In awe of what an authentic, grounded, beautiful soul he is. He truly believes the thing he said about the purpose of art. And that’s ironically what makes him so successful in his pursuits. What a human. What a life.
Self loathing? Very interesting and honestly, extremely honest of you to offer up here! It just goes to show you that WE ALL feel the exact same emotions, perhaps at different times in our lives. I personally believe that we are all creative in our own ways. For me, creativity involves food, prepping, preparing, cooking. That’s my creativity, however, I’m not a famous chef or a chef at all. It’s MY RELEASE, my enjoyment
This was both endearing and troubling. People seem so curious about creativity and success, and how someone could be so prolific and multidisciplinary. In the last 25 years of doing art, I've found that art must be sought... it must be relentlessly explored, a cliff you dive off over and over. It's childlike and playful as Brandon eloquently put. I say the same thing, in fact I believe it is part of our purpose in life to create and experience joy in the process. The thing is, this exploration takes time. And as I've become an adult, I've found, like all of us, that the responsibility of making a living and surviving often outweighs the opportunity to create. I went to 3 art colleges in pursuit of an artistic career, and in 8 years since my graduation, I've done very little art because I'm overwhelmed with the burden of making money. In Brandon's case, he has earned abundant time and freedom through a magical thing called royalties. Likewise, he has a guaranteed legion of collectors and a fanbase because he's from a legendary band. It has been my favorite band since I was 8. I know countless multidisciplinary artists who are extremely talented and nobody has ever heard of them or buys any of their work. I'm one of them. Brandon has been an inspiration since 1998 when I first heard incubus in 2nd grade. I'm 34 now and haven't had an ounce of success, it's not about how creative you are, it's about your value in the eyes of people. To quote an old favorite by incubus, "high school never ends..." -- the people who are seen as popular move effortlessly through life. The rest of us drift like ghosts in the orbit of their glow.
My question for him is, How does it feel? When you were 14, 15 , 16 looking up to other artists wanting to be them wanting to make music like them and creating a band that stook together for 1991-present time And now your somebody for kids adults elders Your being looked up too just how you looked up to your Favorite bands, artists, and more your being looked up as a best friend, a person to love someone that pepole like me and others want to be, want to meet, I love you Brandon, You've really have gotten me through some tough times, Actually you wrote a song for my father who left me and my brother when i was 2 and he was 3 the song is Glass from the S.C.I.E.N.C.E. album I hope you some how see this comment and maybe free up some time to answer the question - Sevyn Destry
To paint is to meditate over any and everything. Painting is to evolve. Even if it is just painting black. Making a painting is magic for ones soul. It's therapy without the 3000$ bill. If you don't belive me. Try it.
You have to stay in the flow of you life ,to stay present with yourself thats when the creativity is on fire! At least thats been my experience! You Brandon are an incredibly inspirational! ❤

the truth is. in most cases. its money. about 50 % of the human popultaion has artistic skill, its having the money or the means to make that happen. you even said it, its child-like! what is childhood? its being given the freedom of expression without the demands of adult responsibility. Is this to say all artists are rich or born with money? no, of course not, but if youre an artist and have money, you have a big leading edge
