    Because of your channel I started an investment account for my nephews a few years back! I add $50 a month and bump up on the contributions during their birth month (I even reach out to other family members to contribute $25-$50 for their birthday). This account has grown to over $5k in just a few years and they still have 7 years until they are 18! Thank you for sharing with us how to create generational wealth!

    • @Justchantel
      @Justchantel ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What kind of account did you open for your nephew? Are you taxed on the profit or your nephew?

    • @djmastertrej727
      @djmastertrej727 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Justchantel There are "529 accounts" that many people will open for a child which go toward college savings - I didn't want to do that in case my nephews don't go to college. If the child is able to earn an income, there are custodial Roth IRAs - my nephews are too young for that bc they do not earn an income. I decided to open up a regular brokerage account in my name, but with all of the money in that account dedicated toward them. My investments are separated from that so I know everything that grows in it is for them. I do receive tax paperwork for the dividends only which annually are only like $25 at this point so it has no implication on my taxes. You are able to "gift" stocks without paying any capital gains tax. The child (or young adult at the time) can sell the stocks with little to no tax depending on their income or continue to invest that money - eventually paying taxes on it down the line. You could also sell the stocks yourself and then pay the taxes on it yourself (could just take the money out of the money you gift for taxes). Lots of different ways to do this where the taxes can fall on the kid or you depending on how you do it.

    What a treat that we could play "fly on the wall." Thank you for giving us this opportunity and for Sunoa and Malea to being so open to sharing this publicly! And how funny that they didn't remember the $8,000 each back in 2020! 😂 It's great that you didn't cut this out but showed how they are teenagers with certainly other pressing topics in their lives. It's great that they can have both - being teenagers and also that they can grow into responsible adults bit by bit. And it's sooo generous how you match what they invest! Being around Amon in Portugal has allowed me to get some great insight. One thing he told me was this pursuit of FIRE and financial freedom you can do it alone, but with your partner its even better, and when we did it we had our kids(our team) which makes it even better! This hit home for me. I have been someone that has always had the "I can do it myself" mentality, but in this life we really cant do anything alone, you only go as far as your team! This is a perfect example. Again, thank you for all your weekly knowledge!

    Greatly appreciated the candor (honest and non scripted) of your children.
    My kids - 16 & 14 - understand the importance of basic financial knowledge but would rather do just about anything than sit down and talk about it. It's clear from your discussion with yours that it takes patience, repetition, and engagement. Loved the back and forth with them and how you seeded nuggets of wisdom.
    Also helpful to get their perspective of what they find motivating.

    AMEN! 🙌 DROPPING GEMS 💎!!! Thank you guys this was awesome! If only MORE parents would take this level of care! “PATIENCE” is the word I came up with! Sunoa & Malia, most parents don’t have the patience to train and teach their kids to “fish”, to have them THINK thru alongside their parents about their own futures. This is a true love & care for their children… think training wheels! At the same time, many kids would just be “checked out” on a conversation like this and choose not to apply patience to sit, listen, learn eagerly and ask questions and think of options…. Who hoo! I also loved the Die with Zero reference! Makes sense! Assuming they are good stewards, Why wait until the children are 60-70? I can’t wait to see where your futures are headed! 👏 👏

    I have been following you almost 2 years ago. My younger sister learned about FIRE while in graduate school and directed me to you guys as a great source of knowledge. I really love your videos (especially this one! and recall watching the girl's video 2 years ago) and have learned a lot! So much that I opened custodial accounts for both of my kids in 2021. We've invested their cash gifts (some that was hidden under the mattress! 🤫). We haven't really saved for college, we do bit by bits but doubt it will cover college expenses in 6 years when my oldest starts college. As I try to manage better our finances and make sure we put some monthly amount for college expenses, I wonder if custodial accounts will have a heavy impact on financial aid? I fund their custodial accounts monthly, wondering if I should just save it on a 529? Thank you for sharing all the knowledge. May God and the Universe continue to bless you!

    This was great, I had my young adult children watching along with me. Thank you guys for this.

    I started an UTMA for my 7 year old when she was 5 because of you. I have encouraged my brothers to do the same for my nieces and nephews but that has been an uphill battle.

    Love this, I'm investing on behalf of my son (he's 1) the same way through fidelity with their index fund. Can't wait for him to take over and learn the ropes.
    Been following you guys for a while and you really changed the way I think about + approach money. Love the match incentive too 😁👍🏾 setting the bar high is the journey I'm on too. Taking action was what motivated me.

      I don't have my own children but their videos inspired me to start an account for my nephews. They were already 8 at the time but at least a full decade of growth is great. You're doing an amazing thing for your son by investing for him so early! Setting up the next generation!

    Yes, please do more of these types of videos. You are modeling healthy conversations/brainstorming about money and investments for kids. Really appreciate it.

    What a wonderful segment with your daughters! I'd wondered what happened to 'Our Rich Journey Junior'? I would try to encourage younger family/friends to watch them and learn! I love that your daughter knows about the power of compounding so young...I've certainly tried to instill that in our son! Again, I have followed you all for years, learned a lot and look forward to learning more! And...where's Luna?! I'm a dog-person!

    I really enjoyed this type of video. Of course the financial information was beneficial. But I also like the way you presented it. By you not looking directly at the camera it felt like we were all just part of a family discussion. I'm sending this video to my teen grandchildren. Thank you for sharing.
