    hey lisa,I am in second year of engineering.I want to buy a portable computer so that I can do research for my projects and also read E-books of my syllabus.Softwares that I need for my study like C,Java and Matlab are all available in plenty of my college computers.
    I only want to browse the internet,read E-books,check emails.I would also appreciate a good resolution display for occasional TH-cam streaming.So is a tablet a better choice or a laptop a better choice for a budget upto 500 dollars?

    So, is the P40 essentially an X1 Yoga with discrete graphics? The X1 can be configured with an OLED panel and why I saw you say it's good, I'm worried about burn in and battery life. Are there any other differences between the X1 yoga and p40?

    Hi Lisa, can you compare, please, the ThinkPad P40 vs ThinkPad X1 Yoga. Thanks.

    Hey lisa, Does the Yoga P40 works with regular wacom stylus (Like Fujitsu models)? Does it has Dualtouch option(Pen and Touch together)?

  • @xa3point10
    @xa3point10 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think she forgot that the thinkpad P40 DOES have an optional (M.2 Sata3 where Mobile Card can be placed) to place a second drive. There is a M.2 Drive size 2242 that you can install up to a 256gb or 500gb drive by a select few manufacturers. I placed a 256gb M.2 drive and placed my operating system on it. My standard SSD drive holds all my personal files. Amazon sells these. I went with MyDigitalSSD Boot Drive option. No issues to report.

    upon opening the back up, theres seems to be a extra m.2 slot (2240 size?) and a sim slot, even if the laptop is not specced with it. do you think those are disabled?

    Hi Lisa, thanks for the review.
    The P40 seems a good option, but for my needs I don't require a dedicated graphic (well, perhaps ocasional gaming, but this doesn't help a lot).
    My question is regarding QHD vs FHD battery life.
    Im thinking between X1 Yoga i5, pci-e ssd, 8gb ram FHD or maybe same configuration but with QHD. Battery life being my only concern, though if I might not get even an hor more, I might go for the 2K screen.
    Though still wonder if there is so much of a difference tobthe eye in a 14" screen? Plus then there is scaling! Though being able to fit more windows on the screen seems useful.
    Any advice on real battery life different?

    Hi Lisa. Recently my 2013 MacBook Air logic board got fried somehow. I've been looking at a few laptops such as a Dell XPS 13 and a Surface Book. Are their any laptops that you recommend. Don't want to buy a Lenovo laptop again.

  • @nalong55
    @nalong55 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just FYI, while you said it doesn't have an M.2 SATA, it DOES have an M.2 SATA slot that is open and you can add up to an addition 512GB via that slot (largest available in the 42mm size).

    Dear Lisa I've watched a lot of your videos and I think I liked this one the most so far ...
    I'm about buying a new laptop the next month or two
    I mostly work with CAD software & Spread sheets back in the office ...
    I'm on a decision to make that I will very much appreciate you're advice between this lenovo thinkpad P40 or the HP Envy x360 with AMD APU FX9800P 15" with 4.79Ib and I'm liking the AMD APU over Intel but what is stopping me is the considerably heavyweight for a convertible
    I've surfed the web for hours to find any other convertible with the same APU and less weight but there was non and I thought You might be better informed about what to choose or to weight little bit more till some other brands start considering this APU on their products
    Best Regards

    Hi, I'm a bit of an artist, and after looking through your reviews I'm pretty firmly stuck between the ThinkPad 460 and this machine. This guy here wins me over pretty firmly in terms of displays, but there's one problem -- there's no way I can afford the upgrade to get the WQHD graphics, and from what I can tell the standard display is the same dimensions here as on the 460.
    So, question: How likely is it that the standard screen on the P40 and the screen on the 460 are exactly the same? Can I expect even the standard version to be better than the one on the 460? And if so, by how much? Would it be good enough to do art?
    I don't really know if you're in a position to answer these questions, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

    • @ryanho7033
      @ryanho7033 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont know anything about the 460 but I am staring into a p40 right as I am typing this sentence and I can firmly say that I am a fan of the matte screen option that it comes with!

    Hey there guys. I hope you can help out a bit. I currently own a Microsoft surface Pro 2 which I'm not that happy with anymore and am currently thinking of getting an Ultrabook. My problem is that there are so many of them available at the moment which makes it hard for me to search on my own on the internet and when I go to some shops it feels like they're always trying to sell the most expensive one instead of what I actually want. I'm a buisness and informatics student and the ultrabook is meant solely for the purpose of "university-usage", for gaming etc I have my own computer at home. What I need is a slim and light design (something along the lines of the mac-book series, I just can't deal with them not using windows) and it shouldn't weight more than 1,4-1,5kg (3,0-3,3 pounds). Also I would prefer to have quality components over low-price components that break down after half a year because of everyday usage (like the zenbooks which I would instantly buy otherwise). My budget is around 1.100€ (around 1.250$) and I am able to get a student-discount varying from 10-20% depending on the brand.
    If you could think of any Ultrabook that fits my needs it would be awesome if you could reply!
    Greetz, Raph

  • @tylerwatt12
    @tylerwatt12 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thinkpad's really suck lately. I bought a couple for work, and they're riddled with software bugs like
    1: the dock not working if you plug it in before turning on the machine
    2: memory related BSODs
    and even hardware bugs like
    3: USB power surge notifications when nothing is plugged into them
    4: randomly power cutting because the laptop thinks the cover is open due to a faulty hardware switch on the chassis.
    5: poor build quality, easily crackable plastic trim pieces, floppy hinges
    And these were on the Thinkpad Yoga 14
    I really can't recommend Lenovo anymore.

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I have an X series and a T series and they are great. Lenovo have been doing these for years so quality wise they have nailed it, but these convertibles (gimmicks IMO) are relatively new and with time issues crop up. Software wise well I blame MS as they have pushed users to their limits with such buggy updates, it makes OEMs have to keep on the ball to make sure stuff doesn't stop working or causes issues. Just read that the Anniversary update has caused issues. I came home yesterday and out of the blue my XPS 13 had updated to this, the laptop was roasting hot and I cannot believe MS still does this to its users. Apple allows you to install when you are ready. I would never use Windows again if I had a choice, nothing but crap the last four years.

    • @cnick6
      @cnick6 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have to agree with Andy. MS is mostly responsible for the Windows 10 issues. Lenovo can only work on firmware related bugs but a lot of these indirectly issues are caused by Microsoft's constant changes to Windows 10 and it's ever-evolving operating system. Perhaps by 2020, Windows 10 will be stable. My E450 works great on Windows 7. With the exception of a rare BIOS issue, fixed just recently in the July BIOS release, my T430u works fine with Windows 8.1.

I'd recommend this machine if you're looking into playing GTA 5, you'll be able to play on medium-high settings at a reasonable frames. Hope I helped you. ;)

      The matte option on the p40 doesn't solve everything - it's more of a milky screen than a matte one but nonetheless, it is a huge improvement over the Yoga 3 to the point where I am no longer bothered enough to think about it.

      Thinkpad p51 (or p52s if you can wait for a couple months) is probably the best choice for your case. Quadcore i7, 4 ram slots, 3 drive bays. It is going to be on the heavier side but it should keep you happy for 3 to 5 years. I have the p50 and I love using it everyday.

      Do you want a regular laptop or a 2-in-1 like the one in this video? Build quality of ThinkPad models of Lenovo laptops are excellent. The one in this video, the ThinkPad p40 Yoga is a great 2-in-1 and has discrete graphics & Core i7 for about $1250 (might be lower this weekend for Black Friday). I'm on a phone, so I can't configure one easily, but I think I configured one with 16GB RAM & 256GB SSD drive for about $1550. Only downside is the max resolution is about 2500x1440, not 4K. Otherwise the ThinkPad P51, ThinkPad P51s, and ThinkPad P470p are the regular laptops you should consider for around $1300-1600. If you can wait a couple weeks for it to arrive, you should custom-build one so you can choose the options that matter to you. The regular laptops (not the 2-in-1) can be ordered with a larger battery (I think a 48W vs. regular 24W) that extends beyond the back a little, but doubles the battery life. They also have a cylindrical 72W battery, but I think it is taller so the keyboard will be tilted when the laptop is on a flat surface.
