly. Again, Lee....thank you, and God bless.
Thank you leland for playing this by Amanda, she is one of my favorite sunday morning coffee artists early in the morning as i start my week, persuing the news and begin my day.. cheers

These persons are Angel's and I love the way each day you pay tribute to them I salute you .carry on Lee your amazing .
I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to have found your TH-cam channel. I’ve been grooving on your stuff since the Billy Cobham days, so it’s evident I’m not a kid! But I just got the biggest smile on my face to find out you layed down the bass tracks for Birmingham! I’m afraid to say, all these years and I didn’t realize that was you! And the fact it was THE ONE SONG that would calm our then-infant daughters colic, well, you KNOW we played that song a lot! She turns 30 next week and still likes the song, though she might not fully understand why. But now I know it was in part because of you, and of course, that voice of Amanda Marshall. I can’t wait to show this video to my wife when she awakens tomorrow. I’m sure it will give her the same deep feeling of joy (and a bit of nostalgia) it gave me. And my apologies for overlooking your contribution for so long! Thank you!
It‘s 1am, but b4 I got to bed I have to see your latest vid. No way to miss it ! Thanx so much for all the work you have done and do since weeks. Simply GREAT..... pls think about running for president ! The world would be a much better place !
What a delight to hear your stories & listen to you play. I’m amazed you can rattle off the names of so many people you’ve worked with over your long career. That’s nothing compared to the countless lives you’ve touched playing music, though. Thank you!
Great song.I've been working on a new version of this track for the last three weeks in my little studio in Perth.Wish i had you playing bass on it.Love your work!
I have made a list of canadian artists in music to show a friend of mine that he is mistaken saying .."what Canadian musicians are known"...? From Oscar Peterson ...to Neil Young ...to Rush ...to Alanis..to Michael Bubble and many many more. Thanks Leland I have another great singer to add. BTW, I love the sound of that 5 string when you touch her...
Looking forward to 2 a.m my time when you upload the next video, I stay awake just for that. Your videos are the best thing on youtube an, in general, the best show. Watching you play, the sound, the sensitivity - it's magic. Thanks for this generous, wonderful gift.
I remember Black Velvet, cool groovy song. Canada is home to my favorite band, RUSH. And a bunch of others of course.... Triumph, April Wine, The Guess Who, etc. Geddy Lee is a beast! You know, one thing I've noticed about you, sir....is that you are so damn smooth with you movement across the fretboard. So impressive. Stay safe!!
Love that song! Perfect bass work too! Thank you so much for your videos, and taking the time to share your life and talent with us all. God bless, and stay safe.
Everyone knows what a virtuoso Leland is, as well as a truly nice guy. But these videos show that that he’s quite funny and witty. We all need to be cheered up in these times...keep it up, Lee...and, thank you so much.
Hi from England, I’ve just bought my first bass at the age of 56 and I’m learning to play in lockdown. Thank you for taking the time to share your stories and songs with us all, you are truly inspirational. Take care and stay safe. Malcolm
Hello Mr. Sklar - Greetings from Toronto. Thanks so much for posting this and thank you for your kind words about Canada. I had the great opportunity to tour this record for a couple of years upon it's release. Amanda is, in my opinion, an incredible talent. What a privilege it was learning and recreating Mr. Aronoff's parts from the recordings as well as trying to, and hopefully succeeding, in setting up the pocket these tunes require. Your performances on this record are just wonderful! Thank you for all your wonderful work and these awesome postings. We have all learned so much from you. Regards, Charlie
I LOVE AMANDA MARSHALL!!!!! Amazing voice, energy and song writing!!!!! Let It Rain and Birmingham are the first songs I heard from her! I fell in love at that point. Have been a huge fan ever since....
Leland, you've done so many sessions I'd have thought you'd forget Amanda. So cool to see her featured in your series. And a great subtle-but-smart bass line. These videos are such a joy to watch. Thanks so much.
Hi Leland, greetings from Ontario! Been loving the videos, stories and the bass playing! They've been one of the big drivers for me getting back into playing bass consistently again after a ~3 year hiatus, and your stories are always fun and/or heartwarming!
Amanda has been out of the industry for a while because of legal issues, from what I understand but as of this last month, she is back performing and sounding incredible. A natural talent.

All over muchmusic in the mid 90s ❤
Amanda is such a great storyteller. Could listen to her for days. The fact you are playing makes it even better.
Never knew you were on this. All time favorite!!!
I always wish Amanda would have made more music. She could have been one of the biggest names ever...I think she is THAT good! Such a talent! So thank you very much for sharing this with us!
This Amanda Marshall record is pure gold. We played „Let It Rain“ with our band these days. I've loved it every time.

Amanda Marshall had one of the most sexy, sultry voices of any singer I've heard. That album was awesome.
She still does! She played a festival in my area a couple years back, and wowzers. I don't know if it was the benefit of experience or something, but not only was she in shape vocally, she may have actually been better than in that era. Jus recently she came back baby! Check out her acoustic version of this song... hasn't lost a step.
I've had this Amanda Marshall since it came out in 1995. Still listen to it to this day. Whatever happened to her? Such a strong strong voice and talent
My favourite 90’s album. You’re right, the whole album was fabulous. Canada 🇨🇦 does have a great music scene.
What's not to like ? Lee's playing long notes and low c's and d's, Sheryl Crow-like voice and a soprano sax. Just great.
Yeah that soprano sax takes the song to another level.😮😊
I didn’t know you and Tim played on that record. Amanda is one of my all time favorite singer/performer. It’s such a shame that for whatever reason we don’t get to be moved by her talent anymore. Her records never get old and what a great live show. Come back Amanda!!!!!
Grandissimo e mitico Leland ❤️🎹🎻
Love this song and all of Amanda's work.

Check out Amanda's new acoustic version that came out last year or so! She is back baby.
I bought that album from Amanda Marshall when it first came out. Love it, and the bass playing is just perfect.
This is the song that hooked me on Amanda. 👍👍👍😁
She jus made a comeback recently... check out her recent version with acoustic.
I love that Amanda Marshall album. I had no idea it was you playing on that. I loved the whole thing, but "Last Exit to Eden" was another highlight. 👍 I'd love to have you as a guest on my show, Leland.
By the way...loved you playing along to this tune on your post !!!
I wanted to come back and thank you for reminding me of Amanda Marshall!! Elton John talked about her years ago & I decided to check her out. She blew me away! It is such a joy to watch one of the MASTERS do what he does .
Thank you man from someone who has been a fan since the early 70’s.
This post is one I missed, so I'm catching up with all the hip cats!
Thank you Leland, once again! I never heard of this Canadian artist: her voice sounds soo relaxed...!
One of the best records with female singer ever! And full of sensational basslines
Hey Leland.
Darrin here from Toronto. Thanks for giving us Canadians a shout out.

My thoughts exactly 💕
Yeah Amanda Marshall. Geat artist. I love that rock ballad of her . "Beautiful goodbuy". Great bass playing Leland. You make me smile.
LeLand, this is wonderful. Please do more from the Amanda Marshall record. Thank you!!
When you said you had one in the window my mind immediately went to the movie "Psycho."
Awesome stuff Leland. Beautiful Goodbye from that album has an amazing vocal performance. What a rhythm section with you and Kenny.
Thanks for making our days as shut ins a lot more enjoyable, Lee. As the kids around here say: You da man!! Stay safe and healthy! 😷😷😷😷😷
I hope you do Dark Horse as well, one of the greatest tracks of the 90's, just like this one. Thank you for this!
It's late here in England, Leland .... but I'm hypnotised - listening to a legend. So glad I found your channel.
LOVE THIS ONE!!! Amanda Marshall has a voice that stops me from what I'm doing and makes me listen. :-) Thank you uncle Leland!

Thank you for sharing all your knowledge and stories!!
Love Amanda Marshall and love this song.

Malcolm
Québec salutes you, Leland!
That safety man! He won everything. Made my day. Thank you, Lee! 😁🤣😂
Nice sop sax. What a treat. Thanks for the Introduction to this fine singer!
Hello from Montréal Canada, thank you so much Lee for sharing such great memories of your brilliant career. Take great care. 👍
These videos have become a daily highlight, a daily "medicine" in a way, in these weird times! Thank you so much!
Love that AM album. The bass part for Birmingham glues it all together. Thanks for this video.
