anyone who would destroy artifacts of engineering and artistry on behalf of someone's hoplophobia isn't worthy of respect. they could simply deny the request by the police. these were just normal weapons they got from criminals or through a buy back program. also, no where in the second amendment do they require serial numbers. all gun laws are a violation. this would be like asking smith and wesson if they would be so kind to destroy a bunch of perfectly functioning knives, some perhaps vintage with significant cultural and historical value. these people have no respect for the craftsmanship and work that goes into anything. which is expected considering how atrocious benchmade qc is. they obviously think everyone else takes their job as as non seriously they do. also, benchmade donates to anti gun and pro weapons ban(including automatic knives) politicians. put two and two together. they obviously are a bunch of woke liberal progressives masquerading as the working man's friend. boycott them and drive them out of the industry so they can cut corners elsewhere. they also artificially inflate their knife prices and take advantage of people's willingness to shell out a 100+ usd premium for a knife with a name on it. their name is worth less than dirt at this point. their knife quality is matched and exceeded by almost everyone else now, including chinese companies like we knives, so what exactly are we paying for? to support a company that takes our profits and donates it to politicians who hate our guts? the benchmade 940 is crap btw. most overrated knife in history.

This comment was meant to be sarcastic.
Boy, when you talk knives or guns, politics or health care...you open a can of worms. STICK TOGETHER GUYS, don't let a small disagreement become part of a self destructing movement. Benchmade is a USA company. Next some idiot will be telling you to boycott Buck Knives for some reason. Maybe THIS is part of the Russian plan.

@safe space :- The Spyderco "hole in the blade" patent has expired and is open season for anyone to copy ( as far as I know, for several years now).
My point was, don't mix up your greviences...gun, knife, hunting, or whatever. We all have to stick together, and because a corporation does something that you don't agree with, it does not mean you have to put them down...there are enough people out there who find knives to be "scary" & we don't need to be doing their job for them.
This video was extremely biased and negative (especially to Benchmade) and you know what they say...divide and conquer.

    • @blueeyeswhitedragon9839
      @blueeyeswhitedragon9839 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@safe space :- I like the knives they produce and believe any boycott can only harm that corporation and my future chances of including their knives in future purchases. I don't buy Chinese knives (unless produced by U.S. companies) and I don't want to see choices limited by our own short sightedness. Benchmade is not anti gun, they are just holding an opinion that might differ slightly from yours or mine and the video of them destroying guns might have been an error in judgement, but thousands of guns are destroyed every year for good reason. I don't have the money to buy custom knives, so companies like Spyderco, Case, and yes, Benchmade are there for me to fulfill my needs.

I must say, I'm impressed with your reasonable discussion about this subject compared to the overblown hysteria on nearly all other channels, posts, memes, and comments I've seen. I was not aware of your channel before, but this alone has made me a subscriber. We all need more level-headed people in the Community.
The reactionary, inaccurate hysteria over this Benchmade topic is ironic considering this same triggered behavior is commonly pointed out by the same people toward others (usually liberals) in general.
I would like to (in my eyes) clarify a few things you mentioned however. Apologies for the length:
According to a spokesman at the police department, a local machine shop that normally is used to cut firearms to the required size declined to assist the police this time for an unknown reason. That is when OCPD turned to Benchmade. They have been supporters in various capacities of their local police for a long time.
Politicians that are for reasonable gun legislation are not, by definition, "anti-gun" nor "anti-Second Amendment". Unless I am mistaken and could not find anything in my research, those who received donations have never called for, or voiced support for, striping away the 2A, but rather clarifications on existing laws or expanding very specific limitations in certain areas. In fact a bit of research shows some of those politicians that were donated to, have actually voted FOR pro-gun legislation as well, so it's a mixed bag and not cut and dry, so to speak.
I find it odd that some of these people that are the most vocal and bent out of shape about this wholeheartedly support Trump. However, using their same failed logic, Trump not only supported but actually pushed for with executive action, and accomplished to institute, a bump-stock ban. Do they now NOT support him because he's not 100% onboard with anything and everything regarding guns? I'm thinking....no.
Benchmade as a company does not donate to politicians, only individuals do. As stated on the OpenSecrets webpage regarding these donations: _"The organizations themselves did not donate, rather the money came from the organizations' PACs, their individual members or employees or owners, and those individuals' immediate families. Organization totals may include subsidiaries and affiliates."_
To be clear, I have many guns, I carry a sidearm on my job, I shoot for sport a few times per week, but honestly this irrational outrage mob mentality is embarrassing and does not do much for the perception of many people that too many gun owners have a hair trigger (pun intended) and detached from reality anytime the subject of firearms is even mentioned, facts be damned.
For no particular reason I've never actually owned any Benchmade knives, so I really don't have a dog in that fight either way. Anyway, that's my take on it, and again I appreciate your calm and collected perspective in this video, I just wish more people had this approach, the knee-jerk reactions seems to be more the norm these days.

The people who get hurt the most by these boycotts are the people that work for Benchmade. A boycott is not going to hurt the higher-ups, as they are set for life anyway. I personally don't give a damn about political support, as barely anyone elected is against owning guns(there are a few, but it isn't common to support removing people's guns). Some wish to increase regulations and purchase requirements, but that is another tangent for a different day.
Fantastic video, Jeff! I like your logical approach and reasoning. I wish more of us, in the knife world, thought that way. I personally think only an fool boycotts a single company for something like this. The all or nothing mentality of our country is tiring and disgusting. America is great, has been great, and will be great. Regardless of the talking heads in the Washington offices. The worst thing that ever happened in this country is when people who disagree stopped talking to eachother. When people only associate with people that validate, likely incorrect ideas, it leads into a void of circular ignorance.

Benchmade has always been a huge corporate machine and their scandals have always blown over. Also, police depts dont destroy guns. For whatever reason they ask local weld & machine shops, metal shops, etc to chop them up. Its the same in Canada. Which is what Benchmade was doing, on request. Nobody boycotts those small local shops.

When I sent them a email because I do live in Canada I wanted to know if they could throw in a free ball cap for all my troubles. The owner( i can not remember his name) told me to sit and rotate. Not exactly that way I said it but still I was in shock. I spent $1000.00 on these knives. I surely did not expect to have all these problems with 3 out of 4 knives. Personally had no clue Benchmade was anti-gun until this scandal broke. As for me, I'm done! Benchmade, Rock River, Springfield Arms, and Yeti. Done! Sorry Jeff, can't agree with your outlook. There's a difference between a company that isn't Pro-Gun, compared to one that is actively Anti-Gun.
If my couch wasn't made by a Pro-Gun company, that doesn't mean I'm throwing it out! Most likely it was made by one that also isn't Anti-Gun either! So I have no problem with that! Yes, there is a difference. A company that isn't fighting to preserve my rights yet also isn't fighting to take them away is very different from one like Benchmade that is actively trying to, by financially supporting those with the power to introduce legislation that blatantly violates the Constitution.
And honestly, Jeff; I first encountered you over on CPF over a decade ago. You left and became a successful TH-camr. I think that's great. But you're making yourself look foolish with that whole "What if" scenario involving every knife company out there. Spyderco, SOG, KAI, Cold Steel, and Ernie Emerson have all come out as supporting the rights of their core customer base. Rights of gun owners. Let's not forget literally countless custom makers who hunt and shoot, and have always been honest about supporting fellow like-minded individuals in the gun community. Sorry Jeff but your "What if" scenario was honestly ridiculous.

Personally, I don't really see how this is that big of an issue. The local PD needed some guns destroyed, BM help them out. "Oh no, BM is coming after our guns..." No, BM supported their local PD. I personally value that over them destroying a few guns.

Devon that’s how I feel. I don’t care about who they donated to or what guns they destroyed.

Ok but can we talk about how the link for WE knives (the only primarily Chinese brand on the list) in the description of this video is referred to as GOOX?!???

It wasn't stupid. BM should be applauded to help the police. These were all guns that stem from crimes and would've lived in the Evidence Rooms of Police. The Guns would never have seen the light of day anyway. If that's smart or not I don't know but it sure as Hell isn't Benchmades fault. They just helped out their local PD. I didn't know about the donations until now.

It's the funding of anti 2A pols that's the real problem. Like Springfield, they've become just another swamp creature.

@@busboy262 I am not into politics but as a knife company they should stay out of politics especially complicated things like this

@@alittleolder I think that's about right. We really have 2 kinds of stupid found in some of these companies that wade into the culture/political conflict.
There are the Gillette, Nike and Dick's sporting goods types. These kinds of idiots go out and just insult and demean their customers. These are the overt types of tards.
Then we have the Benchmade and Springfield Armory types. This is more subversive and (IMO) insidious. This kind of creep looks for a way to enhance their bottom line with no regard for their customer. And they do this while pretending to value our freedoms just as much as we do.
I don't buy the argument that these pols were helping BM with knife carry laws. If they were to support pols that are 2A and CCW supporters, knife carry is just a natural extension of this view. Instead, they supported ANTI 2A and CCW pols. What makes them think that they sincerely believe in knife carry? Or do these pols base their support on the number of dollars that they're given. Either way, they're feeding the swamp.
I couldn't care less about them helping their local PD. I'm glad that they did. If they didn't, I would still think that BM was a reputable company. I know better now.
