  • Short video explaining how my 457 airgun balanced valve functions. Using one old valve body as a prop, but it is not a correct length for the valve I now use. Hope you get the idea.

    Thank you so much!!! Now it's all clear!
    I'm used to QEV's and not much more advanced than that...

    Interesting design. You effectively reduce the crossection that is exposed to the HPA allowing for a much smaler hammer/spring. The connection with the atmosphere is quite clever, good job! I see a problem with tuning the device for particular sectional density of the ammo used. The dwell time will depend on the small volume and the port size as you mentioned however changing either is not quite easy. Keep posting the progress. Good job!

    Neat design. Thanks for sharing the details. Was thinking the operation was something like you mentioned. However, I didn't visualize the more elaborate way you've demonstrated. Would be interesting to see more of the internals of your best design. Inspiring enough as is. I do wonder about how to make for harvesting animals for food more cleaner like using steel shot in shotguns... so to use no lead or heavy metals. Ever had thoughts about regarding? Guessing polymers or like full metal jacket around healthier metals with steel shot inside.

      jafinch78 Making a bigger caliber gun and using subcaliber ammo with sabots is one way. Have used sabot rounds with my .457 and 20mm airgun. There is supersonic shot video of the 20mm shot using 600grain .50 projectile with 3D printed sabots.

      @@MJPilote I'll take a look. Never thought about 3D printing sabots. Forgot to ask also, did you cast the the plunger/seal ends of the valve using a mold? What material & specs do you use?

    • @MJPilote

      jafinch78 No cast parts, seal material is PEEK and all the valve part are turned in a lathe.

    Your balanced piston is broken. Do you know it is breaking? Is your hammer spring too strong?

    • @MJPilote
      @MJPilote  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh I didn't notice it. 😉 Nothing to do with hammer spring, it's not bottoming out. I'm making over 1000J of muzzle energy on .457 and the peek balancer has hard time working the valve. After awhile it's going to break, so I made the new one out of titanium.

    Marko i thank u for you have share ss valve design , but i have question for you,
    1. How thick is ss valve tube chamber? It look like less than 1,5 mm thick , dont it getting in trouble when u fill the air pressure at 4500 psi?
    2. I see in this video u have pretty big size drilled stem, how wide is it?
    3. Can u mention how long poppet drilled vent to the balanced chamber?
    4. Please explain how much volume that ss piston chamber? Because it so much affected on me to launch heavy slug for .357 , thanks so heavy for u,
    Very glad u had shared it

    • @MJPilote
      @MJPilote  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Valve chamber is titanium, and has 3 times the safety margin for yield. Stem is 5mm and chamber port is no longer than 10mm max. Can't remember the exact dimensions. Piston volume is irrelevant if you have enough flow in to the valve. I have made 500-980J with this valve on different setups.

    Do you operate a similar valve (just bigger) on your 20mm air-gun? I´d love to build a .50 or .54 and am looking on how/how big to build the valve, I´d wish to get some input from you based on your experience.

    great. thanks for for sharing this with us. could you please tell us sth about the diameter oft the piston und the valve stem... etc.

    • @MJPilote
      @MJPilote  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Valve stem is 5mm other measurements are aplication dependant. you can have 40-65% of balancer force to your closing force depending on hammer mass, barrel bore and projectile weight. One size does not fit all. like on my case the forces change so much from going to .257 from .457 that the valve broke.
      Test and youll find what works for you.

      You need material datasheet and do calculations based on that data. I wont give specifications for any material as there is much more information needed than just material.
      You need to hydro test one specimen of every design to its yield before calling it safe. Threads and seal locations are all critical to a good safe pressure container.

    i dont understand why the valve stays closed when so much pressure is on it, doesn't it push the valve open when you dont want it do open.

    • @MJPilote
      @MJPilote  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is more surface area keeping the valve close than there is on the balancer to open it, so it is biased on the closing.

    Sir,
    I hope you know about RAW HM1000X .25 60ftlb version.
    Please suggest what kind and dimension of balanced valve will work?
    It's a regulated gun.
    What benefits a balanced valve can give me against the traditional valve?

    • @MJPilote
      @MJPilote  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On a regulated small bore there is very little to gain from balanced valve. It is more suited for big bores that need very heavy hammer to actuate.
