Deviljho and Lunastra have no ground level weak points. It's like they don't think about Great Sword mains. But as you say, Great Sword mains gotta optimize the staggers.
From GS view, Luna's weakspots are on her wings, she can't get stun by simply hitting her head, flashing her on the sky will simply stagger her, but not dropping her from the sky, and fast movement with a little to no alert whatsoever. She's basically a beast.
Question from a noob that wants to learn GS: isn't it faster to get to the true charged slash by using the slingshot? Or is the tackle better/does more damage?
I don't know about that. Since I can beat both optional and investigation nergi in almost the same time, while in Lunastra's case, there's like 2 minutes gap between optional and investigation (my under 7 mins run is my fastest optional quest run).
So I counted all the numbers in both videos, Lunastra optional and investigation that is (to the best of my ability). So that's what I got. 8812 for investigation and 10917 for optional. But that's not all. It seems that not only Lunastra's health is modified, but her defense modifier is also changed (each attack does more damage).
Update : im now on no remorse no surrender. I am managing to kill teostra but when im on final phase lunastra i always get supernova’d and fails the quest. Feels bad man
Critical, weakness exploit, other affinity boosting things add %. Though they may not add to your Raw attack, youll see the power in your damage output. % is more than a few points. 100 attack plus 6 points is 106.. (jwl) (lolnub). 100 attack plus 50% is 150. Not necessarily how the games dmg mechanic works but you will notice greater dmg. Also the Palico Orchestra gadget adds over 100+ points to your Raw attack; so you notice alot of rapper Palicos when joining a hunters' quest. You can still buff with food (attack up L) and items (seeds, drinks). Its not that hard to get at or over 1500 Raw with GS solo. Thanks to the Meowster. If you can get a hunting horn team mate, Affinity/ Attack up L and all other buffs.. i cant imagine where your attack will be. Picked up GS yesterday. I need more practice. But im a heavy hitter :). Thing about MHW is you wana be balanced. When you fight tough monsters its not about having great power its about staying alive. All that attack is no good if you only hit once a minute. Or get carted. A Hunter that evades all an stays alive will be more sucessful.
Very nice run. Your skill is amazing and something I can only dream of achieving. Have you thought about blue girl's boots instead of mud fish's? No real use for you, but as a casual player I quite enjoy the health boost and minor defense bonus.

Weren't there investigations, where Nergi was weaker than optional? So it's nothing new. IIRC Phemeto posted a video about that.

How do i beat lunastra at special arena? Its hard and i already cant imagine a normal quest lunastra
you just need to deal enough damage, go for her back legs, make her fall, and then beat her wings

Is there a reason why u r aiming the back legs even though its not the weak spots?
back leg is what makes lunastra falls down compared to Teo or Kush where the fall down comes from the head
