I have noticed that with every interview Brandon does, he is very humble...He is also very generous with his compliments to his band mate, or even to his mangers..He never singles himself out as "Gods Gift" to everything he does... He is very kind and thoughtful with his words, and I truly believe he means every word he says...That is the vibes I'm getting with every one of his interviews when he is questioned..Since I don't know Brandon personally, I could be wrong...But I don't think so!
i absolutely love brandon,he is extremely handsome, humble and honest about the artist he is. he is a respectable person, i wish that more people could appreciate his growth as an individual and as a band member. i love that he is truly genuine, some don't understand him, but that is a personal problem.some commentors are focusing on the wrong ideas;criticizing him over petty things.brandon is an amazing artist.i love absorbing his intelligence and all that he shares from his heart.
Everything everyone else said in the comments... ditto. Brandon is just everything you wish to find in a person. Beautiful heart, humble, soulful, in touch with himself and the world, and people around him. He's just so lovely, I love his mind and expression.
Great interview, the photographer is so funny...I enjoyed what he had to say, he does have to capture the moments onto his film with her camera...I love the part where he ask Brandon to be 'happy'! Yup that was so Cool!
It's so strange to me that Brandon Boyd has been the only artist that has been able to explain my personal creative process in such a full way. It's mesmerizing and inspiring to me. I absolutely love all of his interviews.
I've been a loyal fan of this band for about 13 years, but I have never had the pleasure of such a candid interview. In my opinion Brandon is not strange at all, he's unique, passionate, and driven. It's not easy to be a performer and share one's gift with the world. Not with all these wannabe critics.
"If not now, when" is not expected from these dudes....true enough. But give it an honest chance. The honest and colourful lyrics, and the melodies really separate these dudes from so many other artists out there. There is much to be learned from these dudes and their ideas.
I'm going to throw something in here, and I don't want this to be taken in anger, as so many posts on TH-cam can grow in to. Specifically this is about elhombre698's comment. You are correct my friend. Brandon is getting old. But we all are. We all grow and mature. Incubus is not what they were back in the days of their first release and that is great, because as a group they have grown and become more adult and they successfully convey, as a whole, their musical journey as individuals.
Loved the way he spoke about song writing bc I go through some of the same things. I thought I was the only one for a long time and now I know I am not alone.
I've been an Incubus for years now and always listen to their songs but this is the first time I've heard Brandon talk, like as in, having a conversation with somebody else
It took a few listen's but I love that record. Have you heard the solo disc? Granted the production is rough, but it definitely adds to it's charm and warmth.. It's a wonderful album. In 15 years, people will still be discovering this band... We will be talking about them 20 years from now.
I could listen him talk for hours. What a great mind. And if you actually listen what he's saying and if you are a creative person yourself you'll understand what he means. To me he's not just talking about arts and stuff or I don't find him talking boring at all. His thoughts and way of seeing things and the way he speaks is very inspiring
Does anyone have a REALLY long dryspell? I mean, for example - I went to college - to do art - and I got done with college - got a lot out of it - learning will forever be an important thing. However, that drive, that passion to draw every day and do something with those skills - has been fairly vacant ... since graduating really - as though I was in a fog and I can't feel my way back to the art. A lot of that is the "real world" where I work a 40 hour a week job that is socially challenging over time and there's not much inspiration or energy that stays retained it seems to foster a creation.... maybe it's just about finding how to retain that and to get it back.... ? But for real, hearing Brandon speak about his experiences with art and music - I wonder why it can be so hard to - flip that switch (as though it's always that easy!).
Nick Nordstrom Burnt out seems about right - it's weird at least for me - it's not like I don't get inspired daily... it's just that drive - or the actual DOING that seems the hardest - OR when you do - nothing you do is satisfactory to your own self.... yeeeeeah... good stuff!
i love if not now, when? in fact every album catches me by surprise:)every album positively has grown with the band incubus. the music is beautiful, but not only that lyrically i pick up on the intellect, and i get intrigued. by the importance of incubus and their outlook on life. I'm attracted to incubus because of my thinking patterns i live life constantly realizing more and more as time ticks on. we are all one, and INCUBUS!
Brandon seems cool. People with all this creative stuff to me seem to be running away from their genuine selves. I’ve had several creative friends that I really never got to know as a genuine person.
Did anyone else hear him refer to Mike as "my guitarist"? That sounded a little douchey. I think what he said about inspiration is completely true, well I guess I can only speak for myself, but that feeling of "not knowing what you're doing until you've been doing it for a while" is a great description.
I don't think it's entirely fair to label Brandon as a hipster. He is a very thought provoking individual, and his early life of learning to draw how he feels really contributes to the great imagery in the words he writes for Incubus. He still has the chops to pull of stuff like "A certain shade of green" which is great, but he's become so much more than that tune and is honestly talking about his journey through life.
There are several "types" of artist obviously. But a painter/drawer etc is different from a musician/writer. And obviously, hes talking about the fact that hes always been creative VISUALLY rather than musically. Wow. Like he said, hes been drawing since he was a kid. Did you actually watch the interview?
He gets to do art for a living only because he was in Incubus and made a name for himself that way. The rest of us have to do it as a hobby or we are starving artists.
so if someone is different then you he is weird ?? its really nice to see such compassionate, open minded people such as yourself !! lol dude get over yourself !!
Oh, and "hipster" does NOT in any way describe this guy...Chris from coldplay is a self absorbed hipster who does not realize his band completely ripped off The Bends from radiohead, and just keep making albums like it..
the typical dude that see arts... n stuff... as a cliche characteristic of "hipsters"... man, really, just don't criticize what you don't know. for some "if not now, when?" is shit, for others is a piece of art! guess who matters, incubus? i don't think so... why? because they are too bussy trying to be happy with what they do. That's the only thing that matters in life.
Love it! All of the members of Incubus are geniuses...then they are led by their prophet, Brandon Boyd...the result is some of the best music ever created
It's like he's a piece of all of us and everything we never could articulate in quite a way. People like this help all of us remember who we are.
Brandon's story of how his mother influenced and nurtured his creativity is a great example to parents.
I have noticed that with every interview Brandon does, he is very humble...He is also very generous with his compliments to his band mate, or even to his mangers..He never singles himself out as "Gods Gift" to everything he does... Brandon has such a calm voice
i absolutely love brandon,he is extremely handsome, humble and honest about the artist he is. he is a respectable person, i wish that more people could appreciate his growth as an individual and as a band member. i love that he is truly genuine, some don't understand him, but that is a personal problem.some commentors are focusing on the wrong ideas;criticizing him over petty things.brandon is an amazing artist.i love absorbing his intelligence and all that he shares from his heart.
Well said Cheree!
Brandon just articulately put into words what the creative process feels like. I was nodding my head in agreement the whole time.
I've always suspected He was on the path. He is BRILLIANT. such a prolific artist. What a gift
How soothing would that be to listen to Bob Ross and Brandon Boyd having a conversation together?
Damn never thought of that. My pot head self now want to see that
Everything everyone else said in the comments... ditto. Brandon is just everything you wish to find in a person. Beautiful heart, humble, soulful, in touch with himself and the world, and people around him. He's just so lovely, I love his mind and expression.

His voice is the embodiment of ASMR and I love that.
What a beautiful man, so gentle in spirit. Love his style of creativity, very familiar.
It's so strange to me that Brandon Boyd has been the only artist that has been able to explain my personal creative process in such a full way. It's mesmerizing and inspiring to me. I absolutely love all of his interviews.
I like how Incubus are genuine artists who happen to play great music at the same time
Definitely! I'm so glad there's people on the planet who "get it". There is nothing more refreshing!
I've been a loyal fan of this band for about 13 years, but I have never had the pleasure of such a candid interview. In my opinion Brandon is not strange at all, he's unique, passionate, and driven. It's not easy to be a performer and share one's gift with the world. Not with all these wannabe critics.
amazing interview. wow I wasn't expecting that.
loved what he said about his process...he has such a great way of articulating
how deep the personality..i adore you

I think the root of the creative process is accepting who you are and letting that to be expressed.
Loved the way he spoke about song writing bc I go through some of the same things. I thought I was the only one for a long time and now I know I am not alone.
why it does every words comes out in his mouth are very meaningful?
Reanbrant Pacaldo BECAUSE HE IS BRANDON FUCKING BOYD
He is such an Aquarius- love him.
This stuff is bullshit
@@ToldoMexes i agree
Agree ❤
I've been an Incubus for years now and always listen to their songs but this is the first time I've heard Brandon talk, like as in, having a conversation with somebody else
Miguel Luigi me too that's hilarious!!
7 years later, Brandon... Where are your children?! The world is missing out on your beautiful babies.
Brandon has the ultimate ASMR voice!
Only the creative know that this is a great interview.
It took a few listen's but I love that record. Have you heard the solo disc? Granted the production is rough, but it definitely adds to it's charm and warmth..

We are so identical in our expressive process! Or, channeling. It's nuts!!
kpixdubs No, no you're not.

Amazing...❤❤❤❤

Speakofawe I challenge you to read the War of Art by Steven Pressfield. The answers you're looking for may lie in there.
Speakofawe I'm in the same boat. College seems to have burned me out.
CrimmTheSkullKid Thank you! I've added it to my list of To-Reads! :D
Nick Nordstrom Burnt out seems about right - it's weird at least for me - it's not like I don't get inspired daily... it's just that drive - or the actual DOING that seems the hardest - OR when you do - nothing you do is satisfactory to your own self.... yeeeeeah... good stuff!
Speakofawe You will often feel the most resistance to the thing you must do the most.
I think the "my guitarist" thing is simple for those who don't actually know the band and is an appropriate generalization.
Immensely intriguing!
amazing
Coincidentally, Zakk Wylde said the same thing:
"You don't choose music, music chooses you."
8:07
TH-cam 'Zakk Wylde Dunlop'
Great minds think alike.
he also said, "our band".
He's not the "typical hipster dude", he's an artist...what else could he talk about?
Inspiring... \m/

Hes always been an artist first, then a musician...

Well he is almost 40...
sort of, sort of, sort of, sort of, this sort of.....
He gets to do art for a living only because he was in Incubus and made a name for himself that way. The rest of us have to do it as a hobby or we are starving artists.
To save time 5 minutes view it at 1.25x speed.. Brandon Boyd is speaking in slow mo in real life...
happy yam You're just an idiot who has an attention span of a gnat.
Because he talks about his profession and passion he is weird? Get out dude. Boyd is awesome.
so if someone is different then you he is weird ?? its really nice to see such compassionate, open minded people such as yourself !! lol dude get over yourself !!

Incubus really got boring after a while their stuff became
Trying too hard
Brandon looks old in this...
Incubus is my favorite band damn is brandon boyd boring
Wtf happened to him
Too stylised... And style can of ten destroy the art
Well mike is a jew to be fair, its only natural for him to be underneath Brandon in the class system.
i love the man. but man, hopefully he's not doing meth or something.
Love it! All of the members of Incubus are geniuses...then they are led by their prophet, Brandon Boyd...the result is some of the best music ever created
Agreed! So inspirational!
Hes always been an artist first, then a musician...
