The Fethead in my opinion makes you sound slightly brighter in the higher end. I purchased one for my SM7B and I'm waiting for it to be delivered. I'm sort of hoping that it'll really help out the sound a bit since I have the preamp somewhat lower but a lot of gain in OBS while I'm recording.

You shouldve just bought a vocal processor pre-amp for $60-$120 then the fethead imo.. You'll have better sound, acess to a limiter/compressor/EQ.... Behringer hs older pre-amps that are good. I use a focusrite and a Behringer vocal processor... under $200 used

The only one on the internet who actually mentions there is a clear issue with the MV7 and that it needs a boost. Apparently me and you are the only ones that believe this.

Florian, I'm not sure if you will pick up on this, but I'm looking for a good recipe for best MV7 settings. Yes, I know they are 101 tutorials, unboxings etc. already out there, but they just through ALL the possibilities. It's a bit embarrassing to admit this, but I am an award winning radio producer who was fifteen years in the business, but back in those days I had the luxury of a engineer on the other side of the glass to worry about getting the settings right, and all that.
Earlier, today I set myself the task of taking a sample block of text and recording it over and over again, each time adjusting the settings. Well, it worked out at about 18 to 24 permutations and I lost heart just about a third of the way in.
The nature of the recording I am doing, btw, is solo audio narratives. I'm 60 years young with a good radio voice, tenor sounding but with a nice bass resonance. Hope someone can point me to an 'idiot's setup guide'. Thanks!

Well with my 26 years young, my understanding is that there is no such thing as the perfect sound. Maybe just stick with the settings you liked the most out of the ones you tested and try to not think about it again. People who are listening to your narration don't have the comparison and will like it anyway.
If you try to find the perfect sound, you will go insane and never stop searching haha

Florian, really kind of you to respond and so promptly. I remembered something I'd forgotten about any kind of testing which is to record, then move on to something else, before coming back with objective ears. So, I've opted for presence boost/medium compression//limiter - I'll see how I go with that. Many thanks, Stephen

what about sm7db with fethead? i know it already has extra 28db of gain, but i find it has alot more noise when you use the amplifer thats inside the mic, could u compare sm7db 28+db of gain noise floor compared to when its not engaged and instead uses the fethead?
