I think the reason the Imperial Guard Dalek has bronze sections onscreen is to emulate the 60s style Supreme colour scheme. The Supremes in The Chase and The Daleks' Masterplan only have black on the skirt and dome, and so this one also only has black on the skirt and dome. It's the same way the Emperor's Guards in the episode only have black domes - they're emulating the Evil of the Daleks black Daleks.
Absolutely cannot wait to get this set! Been looking forward to them getting to Parting Of The Ways since the line began. This could be the first set of but multiple of.
I think the Imperial Guard Dalek is great! My only issue is it not having the ID Tag under the eyestalk. I have a High Quality photo of the actual CGI Model this Dalek is based off, & it does have an ID Tag. Also, kind of wish they gave it the Buzz Saw attachment that this Dalek was seen with, but the plunger works fine (there were apparently 2 CGI Models of this Dalek; one with a Buzz Saw & one with a normal plunger, so this works fine). I’m disappointed with the other Dalek though. I mean it is probably the most accurate that Dalek figure has ever looked, so as a figure it’s fine. It’s just…Why did they choose a normal Dalek Drone? How this Dalek looked in Series 1 is the same as it looks now! Why couldn’t they do the normal Dalek drone in a pack for a story which doesn’t have much variety in Dalek designs? Why didn’t they do the Emperor’s Guard Dalek? It feels disappointing because now the chances of a re-release of the Emperor’s Guard any time soon is now basically nil. Still, the Assault Dalek variant is nice & I’m glad just to have that re-released at last (although, it does look like they’ve just taken the old sculpt of the Claw Arm made for the thicker, stubbier old sculpt & put it on the new sculpt’s body)
Oh Lord, is that a new sculpt for the assault arm or did they literally just shove the 2005/6 version onto the accurate sculpt? It really looks like the latter and doesn't really fit
Pretty sure they’ve just reused the original claw arm sculpt which is disappointing surely the budget could stretch a tiny bit for a new plunger it wouldn’t be the first time they’ve made a new attachment for the HOTD line shame they didn’t make a new one for this set
@@jcrossan1351ye it's a shame they didn't at least retool it to make the arm longer as well bc surprisingly enough the claw end actually looks like it's still in the right scale with the revised mold plunger cups. If they at least retooled it to be longer then that'd probs solve the issue of it looking too chunky
Buzzing about the imperial dalek guard no longer have mine from the OG dalek battle pack so its a must get. Wish the guard had the saw attachment though like on the battles in time card. But can't have it all.
These look absolutely fantastic! I don’t have a good bronze drone so getting one without having to buy one second hand for far too much money is amazing. The claw variant is something I’m going to keep my eye out for two
It would be great if they release a Part 2 for The Parting of the Ways with two black dome gaurds and it'll be great if they have the budget to mould the big canon on one of them
Thank you again for another review, Matt! I like the Dalek Guard. The black and bronze is a great mix. It stands out well. I remember the scene of the Dalek Guard in the background with the empaire, too. Why were the early dalek toys so inaccurate? I am glad that they are accurate now. My favourite Daleks are from the 60s. They are the daleks! I won't be investing in this set. I'm not in a rush to get these at the moment. Thank you!
I'm fairly certain the reason that the claw looks stubby is that it's the original 2006 assault dalek arm that has been very slightly retooled to fit in the newer mould's ball joint. Still I would prefer this compromise over not getting the dalek at all.
god, i wish we had b&ms in the states. these look great and i'm tired of almost paying ridiculous amounts on shipping and upcharges for doctor who goodies. found a sensorites set for less than 30 pounds but they don't ship to missouri and the average price around here is $100 with $20 shipping just to get it a few states over.
I’m definitely army building on this set as I loved these daleks, if there is a second set, I’d love to see two imperial guards one with either a plunger or a sensor arm and the other to have a sonic cannon, if they can do the new tooling.
The black Dalek is actually a commander called a Black Dalek Leader as opposed to an Imperial Guard Dalek. All black Daleks were Black Dalek Leaders during the Classic era, with some being appointed Supreme and/or Controller, but the caste diversified with the Time War models.
@@keef5543My own research. In "The Evil of the Daleks," the Emperor calls the black-domed Daleks Black Dalek Leaders. They were originally meant to have black skirts like the Supreme from the 1st Doctor's tenure, but there wasn't enough time. They guarded the Emperor because they were the only Daleks left loyal to him. There's only one Black Dalek in "The Dalek Invasion of Earth," but his livery changed throughout the story because his casing couldn't be painted entirely black in time.
The Black Daleks from Parting of the Ways are officially named "Imperial Guard Daleks". The modern era ranks are much different to the classic era ranks.
@TheToggster The Dalek Combat Training Manual and Doctor Who: Figurine Collection assumed its rank but were incorrect. Two Black Dalek Leaders appear in the story, both leading troops but never guarding the Emperor like the Imperial Guard Daleks. The Time War hierarchy is the same as the Skaro and Necros ones, with just Gold and Blue Daleks being disbanded. Black and Red Daleks transitioned over. Blue was given to the Eternity Circle, Andor Daleks, the Scientific Division, and the Interrogator Prime. Red also became a Supreme livery. The New Dalek Paradigm and Restoration Empire were different.
Little disappointed with the assault variant as it looks like they just used the old 2005 sculpt and stuck it on the new dalek sculpt hence the shorter length. I might have a go at modifying it by cutting off the plunger piece off a standard dalek arm and then attaching only the flamethrower piece onto the longer manipulator arm, might look a bit less disproportionate then haha.
I've seen zero indication of a date from any news source unfortunately: most specific I've seen it get is 'in time for Christmas' from Character themselves
They've painted the small gap between the eyeball and discs black, something that's heavily neglected on the figures since 2012s SFX dalek, the ironsides, progenitor guardian, crucible dalek and supreme dalek had it and it got forgotten about with the SFX bronze boi up till now, most NSDs have that strip on the props BTW there are several ebay, etsy places you can get better sculpted claw arms, tonnies dollies did one, this is just the 2006 claw shoved into the new sculpt
I think they should have just done two sets, one with guard dalek and drone and one with standard guard dalek (bronze body) and assault dalek...or just give us the assault dalek arm seperately to switch out...
It feels so fucking lazy that the tooling budget didn't go into extending the blowtorch/claw arm to make it longer, as the actual blowtorch piece on the end is surprisingly still in proportion with the revised mold plunger cups. Instead the tooling budget was wasted on giving River Song a pointless new head instead of reusing the space suit River head, which is almost identical to the new one. Well done Al Dewar, you've done it again & wasted CO's tooling budget on new parts that didn't need to be made instead of putting it towards shit that actually does need to be improved!

not nearly enough appreciation in this comments for the smoothness of the transition between the two figures! immaculate editing work
Just went back to look at that incredible
Yeah, I was thinking that was brilliant!
I thought they would do a chase version with the bronze Dalek having a black dome, being the old school guard from Evil of the Daleks

I believe the cutting claw is the same one from the old sculpt.
Great review! Love the look of these Daleks. Looking forward to getting them. Love the shade of bronze used this time.
That claw is nice! I'll be keeping an eye out for this fella!
Brilliant reivew as always Matt huge fan of the channel and long time subscribed roder!
Glad to see that they've got their act together in terms of the colour scheme, though if I'm honest I'm not sure if the weathering on the base works
Amazing! the all bronze drone dalek is my favorite! The black and gold one is pretty awesome too! Great review!
This set takes me back to those days of the Battle Pack Daleks, excellent review Matt as always buddy 🙂
The black dalak looks super cool.

They need a pilot Dalek, with the alternating skirt panel colors
I think i have the original version of of the Imperial Guard from the Battle Pack so if i get my hands on one ill do a side by side comparison
Thank you again for another review, Matt!

How does the bronze compare to other bronze dalek releases like the crucible or progenitor guardian figures

It's not retooled, the chunky mold NSD appendages fit into the revised mold ball joints with 0 problems.

I really need to get myself that assault claw dalek, it's the only one of this batch I don't have yet
Ooh, might have to grab this. If nothing else to get myself another basic bronze drone for spares/customising ^^
You think you could do a figure animation with the recent daleks, especially the new sculpt daleks
The black Dalek is actually a commander called a Black Dalek Leader as opposed to an Imperial Guard Dalek. All black Daleks were Black Dalek Leaders during the Classic era, with some being appointed Supreme and/or Controller, but the caste diversified with the Time War models.
Dalek 6388 or Dalek bumps ?

Do we have a specific release date to start hunting from instead of a vague month or so

Look Matt, don’t judge the length of things until they’re in use
Should've had the drone have a laser cutter claw
It does....he shows this in the video.
Nevermind just watched the rest of the video!
I think they should have done the Emperor Guard Dalek instead of a standard for the people who missed the Toys R Us set in 2013
