I remember Levi was interviewed on NPR?, perhaps 20 years ago, and he was asked if he had ever thought about being a solo artist, instead of being simply a member of a group. I can't remember his exact words...but it was something like, 'They are my brothers and the thought of leaving never entered my mind.'
I attended Levi Stubbs' funeral and I think it was Obie Benson's son who got up and spoke about what it was like to have a Four Top for a father and the other three Four Tops as "uncles". When the kids messed up, they'd get four times the scoldings and admonitions. But when the kids excelled, they'd have four times the praise showered on them.
I've ❤ed the Fours since the mid 60's, when an older brother played the 45, Reach Out, every morning before school for about 3 years. I've enjoyed music over the years and I categorize 'Bernedette' & 'Standing in the Shadows of Love' as an operatic aria in the vein of Puccini.
no autotune. no lipsync. no scenography. no background dancers. no effects. no recorded instruments. no depressing lyrics nor complicated lyrics. just pure talent. and it's more amazing than any of the performances today
They've had background dancers before, on "Just Ask The Lonely". And they appeared to be all white girls. Pretty sure that Levi didn't appreciate that. He was quite defiant at times. ♊️ 🕊 🎶
The four most classy, artistically sound quartet in the history of music... No one Top was better than the other. IMO Levi was the man, his passion, singing, set the tone for a great performance. Performed 40 years together which is a rarity until LP (Lawrence Peyton) died in 1997, Obie would follow a few years later and Levi's velvet smooth voice silenced forever in 2008. God blessed each of the guys with a gift and they gave that gift back to millions of fans.
This is just timeless…Levi’s vocals…the totally unchoreographed dancing…the pure soul…the enjoyment…the effortless euphoria…the little bits not in the original version like “each heartache lasts a little longer” ❤️❤️❤️🎉
Such great music of all time.Still have records,albums,8-track tapes,cassettes,& now Cd's.Best music ever.Todays youngsters need to pay attention to their words.All love & embrace it universally.

If anything it was probably easier to make money from music back in the 1960s, when people were still buying millions of records every week. Most musicians aren't exactly getting rich today, when Spotify or TH-cam gives them some tiny fraction of a cent every time their song is streamed, but they keep making music anyway. If your goal is just to make money, being a musician today is not a good strategy.
What can I say, I will never get tired of listening to the Four Tops the most incredible band ever came out of Motown fantastic voices and the dancing so heartwarming and soul lifting always makes me happy watching them❤️❤️❤️from the UK alwsys and forever❤️❤️❤️
I was lucky enough to live in Detroit in 1965 and saw Levi, Obie Duke and Lawrence at the Flame Show Bar and the Roostertail. The greatest Motown group ever!

Pure talent right there folks, no miming , voice enhancing equipment or any other nonsense. Just totally live brilliance. These people are incredibly hard to find. The world salutes you.
I met Duke this weekend and he was one of the sweetest stars I have ever met in my life and I have met quite a few. What a gem. I feel blessed. Thank you Elgin Sears for inviting me backstage and to the concert! Such a cool night. I felt like I was back in Dallas in the 70's when life was great!!
I just love this music, the 4 Tops were my favorite tune in on AM radio from Detroit in the 60's. Only thing better was seeing them live in Detroit and Cleveland! Never forget shaking Levi and Dukes hands back in Cleveland, Ohio in the 80's at the North Coast Harbor Event. What a group of friends performing !!!!
And Levi would share the love from the group! Brothers of love from High School, 1953! These were and still are the brothers of love of our Motown Music all these years!

And the Duke took the 4 Tops to the end! Bless the Duke for sharing all the love the 4 Tops gave us from the 50's through the end! Love the way Levi starts goofing around at 1.34 when he is singing the lyrics about being choked up inside - four tops always come across as four genuinely great guys who really enjoyed performing.
I came intentionally for fun, but left in tears. Something in between these small words, arrangements, harmonies, moves, etc. Gets me very emotional, it's like I'm never going to see, listen to or feel such a great experience nowadays or even through my entire life (especially because I was born in the 90's).
I'm weeping for my lost youth, the fact these guys are no longer around, the youth today don't know them and music today isn't worthy to kiss the feet of these masters.
