Question - what about some sort sealant / glue / cement between the individual bricks, the wall is not rain-proof.

Not sure you understand modern building science. This build is using a WRB wrapped around the sheathing and then they throw on a rain screen membrane behind the faux stone. The rain screen allows water to drain down between the backside of the stone and the WRB. You want the gap to allow it to dry, its very important. A properly installed rainscreen is much more effective than attempting, and inevitably failing to "seal" your exterior cladding. Water will always win, so give it a place to dry. If not, you will have sheathing with long exposures to water and failure to follow.

How about for interior installs? What do you recommend to adhere to? Cement board? Plywood? Can it be glued to drywall?
