#9 VHMA Leash On, Calmly Exit Door, Loose Leash Walking

AKC Virtual Home Manners Test: This one is SO important for SO MANY REASONS. Firstly, Luna LOVES walks and they make her super excited. Whenever she heard or saw the leash she would run, jump and wiggle. Getting her to "place" before I even touch her leash is the key. She will still be excited but she's able to control herself better when she's on her board. Luna's very well mannered on leash because she wants that reward of getting outside to walk.
Secondly, walking calmly at my side makes going for walks a fun experience for me, for her, and for anyone else in the neighborhood at that time. I don't want an overstimulated dog who tries to drag me around or is not focused on me. We've spent A LOT of time on attention exercises in various settings. She still gets distracted from time to time in a busy setting, but we have a solid foundation and plenty of skills to use to get her focus back on me as needed.
