  • Time for a new glaze experiment!
    In this video I'm doing the bubble glaze technique with regular glazes, instead of underglazes.
    I've never tried it before and don't know it it works, so let's find out together!
    I'm showing the final results in the end ;)

    I really liked the subtle colours. Very cool technique (although difficult to get consistent).

    I'm with group of Senior potter's, we do slab work & are hoping you'll share a few more slab projects please.
    A "slab" mug technique would be wonderful.
    I love your videos...your instructions are SO easy to follow.

    looks great pre-fired. Fired is underwhelming. Can you bubble underglaze and clear glaze that?

    Great video, they are beautiful! You mentioned that your kiln was in another room and it was very cold in there. I am hoping to put a kiln in my shed but and not sure if I can fire up a kiln when it is in a cold shed and the weather drops to -25. Can a kiln be ran in a cold room? Really enjoy your videos, looking forward to seeing more!

    • @caldervanandel
      @caldervanandel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much! My kiln room was about 2 degrees celsius at that moment. So quite cold, but not as cold as -25. I not sure, but I don't think the cold is a problem for the kiln, but a high humidity might be a problem.

    Hi again Calder, I've noticed you use the Celadon & Potters Choice glazes, which we also use, but can I ask "what brand" of clear glaze you're using over the bubble glaze to make the items food safe?
    Thank you so much, we're planning on trying your bubble glaze technique. 👍☺️

      Hi! I use zinc free clear glaze from Amaco. Have fun trying! I would also recommend to try it with underglazes :))

    Hi! It’s me again
    I tried the bubble effect and it didn’t quite come out like yours… I like them anyways. 😊
    My question is (I probably already asked some other time) in this vid you apply glaze or under glaze to the pieces before bubbling ?
    If it’s glaze, then I reckon the bubble mixture is glaze too?
    So in this case you don’t have to apply a clear glaze before firing?
    It seems in another vid you have used “underglaze” for the bubbling and then clear glaze in the end
    I have to go to Ceradel at 2 pm today to buy some clay and would like to get some material for the bubble glazing…
    It would be great to get a response from you before I get to Ceradel
    Thanks a million 😊

      This video is a variation on the bubble glaze technique. Normally I use underglaze with a clear glaze on top of it. In this video I just tried it out with regular glazes, to see if it worked. With the regular glazes I indeed didn't use a clear glaze. I personality prefer to use underglazes, but you could try both if you'd like :)

      Thanks Calder for your response, I will def try with glaze… I have a golden glaze and then I will add a clear glaze :)

      Hi hi🙃 Dankjewel! Ik heb wel gemerkt dat als je wat bubbels in de beker blaast en dan roert met het rietje je veel kleine gekleurde bellen in de beker krijgt die je er zo met je hand uit kunt scheppen, misschien kun je dat proberen :)

    Could you add two tablespoons of glaze to the mix for a darker bubble?

    • @caldervanandel
      @caldervanandel  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That will make the lines of the bubbles a bit darker, but it also makes the space in between the bubbles darker, which I'm not a big fan of😅
