doing the repair is not dangerous .typical.misinformation.....the dangerous aspect is why is there a pin hole?..was it punctured or is tank insided rusted real bad and steel getting paper thin?...if rusted and paper thin then it could be dangerous using the tank.
No it's not going to turn into a bomb. At worst, the JB weld will fail and your tank will leak again through the small hole. Remember, every air compressor should have an over-pressure relief valve that will let the air out of the tank should the pressure rise too high if for example the pressure shut-off switch fails.
@@todddecker8698 If the metal thins out enough to leak , it could potentially explode under normal pressures. Overpressure and a compromised tank are two completely different things. A relief valve is a backup safety device in the event the regulator switch fails or the tank is somehow heated. In either case, the tank exceeds its normal operating pressure, activating the relief valve. A compromised tank has the potential to explode and needs to be replaced. How you conflated those two things is mind boggling and dangerous.
Patching holes in a compressor tanks is dangerous specifically any hole on any place not at the bottom back drain where water accumulates. It is very thin metal and a hole like this means the tank could burst under high pressure sending basically knives in all directions. "Tanks Have Burst After Patching With Serious Results". Just buy a new tank or compressor.

It is time to buy a new air compressor.
Definitely.
How often do you do this? I’ve read it’s dangerous…
I did it once. I’d recommend replacing the air compressor rather than patching a hole. The JB Weld lasted about 6 months with minimal use.

Yes, that’s the best option.
