  • Pouring with regular glazes: • Pouring Glazes On Pott...
In this video I take you with me on the process of trying out pouring with underglazes. I used glazes from Amaco and Botz, but you can of course do this technique with any other glaze as well. In the end we open the kiln together and we have a look at the final results!

Hoi Calder. Ik ben helemaal verslaafd aan jouw filmpjes. Ik moet nu eerst flink aan het kleien om van alles uit te kunnen proberen. Dank je wel voor alle inspiratie.

Hi Calder....honestly loved every piece, even with the pinholes! I normally do not make bowls, but you've given me some inspirations to make them! Thanks! Best Regards from Holmdel, NewJersey, USA

Hey Calder, this was a really interesting experiment. I think maybe the one that you were least fond of was because you used colours that where opposite on the colour wheel e.g. Red and Green. When these colours are used together they cancel each other out and cause muddy brownish finish ......although this too could be a desired effect ? Years of hair styling and colouring has been useful for painting and glazing pots but i'm just in my first year of learning Pottery! I love all your ideas 💓

That is so cool! Yes I know about the colour wheel, but I kinda hoped the colours would make each other stronger and make them pop, but they indeed became a bit brownish. Thank you so much!!🙌🏻

Amazing, thanks for your tips ✨
Do you do the underglaze after or before the first firing?🙃

As a former pour painter you may want to try a base first on the surface. The colors moving is what makes those effects. We always did a base on the canvas so it wouldn't stick as bad. And roll over each other.

Good try....may be better with large plate. It is a big challenge and technic of marbling.

Leuk zeg. Zal ik zeker eens proberen. Conclusie... Mixen met water is ok, maar niet teveel water zodat de kleuren goed uitkomen en het blenden mooi verloopt. Ik test dit zodra ik terug ben uit reis. Bedankt voor je weeral interessante video. 🏖️ Grtjes uit Spanje

I have never tried this technique before, but I read that you can use glycerin to change/improve the consistency of underglaze, perhaps this is something you can try in further experiments, maybe it will help with the marbling effect?
I have also seen that it is possible to use underglaze on greenware, maybe the pottery is too "thirsty" and so it absorbs the liquid too fast, maybe experiment with greenware and see if it improves the effect, i also thought that perhaps putting one coat of white on the bisque potter first, it might have a more clear result. I would love to see a follow up of your experiments with these techniques.

Did you put matt or shiny clear glaze over the underglaze. . Love your experiments with colours, thanks NZ.

Could you use a blow dryer/hairdryer to pop the air bubbles as in fluid art. Just a suggestion. Love your work and presentation. Thank you.

    • @caldervanandel
      @caldervanandel  ปีที่แล้ว

I think that will only make the glaze dry faster, so I don't think it'll work because the glaze is quite a bit ticker, but you can always try of course! Thank you :)

Beautiful glazing techniques. Have you done the same for the outside of the plate? Thank you for your inspiration.

Thank you! I have not, but it would probably work the same. There will be some glaze that drips off of it though

I have never tried this, I'm not sure what will happen when the clear glaze blends with the regular glaze, but you could always try :)
