One of the reasons why Tony Hawk is the GOAT is because of 1:51:02. "Favorite skater of all time?" -- Rodney Mullen. 100% always the correct answer. Mullen is the street GOAT, Hawk is the vert GOAT, and it's so awesome how much they respect each other!
that's the right answer for tony. wayyy more street skaters would say mark gonzales over rodney though. and they're right about that answer for them. for me, it's andrew reynolds. no such thing as THE answer to best or favorite skater though
Mullen isn't street, he was a freestyle skater, also he invented the majority of the flip tricks that exist today, which is why he is the Godfather of skateboarding...
@@Dannutts Gonz was the first skater that reimagened what skateboarding could be... Not necessarily with crazy technical tricks but how to use the urban landscape to our advantage... Brent Atchley gets Honorable Mention...
Whitney Cummings does something brilliant at 1:40:11 with capturing this whole developmental drama of young kids making decisions between sticking with the hard thing or saying "screw it" and indulging an impulse to do something else. If you're a parent, she's outlining what the stakes are right there. Brilliant.
I appreciate Kevin Christy's knowledge on his skate background. Wasn't expecting a lot of those questions to be brought up so its a nice mesh here. Also I would have to heavily agree that Heath Kirchart is definitely one of the best alumni to come from birdhouse. His skating career is legendary.
And also as fast as possible. The frentic energy that Whitney brings makes my brain spin. Especially when Tony is very measured and well paced. Phew. Thank you, Jesus she brought a knowledgeable friend. He really balanced the crazy.
Came here from hearing about Whitney on Hawk vs Wolf - pleasantly surprised about how good the interview was. Whitney should interview Jason Ellis sometime. Whitney and Ellis would be great interview.
I’ve always had a lot of respect for tony hawk. This episode took me by surprise! I love that he kept it clean for the most part. I don’t recall him drinking or smoking ever and that set him apart from the zboys for me. I was obsessed with that documentary and when I realized Tony was that og. Can we just appreciate this man has survived this long without behind a crazy drunk or drug user. Kids need that and I can’t imagine having that responsibility. He’s one of a kind!
I bet Tony Hawk needed a long nap after this podcast and the direct stream of questions speeding steadily at him the whole interview! Lol Whitney you did such a great job listening, not talking over and staying engaged. I really enjoyed the questions and interaction between Whitney’s friend and Tony. Great episode!
Fuck yeah!!! I love seeing that shit... Stick with it even if its just pushing around skating flat ground or just carving a bowl... don't let your age of skill level discourage you...
Goat? He was the only person the was allowed to enter the best trick that could do the 900... Other then that he's litrally a shit skater, got 12yr olds doing 1080s. Not to mention he can't do even half the basic flat land tricks 🤦
@@bearded_z0mbiegaming108 you sound dumb🤣🤣 no shit a 12 year old outspun him. Wait til that kid is even 17. He wont be able to do that anymore. Tony is a legend and you sound like a sad person. The Birdman commeth, what an excellent surprise 50 years and still going strong! Skating is one of the most enjoyable things ive ever experienced and im not sure how much I ever wouldve been exposed to it if it wasnt for Tony among others. Dont get to do it as much but every time I grab my board it still feels the same as at did almost 20 years ago so thank you for that seriously.
It's the best, I took it up 2 years ago with my daughter. It's so cool to watch her at her age (teen in a couple of years) crush at the skatepark next to all these og's.

As a former skater, he really hit the nail on the coffin with those question! The bird graphic question was so funny.
Fuck yes, awesome episode! Thanks for bringing Kevin Christy on, he killed it. And thanks for showing the skate stickers, that was really cool of you guys. That Sims Eric Nash pumpkin/flowers @2:08:26 was my second board (first was a Staab mini), and still one of my all time favorite board graphics.
There are so many skaters I’d love you to have on your show: Dustin Dollin, Mark Gonzalez, Andrew Reynolds, Stacey Peralta & Tony Alva together, Rodney Mullen, Jason Dill…so many
Xgames skate Vert was awesome this year, it was great to see Tony, and the 12 year old that landed a 1080, I remember when Tony did a 900, which was a record for years
This is so rad, in 80's we watched all Powell & Peralta's "Bones Brigade" vhs cassettes and young Tony H was really one of those, everybody knew here in Finland. Good job Whitney!!!
