    Crazy how maturity works. This dude man'd up, and sacrificed his selfish needs so these kids under his cape could flourish and excel. Great story. Homeboy's mom was slangin and his dad was a known drunk who was never in his life. sometimes, regular dude's are heroes just for making the right choice. he sacrificed for his family and because of it, he gave his 3 kids a fighting chance. hats off to this guy

    Puro NoHo 818 🌴🌴🌴🌴
    I grew up on Hazlehurst Place. Went to Victory Blvd Elementary and went to Sun Valley Middle School for about a semester. Then we had to move out. Rent was too high. And when my mom saw the XV3 tag on my binder, that was it. Lol We moved to the Central Valley near Fresno. Different people, different lifestyle. Changed my life forever cuz I focused on my writing and my music instead of gangbanging. Plus, I didn't wanna claim no hood up there or bang Norte. That wasn't me. And with no 18th Street presence at all, there just wasn't a point to be in the streets like that. Life just took a different path for me. But I always carry that love for North Hollywood in my heart.

    @4:54: He pretty much summarizes the gentrification playbook... It's too bad that so many of 'OUR' peoples --- Blacks and Latinos --- are too busy with the distractions to even crack open the book. ALL OVER THE NATION we're being priced out of the very communities that many of us grew up in...
    When we end up living in cramped basements, under crumbling bridges, in old minivans and in refrigerator boxes, we'll all wish that we'd all done things a bit differently and done them when we had the chance to...

Irish discrimination stopped in the early 1900s, thats a few generations after the 60s so your clearly bullshitting, and the irish were known as criminals just like how your discriminating other races as criminals, they started gang banging in America but they could assimilate and hide their irish roots, browns and blacks couldnt. Good interview.
    The 90's were definitely active and off the hook! Especially in the 818 Valle, Pacoima to be exact. Shootings, stabbings, bloody beat downs and killings on a regular! You couldn't take the bus, ride your bike, walk the streets with being hittin up, jumped, shot at or getting smoked man. Everyone was getting killed. Everyone was going to jail and prison. Everyone was moving out the Valle. Crazy times.. . .

      ItsVersayce it's not that she supported it, most mexican parents are just like filipino parents. i think it's more of her understanding the reality of his environment and if you're gonna do something you may as well do it right. that's probably why she got a house in Lancaster. my dad was just like your parents, but like her, he got a house in a different city to try to avoid the gangs.

    • @itsversayce804
      @itsversayce804 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ricardo Muniz I think back in the 80s 90s it didn’t matter where you lived. Especially for filipino gangs, as there were only a few who were turf based. I do think moving to better locations before a child becomes older works better than moving an older kid who already has gang banging in his or her mind.
      True, our families are similar but a lot of filipino families often weren’t mentally supportive or understanding. There’s no might as well do it the right way, because their way was the “right way”. Financially, they probably are supportive but that comes with the price of not having your own personal growth and freedom.
      Although this guys mom was not right for being too lenient, filipino parents such as mine did more damage than good.

    • @rot1092
      @rot1092 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      ItsVersayce i see what you're saying but perspective makes a difference. my dad what i learned from him was what not to do, who i didn't wanna be like. parents like that just had less patience but same intentions for the most part. i mean the streets is the streets bad areas r just that. parents like that is better than no parents still or better than parents who don't care.
